Say It. I Dare You.

^ That just reminded me of another tradition. K-4 we did the pledge, sang This Land is Your Land and ended with the Johnny Appleseed Blessing.

Oh, the Lord is good to me
And so I thank the Lord for giving me the things I need
The sun, the rain, and the apple seed
The Lord is good to me
Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen!

Haha. NC does love apples.

** Johnny Appleseed was one of the first people we learned about, and they taught us the poems and blessing that went along with his story.

One more edit and I'm done. I also remember them trying to phase out the Johnny Appleseed part of our day and we threw a fit. Everyone loved going big and silly on the finish. It made us laugh. That plus, we all though a man who was into nature conservation and huge lover of animals was a pretty good guy.

I was just a little too sarcastic on a phone call, but it felt good, and he was too drunk to remember anyway. You have to be drunk to tell a dispatcher that you're trashed and trying to drive but your car won't start.

I am so not one to complain about the heat, but lawrd have mercy it's hot out! It's 10pm and 34 degrees out. I hate painting and stupidly decided on a whim to do my basement stair hallway last night. I need to finish it tonight because my cousin is coming over tomorrow to help tape for stripes.

Hopefully the rain holds off for a bit tomorrow. Supposed to be just as hot, so were going to try and hit the beach first!

And this will be me in a couple of months - we have another hotter than average summer forecast. Bummer. There's already been bushfires over near Sydney. It doesn't bode well.

Worried rant

I was talking to a person last night who has a 14 yo, who is on the lower side of 5 ft something and is close to 250 lbs. They have been taking her to the doctor and she was put on the same diet that this particular doctor has put many in my town on. The Starvation Diet. The name alone pisses me off. I understand that they want to have her tested and make sure nothing is going on with her hormonally, or with her thyroid, etc. She has been having some other problems so that's a good decision but this damn "diet"!! I have a hard time calling it that. She has a couple different plans with it and one consists of mainly greens (which I could do because I love my greens) but it's paired with some medication that tricks your body into thinking it's pregnant. It's made many irritable and they have had to nix the med. So she has her other plan which I just found out about. She puts people on a an anti seizure med. The same med my friend was so scared to go on for his headaches because it has many bad side effects. He researched it for years, and finally started to try it because it was his last resort in migraine treatment. It basically turns your taste buds/brain off carbonation, breads, etc... If the dose you are taking is too high, everything tastes bad. My friend is going through that now and he can hardly eat. Even water has a funny taste. That's not good. Back to the diet... I know this family. Portion control is 90% of the problem. I have a feeling their child would lose some extra weight this year anyway because she has joined 2 activities at school (something she has never done before) and is considering a 3rd, which is a sport. She has not been very active in the past. I'm worried she's going to drop because her mom said she's hardly eating. Weight loss is something she wants, and she's dropped 20 some lbs. I hate that her doctor and her mom are teaching her that meds are the trick as opposed to what she eats and her activity, at that age. Her mom seems to think it's a miracle because she is doing her homework and concentrating better. That could be the med (it makes my friend brain dead but he has to take a high mg) or that could be her age and more of an interest in high school. I'm rather pissed at that doc, period because she is supposed to be Miss Natural, hates med's, etc... She's full of it, and has been making a killing of her diet plans.

I'm sorry Fifi
the HCG diet is the pregnant one - my mom's DOCTOR OF 20 YEARS recommended it to her, to help her drop about 20lbs to "maybe get her diabetes under control" - it was ridiculous, and you eat 500 calories a day.
I have friends who've done it, too - it's .. well, simply not okay.

I'm sorry this child is in this situation, and having other people make these decisions will just make it harder for her as she gets older. I have a very large (>350lbs, 5'4") friend, her mom was incessantly telling her about her food choices growing up and she just got larger and larger, and then raised an obese son (who is still obese, but it's getting better now he's about 16), but she never wanted to tell him anything about food because of how she was brow-beaten as a child. It's a horrible cycle.

^ Yes!! The calorie intake on the first one is insane. You can't function on that! If she has no further physical problems that will prohibit her from dropping the lbs, I wish someone would instruct on how to eat in a healthy way and get exercise. She's serious about weight loss and I am quite sure she could do it. I've seen her mom eat 5 sausage biscuits for breakfast, in one sitting. Of course she dropped weight when she started eating 500 calories a day, and of course it didn't stay off. It won't stay off with her daughter either if it's med dependent and still consists of too few calories, bad eating habits.

You are right, it is a vicious cycle.

** And I would like to punch your mom's doctor. Recommending that to a diabetic ... OMG! Someone taking insulin or pills to regulate blood sugar can not even begin to do a plan like that.

thank you, I wanted to punch him, too. He was selling the HCG, he was a "believer" - she did it short term, dropped a little but - well, I think it's just insane and told her every chance I got! I wrote him off as a quack after that.
