Thanks for the snow pics rou! When I clicked on it said it was -2, yikes. Its the middle of the night here and I think it was forecast to go down to 19c. 37 tomorrow and I have to try and sleep, ugh.

A little bit peed off right now. I was watching the final of Dancing with the stars before coming to work and had planned on watching the rest of it on the computer during the night, as I had done the last few weeks. But no, it's not there, only last weeks episode. Now I have to try and avoid hearing who won while waiting for it to appear online at some point. Channel 7's always doing annoying crap like this.

Not important in the grand scheme of things I know, but mightily annoying all the same.

Ticked off right now.

Early this past fall, a coworker was having surgery and she asked me to donate some of my leave to her as she didn't have a lot and w/o donations, she wouldn't have gotten paid during the time she was out (I posted about it here). So I donated 32 hours to her. And a few other ppl donated also.

I always try to keep my leave balance as close as possible to my maximum number of accruable hours. I will only schedule vacation time off if I am going on an actual trip or if I am at the very top and will lose it. I had it so I had to take a day off every two weeks and was really loving that.

So when my coworker asked, I was at the top. I submitted my application and hunkered down to two months of not scheduling any vacation time (32 hrs = 4 days = 2 months of not taking off my beloved every other Fridays).

No one told me that the other ppl who had donated time were getting their leave balances hit first. My balance wasn't actually hit until three weeks ago. So the entire time I was eschewing my Fridays off and forcing myself to come in, I was actually losing 7.9 hours a pay period bc i was still at my leave ceiling and didn't know, ie., almost 32 hours.

So then it really did hit three weeks ago, taking another 32 hours out of my balance.

So I actually lost 64 hours of my vacation time trying to help this woman...who i barely even speak to. Nice I was really going thru a lot of stress these past few months and would have loved to have ejoyed those 32 hours of time off.

Blah. I had to leave work a little early last night. I ended up with a headache and nose bleed from hell. It's the weather. A shift from very dry air to a great deal of pressure. Luckily it was not doing anything but raining and I could make it home. Once again I wish I could have slept a little longer but I need another round of Sudafed.

Spider, that's absolutely awful. Is there any way your co-worker could compensate you? The very, very least she should do is take you out to a fat dinner or buy you an XMAS present! I don't blame you in the last for being enormously pissed off. I'm pissed just hearing about it!

I remember you posting about the leave Spider (I'd never heard of that sort of thing being possible). I'd be beyond frustrated, can't believe no-one told you how it was being worked out, you'd think if you were doing such a huge favour to someone that the least management/payroll/whoever could do would be to let you know what was actually happening with your leave. I'd definitely take it up with someone and see if you can get something back somehow.

My peed off-ness has gone - revisited channel 7's website and DWTS had magically appeared so am now happy I've seen it. Surprised at who won but all good.

No, nothing can be done. They don't explain stuff like this here and if someone loses out, it's tough luck. It was a payroll manager who explained to me why my leave balance is still so low (relatively speaking...bc I realize mine is higher than 95% of all emplpoyees). I thought it would have built back up to the maximum level this week, and I was looking fwd to taking Friday off (thinking i would be so high I would lose it otherwise). I was actually planning on not only taking this Friday off but cashing out a couple of days for cash to buy Christmas presents. Oh well, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that w/ my balance so (relatively) low. Thank God, I have money for gifts. But someone else might not have.

I was thinking of filing a complaint. But I don't want it to appear as tho I am angry w/ any particular person. Most ppl don't have leave balances as high as mine, so they didn't think this aspect of things needed to be explained when someone donates time, I guess.

Oh, no, CP, I don't think I would ever mention it to the woman who had the surgery. I wouldn't want her to feel bad. (hmmmmm altho, she did mention something about us "having to do lunch" when I first donated it...

I remember that thread. That was a lot more hours than I expected you to donate. that was nice of you!!!

I would def speak to HR
It is nasty, yucky, bad outside. I had to do 30mph to and from the trash dump. We must have 2 inches of water standing on the roads.

It was such a nice thing for you to do spiderlashes.
I hate when being nice sucks.

Yes, I understand, Spidey. You don't want to make the person who had surgery feel badly because you have a good heart.

If it were I who had the surgery, I would be falling all over myself to take you out. Well, I sure hope someone does something nice for you - very soon!

Happy to be done with work for the week. Making a list of things to get done but right now I'm sitting in the couch under a blanket, Finlay cuddled up, watching tv and having a cup of coffee.

He was not sure if he needed to check in, or sign something, etc. The traffic is cluster like that, but it's a rural area. Walking is not an option unless you live on the same road as the school, which the author doesn't know.

Anyway, it's because of complaining parents who have a fit when they think someone is cutting line, or because a child is walking alone, or because a parent is on a bike or motorcycle, or any nbr of things that do not concern them or the stick up their as*. So many complaints are made that the school has no option other than to enforce a strict policy.

The area was called "Walkers and Riders" when I was in school.

^ There were only about 10-15 kids in that area when I was in school though (and you sat out there alone, unmonitored, and were just fine) You rode the bus. Very few kids had parents who could pick them up when school ended. Now most refuse to put their kids on the bus.

One more thing... I feel bad for some kids. I think our schools are close to losing funding for buses and will have them cut out all together. That will be horrible for the ones who have a mother and father who both work and can not take off to come and get them. They need to bus to take them to the baby sitters or home, depending on age. The parents have no other options.

I am surprised at the number of people who pulled their kids off of buses. Yes, you hear some stories on the news, but there are some fantastic bus drivers out there. Mine made me a Christmas present. She embroidered a pillow case for me with cats on it, because my cats were waiting for me to get off the bus every day. Lol. It is one of the sweetest gifts I have ever been given. (Thank Gawd I was the last kid off the bus and this was in the 80's. Now there would be 50 complaints that only one child got a gift, but I actually bothered to talk to her). Anywho, I know some people who pulled their kids off for really dumb reasons. Stuff that was blown way out of proportion. Kids are going to have spats and your kid needs to know how to handle it. Others had very valid reasons.

The bus didn't become a scary or bad place unless some of the kids that sat in the back messed with you or if there was a substitute bus driver. Then kids went buck wild on the bus, and it was kind of scary. And riding the bus became really depressing in middle school/jr. high. By high school it wasn't so bad again.

Used to love for my parents to pick me up and drop me off, made me feel like a teacher's or principal's kid. It was something for the privileged.

That said, I'm not sure if I'd want my kid to ride the bus. It would be great if we lived in walking or cycling distance to the school. Especially when you hear the scary stories of some of the things that happen on buses.

When I was in grade 8, students would go to the back of the bus to perform sex acts or sneak and smoke (cigs and weed). The environment on that bus just made you want to never get on a bus ever again in life. Also one of the students that rode the bus sounded just like Old Dirty B*****d, and that used to freak me out. But what was worse is he acted like an ODB, and sexually harrassed everyone, including the boys. He was just a predator. This was in a different school system.

I took a course in college where the lecturer told us that when he was a kid, he was the last one off the bus. One day when he was 6, the bus driver pulled over in a secluded area and sexually abused him. Apparently this continued for sometime. (Weird story I know, but we were talking about sexual health, sexual abuse and stigma.)
