Gravy! The fire departments in a nearby county responded to 53 frozen and busted water pipe calls in 48 hours. That is crazy! It's been terrible. There have been numerous calls in my county as well. Lights in kitchens falling out and several inches of water flooding the apartment or business. Not good. That is why I turned off my well pump, main water lines, water heater lines, and killed the power to the water heaters not long after I discovered my water was not working. I searched for frozen pipes, used a hair dryer on anything that felt cold, wrapped them in hot towels, used space heaters, etc. After all that I shut it down. I was not taking chances. Several things can go wrong as a result of your well pump trying to run with no water flowing.

Yay!!! Shameless comes back on sunday. I adore that show.

It seems like the town/city water has more problems than others on springs or wells in my area. Several had a hard time with the most recent temps, but the town water pipes are always busting here.

ETA: And in case you were talking about at my house alone, because I am exhausted and can hardly read , I would have done the same to any pipes coming in my house. It does not matter if it's city, well, spring, plumbers, etc. All have been making some serious money this week, and been backed up. I got lucky. The plumber came by after one of his appointments that was nearby and two of the senior employees at the well company came by in a personal truck loaded with tools while everyone else was out in company trucks.

Lately I find myself looking at women's hair and thinking things like "she needs a better conditioner" or "she needs some hair gel" or "she really needs a good deep conditioning" etc lol. What has this site done to me?!

I wasn't able to get my allergy shots today because I'm still coughing. I usually don't get a cough unless it's bronchitis or pneumonia and I'm pretty sure this is neither but the shot lady was having none of it. The good news is that means I got grocery shopping done, ran by my parents' house and still got home early.

The Chris Christie "Bridge Scandal" might be one of the strangest things I have ever heard.

http://m.motherjones.com/politics/20...tein-testimony

I need to do some more reading on this. I'm still not clear on who was informed of what. Traffic studies have to be done. Roads and bridges have to be repaired, and emergencies happen 24-7 so that can not be avoided. Making sure emergency services are aware and can take other measures if need be is perfectly legitimate and appreciated.

People lose their isht in traffic jams. People will flood 911 when stuck in traffic for more than 15-20 minutes. People will do this when the road has been closed so a helicopter can land and airlift a severely injured person to a hospital, because they are running 5 minutes late to a lunch date which is much more important. Road closures can and will cause havoc, and if this was some type of plot that is effed up.

What is also effed up us the possibility of being charged for murder because one person, a 91 year old, had a heart attack and died during the traffic jam. It is horrible that help could not get to this person, but chances are slim to none that this person would have lived. :-/

This is all so strange, and so were the people interviewed on the news about the nightmares of being stuck in traffic. Kids were late for school. The horror.

I had to look up Franklin County. I see it's more in the Research Triangle area. I wonder who seized and burnt the records. It seems no one has a clear idea of who it was, and i would be leery of scape goats.

F**king Carpet Baggers. I do not doubt the theory. Several had a shot gun barrel shoved in their faces here. Offering pennies for land so they could mine it, clear cut it for lumber or otherwise destroy it. My great grandfather bought the land I am sitting on, after every tree had been cut. It was allowed and cultivated to flourish again after that. Just a few houses now. Nothing more. It's been well taken care of, and that was all my GGF wanted. Trees, trees, and more trees.

I worry about the numerous wealthy people who have moved here over the years. They make me uncomfortable, on a general scale. Several are nice, and several are suspicious and anonymous people waiting in the shadows. They keep pressing for new things (may I add several plans rated as a D aka piss poorly thought out and pointless) in the area that benefit no one but summer residents and take locals homes in the process. Someone will be killed before it is said and done. I feel it. For now people are speaking up in meetings.

The local paper has done a great job exposing who some are. Hehehe. I have a feeling they have received some phone calls and emails.

One more ETA on that. You know it's suspicious when you find out several people who were looking for land to build their 3rd or 4th home on were told about the plans in the next 7-10 years that would make the property useless and one local couple, in their late 40's who finally saved enough to buy a small piece of land and put a small home on it, THREE YEARS AGO were not told.

So true, Perri, so true

I need sleep, but it is not going to happen. Went to bed at 3 and woke up at 7 with my ear busting. It is even making my teeth hurt.

Cailin, thank you again for posting that. It is a topic that has been on my mind lately, in a way. I see many things that happened during the reconstruction era and gilded age happening again. I have people tell me they are coming here to help free us from ourselves. I have no idea wtf they are talking about and no one asked for their help. People don't trust these a**holes because of what happened the last time. Don't get me wrong. Again, some who came were nice and I do not live in a plantation/cotton area and the large majority of locals lived in shacks with holes in their shoes. People did have to establish schools for everyone in my area. No one was educated except for an incredibly small %. We were not sipping tea from the veranda like some portray the south as a whole. Here someone would ask if you are too fancy to call it a porch.

There were a great deal of greedy people who came here. All over the state. I've always thought the term, "America's Uncrowned Aristocracy" was fitting. Several took advantage of the disenfranchised, the one "city" in my area went up in a boom, the depression hit, and the majority went with it. They flocked to my area for recreation and business ventures. Some causes were good, like TB research and the healing air and water in the mountains here. Several came, received help, and were able to return home. Several robbed people blind.

I keep reading stories in my area for the new proposed recreational plans. That puts me edge. People claim a historic dam needs to be torn down to save species of fish, after several votes it is taken down, and 9 months later some non local b**tard is in there proposing that it be damned back up again to build a man maid kayaking area where people can do tricks. Wtf kind of sense does that make? Several rivers in these mountains are infamous for kayaking or rafting. Competitions are being held here now. There is no need to build a man made area to do tricks. Nature has already provided several.

The list goes on and on, town after town. Money being taken away from local schools to build softball complexes (that no one needs) on top of sites that are still very important to archeologists. I don't like it. *It's up to every county to foot the bill for the new proposed plans that again mainly benefit part time residents while most locals have not received a raise in years. And while the economy is isht.

No matter what part of the state you were in, during reconstruction, scape goats were used to cover the damage done by these specific groups people. I know carpetbaggers was said to be something made up by the KKK in NC. In some instances it may have been, but they were very real and they hurt many people. As I watch my area being prepped for another "recreational" boom, I want to vomit. Nothing is well thought out and I am 99% sure they will run off again after it all crumbles.

So yes, again, I do not doubt her theory. It is not like we do not know slavery and the many horrific events that coincided with it existed. I have a feeling it would have to contain much more to rush and burn, especially now. I hate all of it was lost.

I ran over to my moms wearing my new sweater I picked up at a 50% off winter merchandise sale yesterday. She fell in live with it and I had to call the store, ask if they had one in her size, and ask them to put it back for her so she can try it on. If it fits we will have matching sweaters. That makes me giggle. We have not worn anything matching since she made red corduroy capri pants, a fitted red corduroy vest and matching dark navy, brown, red, white and gold or silver plaid long sleeve shirts to go under them in 1980 or 81. It was our Christmas outfit and we wore tall boots with it. I still laugh hysterically when I come across pictures.

My mom in law and I recently bought the same skirt.. she wasn't going to until I reminder her that we live 2 1/2 hours away from each other, and the chances of us wearing them while together was pretty slim.
