We did have a well known, speedo wearing, peeping tom/perv apply one year, so there always is the truly strange. He knew that our office was well aware.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??

Parents at interviews? That's just....wrong. What are people thinking? It's not something I've heard of here, hopefully it's not going to catch on.

claudine - I sympathise, my cold's about gone, it was pretty short-lived so I hope yours is too.

cailin - my friend looked after my dog one time, he ran into a bush and tore the skin under his eye. She felt awful but I didn't blame her in the slightest, sometimes things just happen so don't feel bad/guilty.

b-wavy - I love your new Snoopy!

So what's next, taking their blankie and a pacifier? Why don't they install nap rooms so the interviewees can take a little nappypoo before the interview?

My mother would have never suggested going to an interview with me nor would she have pushed her way into an interview. She would have wished me luck and tell me that I can do it. She is from the school of, "You have to row your own boat","sink or swim","suck it up", etc. That is what I would expect from a woman who came to this country by herself at age 17 without knowing anyone, and put herself through college.

My Mom planned a trip to Fl months ago and asked me to watch her dog. a few weeks ago he needed surgery and was real sick. He's on the mend and feeling better so I picked up the dog Sunday and dropped her off at the airport. This evening I noticed his surgical incision was opened about an inch. I called the Dr and brought him to the hospital. They want to keep him overnight because the will probably have to stich the whole incision over.

I feel so horrible. All I had to do was keep the pug safe and sound and now this. I don't know how it happened and it may have happened regardless of who was watching him but I just feel terrible.

I make a point of saving all mail from AARP for my ex, and finding ways to sneak it into his possession. Really, though, it's just a matter of time before I start receiving it myself. I already get spam aimed at dating older men.

And I'd like to cite it to those few who've given me grief about my creative peculiarity: "See? Sometimes being different makes you memorable." ((Emoji of nose-thumbing here.)

I would not be surprised if a blankie and pacifier were next. I was reading comments from interviewers about what goes through their minds when parents come with their adult child or into the interview. #1. I am not dealing with a self sufficient adult. #2. I have the distinct feeling this person can not handle anything on their own, or be relied upon to complete a task without assistance. #3. This is not a mature adult that has been prepared for the future. #4. Am I supposed to ask the parent about allergies and diet restrictions? Why are they here? Will they be calling me to chat if their son/daughter gets a poor review? (Yes, they will)

On that note I also read the very small % of companies who are now catering to the parents of their employees send out duplicate copies of performance reviews or reprimands to the parents. They send them progress reports of how their 20 to 30 some year old is doing on the job. This actually violates privacy policies. Do these young adults not know that they can refuse this? You are over 18.

(I wanted to add something here... Research is showing several places of employment are closing their doors to younger employees and hiring from a pool of 40+ year olds. They are frustrated with the parental involvement, and skeptical due to numerous things said in interviews and an overwhelming amount of stuff posted online. Who can blame them? There is a... 'When I take over your company/your job in the next few years' mentality out there. Also numerous people who say they will not go down the soul sucking office road but plan to take the job for a year or 2, network and make contacts, and then leave to start their own company and take the clients with them. It also costs a company thousands (I'm talking 15k on the lower end) of dollars to keep hiring and replacing the large number of 20+ somethings that are constantly job hopping. It is breaking them. Of course many of the attitudes are unrealistic but this and the ADD job approach are proving to be very detrimental to those out there who really do just want to work and do a good job. I know they are out there!

@Starmie, this should not catch on anywhere! It needs to be stopped, asap!

(I think people are too caught up in the compete with the world job market stuff. It only applies to so many jobs. I'm not competing with anyone)

I have no idea how these parents can not see the overwhelming amount of detriment they have caused their child/adult. You have completely removed and not allowed any sense of self faith, self worth or confidence to be built. They have chopped off their legs, so to speak, and left them with nothing to stand on. Just a need to be carried, monitored, and validated by someone else (who will blow it all out of proportion).

ETA: The (not so much) kids have to take responsibility for allowing it to continue as well. For so may years it can be out of your control, but they are going to have to grow a pair at some point.
