I just read that I have a few of the habits of unhappy people. According to Business Insider, I'm supposed to be around more people more often, and "go for it— try something new!"

But what if I want a sandwich? What if I miss the dogs? What if I really don't care that my house is messy?

Lumbar microdiscectomy. I managed to herniate a disc in my lower back. Neurologist basically told me that if I want to continue doing martial arts I would need surgery.

Sorry Perri

I need to avoid Facebook. The last 3 times I have attempted to check in I have seen bad news. 3 deaths and a very dear family friend in is the hospital with serious and tricky blood clots. They can not move her to a different hospital at the moment. I wish they could. She needs to be at the best one around. It's literally been login, oh isht, log out.

Thanks, Fifi. Surgery is two weeks from tomorrow. It's a pretty quick procedure and recovery isn't supposed to be too bad. At this point the sciatic pain I'm getting from the herniation is bad enough that it's interrupting my already restless sleep. Looking forward to not being in constant pain. One of the upsides to my job is that I have the inside scoop on physicians in my area, so I know the surgeon is good. Admittedly I'm more nervous about this surgery than I was about my last two (septoplasty and tonsils). Only other surgery that had me this nervous was my thyroid- and that was only because of the potential accidental injury to a laryngeal nerve- and the end to my days in choir.

Good luck, Corrina! I'm so very glad you have the inside scoop so that you know your surgeon is good. You're in good physical condition (martial arts ) and that's a big plus also.

Lots of positives going in and all of us sending you warmest wishes for an excellent outcome.

My best advice is when you are waking up right after the surgery and they ask you if you need pain meds, say no if at all possible. They have made every person I know (myself included) throw up, and that is generally worse than the pain.

Let me know if you have specific questions

^ Are you sure it was the pain meds and not the anesthesia? Being put under makes several people sick as a dog. My mom always throws up after surgery.

Several hospitals will give you anti nausea meds with pain killers as well. Even the mild ones.

I wish people would make up their minds about coffee or no coffee before fasting blood work. One doc says yes, one says no. One says one cup will not mess with your results, another says that it slightly *might* and another says it's measurable. Annoying. I'll take my chances with one watered down cup. It's that or kill people while driving un caffeinated and starving.

How do we even remotely expect people to find cure cancer when they don't even know if plain ol' coffee will mess with your blood work or not? Go ahead and take all your meds, full of chemicals. That's fine. Just don't have coffee!

I am surprised by the number of ticks I have seen this week. I've removed 3 fro my cousins dog since Sunday. They have removed 2. Is there a nest of ticks nearby or something? I didn't see that many last summer, period.

It all depends on what doctor you ask.

I do think several still agree that one cup of black coffee is not going to void your fasting blood work, but the disagreement seems to be about those tests in particular. CBC, Hemoglobin A1C, and a variety of other tests... Fine. Some believe it might slightly alter the LP and some say the caffeine turns to sugar and messes with your fasting glucose.

Oh, I forgot the other argument. Some say it does not turn into sugar but it can possibly mess with the insulin your body produces. One camp believes this can and will change your glucose reading and another says one cup before your test will not mess with the fasting results.

In other words, they have not a clue.

I have always been told by my PCP to have nothing but water after midnight before the test. I always set my test for early morning.

Based on what I was reading, the chance of coffee messing with your natural insulin production (and test) becomes more probable if you have a meal with it. Mainly, if you have carbohydrates. That chance become higher if you are a diabetic. I guess several prefer to use caution and say drink nothing but water.

I just saw a photo of one of the newest rescues at the poodle rescue. Whoever had him had left his muzzle on, no idea how he ate, his nose is marked and swollen. My heart hurts so much for him but I'm also really glad he's safe now. Say a little prayer for his healing if you would. Or send positive energy or thoughts or whatever.
