^ Are you sure it was the pain meds and not the anesthesia? Being put under makes several people sick as a dog. My mom always throws up after surgery.

Several hospitals will give you anti nausea meds with pain killers as well. Even the mild ones..

Good luck, Corrina! I'm so very glad you have the inside scoop so that you know your surgeon is good. You're in good physical condition (martial arts ) and that's a big plus also.

Lots of positives going in and all of us sending you warmest wishes for an excellent outcome.

And I'm sure I'll barely have time to think about it between now and then- between the leave of absence paperwork and the appointments for pre-surgical testing and medical clearance, the next two week are sure to be a blur.

Lumbar microdiscectomy. I managed to herniate a disc in my lower back. Neurologist basically told me that if I want to continue doing martial arts I would need surgery.

My best advice is when you are waking up right after the surgery and they ask you if you need pain meds, say no if at all possible. They have made every person I know (myself included) throw up, and that is generally worse than the pain.

Let me know if you have specific questions

I didn't seem to have any issues with the post-op morphine. The prescription stuff that I was given to use at home was a whole different story. First surgery was Percocet, which did nothing for the pain, but gave me one of the worst episodes of heartburn I've ever had. After the septoplasty I got Vicodin, which didn't seem to do anything at all. After my tonsils, I got liquid Tylenol with codeine. That stuff was good. I laughed when I saw how much the surgeon prescribed for me, especially when he said to just call the office if it wasn't enough. But by the end of the first week, I was starting to think I would be calling for a refill. I was practically swigging it. Tonsil surgery is seriously every bit as painful as an adult as they say it is.

Dear OldNavy.com,

Your are making your clothes look worse by pairing your dresses with big ugly, clunky shoes. Stop that. It is upsetting me.

Looking at some of the questions I get from the billing office, I understand why they are located almost 10 miles away from the hospital. I'm not a violent person, but I want to slap these people silly sometimes.

I wish people would make up their minds about coffee or no coffee before fasting blood work. One doc says yes, one says no. One says one cup will not mess with your results, another says that it slightly *might* and another says it's measurable. Annoying. I'll take my chances with one watered down cup. It's that or kill people while driving un caffeinated and starving.

I like them all

No matter how hard I think about it, I can not recall a time in my childhood where a boy was being bossy and he was called a leader. I can't remember anyone being called a leader unless we had an assigned leader of whatever group or team, and that was rare. A general proclamation of leadership skills while walking in the head of the lunch line.... NO. I also remember both boys and girls being called bossy when they were being bossy. Not showing great potential but showing their a**. Shut up! You can't say that, only I can. You have to stand here, stupid. Arrange my crayons by color! We can only play what I want to play! You'll do it my way or I won't invite you to my party!

I do recall a girl 5 years older than me holding me captive on the play ground, trying to force me to break up with my boyfriend. I was 5, she was 10. She grabbed me, put me in her lap on the swing, got a big smile and acted like she was being nice and cuddly. She was telling me that she would not let me go, I would miss my bus and get in trouble, she would make my life hell and no one would believe me if I told the truth. I told her she was full of isht, mean, stupid, kind of funny and called her bluff until my bus came and she let me go. I also swung my legs and kicked her in the shins with my hard bottom white dressy shoes the whole time. Was she showing potential for excellent negotiation skills? Same mmmmmmm... that took up a collection for my best friend a few years later because she wore the same blue jeans a few times a week, and being poor was too depressing to look at. What a talent she had for fundraising. She got jumped that day. Not the first 7th or 8th grader we took down on the play ground. We did the same to the guy who stole our lunch money. Future investment banker in the making? No. Neither had any potential what so ever.

That's not saying kids do not get jealous when someone shows talent, and react negatively. They can and they do, boys and girls.

I want to watch the documentary Anita. I was looking at a few movie reviews earlier and came across one on Ebert's site. I don't technically think you can have spoilers on a documentary about something you remember so I had no worries there. It did ask some rather good questions, though.

"I thought about Twitter while watching "Anita," Freida Lee Mock's documentary about Anita Hill. Twitter didn't exist in 1991 when Hill gave her testimony before the Senate, but I couldn't help but wonder how things would have played out if it had. The court of public opinion has always been presided over by a hanging judge, but 23 years ago there was at least time for a trial. Social media allows you to be executed minutes after you've been accused.

Back in 1991, all we had was CNN, the network news and the papers. The gauntlet that the infamous ran was a real one of photographers and reporters. Nowadays, in addition to that, there's a virtual gauntlet that's far more devastating to navigate. Would Hill, who became a high-profile gender and workplace rights law advocate in addition to continuing her teaching career, have been able to do so in today's binary universe? And would Thomas still be on the Supreme Court? Today's media explosions can destroy both sides."

Very true. Blood is screamed for and everything forgotten as soon as something new comes along. I completely agree with the first comment...

"Fascinating. It's always remarkable to me to see how trial by social media has been given so much credence. In the olden days, there were certainly opinions thrown around about major cases and allegations - Clinton, OJ Simpson, etc. - but now, with Facebook, blogging, and Twitter so prevalent in our lives, opinion becomes fact. Fact-checking has exited the building, and in its place are the mindless lynch mobs and witch hunts of yore. The hivemind exists, and it frightens me."
