Welp, the bad guy died wearing plaid pants, a satin shirt, and a fake fur coat. Worst of all were his white socks with dress shoes.

I want to cry. I'm so sad and lonely. I've alienated myself from people who care but can't get back...

Used to be a place where you could read different perspectives, get a little fired up, and maybe learn something. Each one, teach one, and all that. I'm just saying! #reminiscing

I like the dialogue, not the nastiness. For some reason, there are people who cannot discuss things in a civil manner. It makes my volunteer job quite hard.
I get it! I just miss the clash of opinions. Love a good debate.

And maybe I didn't grow intellectually with others, to be totally fair...could have just caught up! Now let me stop before I get all caught up in my feelings.

A good healthydebate helps one to learn and grow. Being respectful of the other side, and articulating your points in a thoughtful manner, goes a long way in getting your voice heard. Name calling, mocking, stereotyping and minimizing another person's feelings or thoughts only serves to cause anger and hostility. We can't let that stand here.

We want to see timely topics discussed here again. The mods only ask that everyone keep within the parameters that are in place.

Thanks all

And on a more pacific note.......

Ah, Anne and Captain Wentworth! How I rely on your charm. And the pompous stupidity of Mr. Elliot never fails to delight.

On a side note, the floors in that era could not possibly have been so clean. What about body odor? Did people then simply smell worse? I suppose I could Google some kind of "body odor in the Regency era" search.

Musings.......

Funny how they only come back when there's conflict.

^^^^hello, my dearest!!! i've *missed* you!!!

*****

this weekend wasn't as bad as i thought it would be, though it certainly could have been better.

my sister and i got to spend Saturday shopping in downtown Toronto and we went to one of our favourite restaurants for dim sum for lunch! i got a fabulous ruffed top printed with tangerines!

we got though Sunday - the speeches were nice, though my poor cousin Dermot was sooooo nervous and his hands were shaking the whole time so he could barely read his speech.

my stepsister cried so much - i wish my mother didn't think they were crocodile tears. mother doesn't understand what she's going through at all.

my sister and i hadn't seen her, our brother-in-law, or our niece and nephew for almost 10 years. they are all grown up, now, my niece is 32!

my stepfather would have greatly enjoyed being the centre of attention - again...

*sigh*

I am glad it was not as bad as you thought, Rou. It is good that you got to spend time with family and catch up with some but it does suck when a funeral is what brings you together.

Gaaaaaaahhhhhwwwwd. I am so tired and ready to get this shift over with. Sleep did not go well today and Tonight has been 10 times worse than the entire 4th of July weekend. Very strange shift where we get several bad and rare calls.

Where is TNB? I am starting to worry. She needs to roll in and post some incredibly strange story.

Okay, lets cut through the crap. Those saying students in surrounding colleges and tourists are not given enough information on the danger of area waterfalls are full of it. There are large warning signs posted at all the waterfalls people commonly drown at, and they are all kept visible at all times. Stories run on the news, every single year, reminding people of waterfall dangers. Numerous hiking/tourism guides give the same information. They detail places where you should not go, lines you should not cross, areas you should not attempt to climb to and places where you are not allowed to stand. They make the public aware that some falls are part of the release path for dams and that large amounts of water will rush thru at different times. Slick rocks are common near the path of all falls. This information is out there. The problem is that someone chooses to ignore it and test their luck, every year. Sometimes multiple times a year. I am sure some do not fully grasp the magnitude of release waters roaring down mountain waterways, the large drop to a pool of water below them or the depth of that water. Some of the pools have swallowed mammoth trees and never spit them back up again. They are hundreds of feet deep. BUT that is not for lack of people trying to tell them. That is the ignorance of youth AND TOURISTS. Tourist are pretty ignorant. *They drag small children past the set boundaries and onto ledges.

It is sad. Rescue workers spend days looking for people when it happens. Depending on the particular falls (some counties have well over 100, and plenty of info on them), they know there is no hope but they still won't give up.
