Do we *really* need a sponsored forum from a hair straightening company? It would seem to go against being "naturally curly."

I just went to see what you were talking about (all i ever click is the "new posts" link...)

Wow. I'm with you... that's kind of ridiculous, IMO. "improves the condition of the hair" hmm? Kinda find that hard to believe, but maybe that's just me...

Yeah, and am I really supposed to believe that adding a protein layer on hair will make it straight for three months? That isn't how protein works. People use protein treatments to get their curl back! There has to be something else in the formula to do that.

Ugh! You are driving me nuts! I feel so guilty for feeling this way, because you treat me like a Queen otherwise, but... man, I feel like your child & not your equal. I eat when you want me to, I shower when you want me to, I can't fold a towel, make a bed, cook an egg as good as you do. It makes me wonder what you see in me? Because I feel useless. Good for nothing. I am lonely, away from my friends and (crazy) family, and I have no one but you. And now I feel distant from you because I feel like you are constantly critical of me. Can't you just be grateful that someone who loves you is doing something nice for you? And not focus on how it gets done?

I'm sorry I'm depressed. That I'm not happy. That I get lost in books/magazines/the internet. That all I want to do is sleep. That I have no energy. That I don't care if I eat or have clean clothes. You're not helping me feel any better.

But, I love you so much. And I know you love me so much. So we are going to figure out a way to make this work. We didn't follow each other for thousands of miles for no reason.

You are not responsible for my happiness, as I am not for yours. But we are responsible to respect and support each other. Let's make a stronger effort to do that. No. Let's just do that.

You make me laugh like no else on this planet. And I am constantly in awe of your innate talents for music & culinary arts. I have so much to learn from you. And I'm sure there are things I can share with you.

I love dreaming about Hawaiian vacations & The Flour Garden & RV'ing around the US & learning Italian & all the cool stuff we're going to do together.

I love eating yummy food with you & trying delicious new wines & taking trips & going on walks & taking photos & shopping & snuggling & dancing & watching movies & going to the beach with you. Let's do more of that stuff

My promise, to you, is I will get out of my funk. Because I love you. And I want to feel happy. Always.

I really hate grocery shopping in the winter. Well, not so much the shopping but the hauling in of the groceries. Brr!

Well, whatever the curl-relaxation mechanism, I have never been so happy with my hair in my entire almost 44 years. Never. It has been absolutely life-changing for me. I don't use that particular brand and have no interest in changing brands. BKT is not necessarily about "straightening." My hair is not straight by any stretch. The curl pattern has been relaxed to a more user-friendly level. It's temporary. I have experienced no appreciable damage.

I understand your point, but isn't the mission of this website to help those of us with curly hair find alternative methods of dealing with our hair and embracing it? Is any of us truly "natural" with our hair coloring, blowdrying/diffusing, gels, mousses, shampoos, conditioners, etc. I am now embracing my curly hair in a way that I would have N.E.V.E.R. been able to do with it in its completely natural state. I still use what I have learned here to maintain the remaining curl pattern.

I think it's really really cool that you found a solution that works for you, and allows you to appreciate your hair more. I do think that's the basis for this site, as well. And I have absolutely no qualms about there being "straightening" boards or even ones about things like BKT and what have you. I just don't know that having a SPONSORED board sends out the same message. If members want to talk about it then that's one thing, but having a company come on here and do it just seems different to me.

Yes, anything that purports to improve the condition of hair is utter BS. That's physiologically impossible--BKT being no exception. Unfortunately, it's using the same tactic that Pantene and many other "repairing" conditioners use--silicone. Mine contains cyclopentasiloxane.

Yeah, I just don't like the fact that it is a sponsored board. We do have a straightening/relaxing board for free, and it seems to be an active board. I just feel uncomfortable with a paid provider, showing an after pic of type 1 hair, here at nc. It just sits oddly.

I can see it being used in the same manner as a mild tex-lax, but that after pic is showing type 1 hair, which does bug me.

Oh, I didn't see a pic, but I know that they always advertise BKTs using the hair immediately following the treatment and flat ironing, which is completely misleading because I could flat iron my hair with some silicone without the BKT, and it would look the same.

My hair in my sig and my avatar are BKT'd and then diffused upside down with a bowl diffuser and KCCC. My natural curl pattern is a super-tight, frizz-prone 4a/3c. It is now a 2b with some 3a here and there.

Your resulting curl pattern is dependent upon how tight the curl pattern is when you apply the BKT. The tighter the curl, the less dramatic the relaxation result. My first BKT application showed almost no relaxation--so I did it again 2 weeks later and it took the curl down another level or 2. After another 4 weeks, I did it again, and the curl pattern went down to about a 2a...but it progressively comes back.

Yes, it is.

I do take issues with BKTs and such claiming that keratin is what is making the hair straight. I just wish they were more up-front about the ingredients list. I don't have issues with using chemical processes, since I do color.

But, seeing it as a paid forum just doesn't sit right.

It is rather odd on a forum that's supposed to promote curly love.
