I am lonely.
It's funny how I was reading "Lion Among Men" earlier, and there is this one passage where Brr (the Cowardly Lion) thinks about the fact that before actually talking to a human being that he was never lonely because he didn't know what it was like to actually have company. I can relate to this, I never really missed anyone because I never really found anyone I could stand for extended periods of time...... sigh.

I think it would be fun to hang around with kayb. We could get sick on weird cookies and gum.

I saw a girlfriend last night that I haven't seen in months. I fear she's crossed the line from borderline alcoholic to full-blown alcoholic. I don't want to be a Judgey McJudgerson, though.

Oh joy!
Doing some research and I find the military housing we might have to move into is built on an old Navy hazardous waste site that was never properly cleaned before housing was built.

I've decided that I'll never get down to my original weight, and I'm OK with that--After all, 8 pounds 2 oz. is just not realistic.

You talk "at" me too much. And you're bossy. Very generous, but bossy.

That coupled with also reading about multiple break-ins don't make me thrilled. I'll be living there alone for months on end so it's not a good feeling to have.
I guess we'll see how it goes! Thanks for the input.

He is quite the ferocious little pooch! I suppose between him and our shotgun I'll have at least half a chance against a burglar

*surrounding
Where did you read about the break-ins? I'm going to keep an eye on that situation for you. Do you *have* to live in that housing? I totally understand. I am the world's biggest chicken-isht when it comes to living alone. Those units are very close together...that surprises me somewhat. One thing I do know about the majority of the break-ins that occur here or anywhere is that the thieves are usually opportunistic and are looking for open/unlocked doors and windows. I keep my place like Fort Knox even when I'm not here alone.

I came across a message board for some CG higher-up and he asked CG members to weigh in on their experiences with CG housing and any issues they experienced, quality of life, etc. Several people responded that had lived in the Alameda housing and break-ins were mentioned several times in the responses I read. Since it's not a gated military housing installation anyone can ride through and solicitors were also an issue mentioned. I don't care about that because I'll put a sign on my door and just won't answer if I don't know who it is.
I definitely keep myself on lockdown when I'm alone. I know no matter where we live things like breakins can be an issue, it just made me uneasy to read it. Yes ma'am, those units are VERY close together which will just perpetuate the whole high-school drama factor living in military housing always seems to bring which is a whole other issue. I'm very much going to miss living in a single family home situation and our privacy. The few rental searches I've done don't turn up many options for living off base, not to mention trying to find rental home info. resources is difficult.
As far as *having* to live there, DH is meeting with a housing officer tomorrow (he's in Alameda now checking things out!) and find out the details on that. Technically they can make us live there and if we want to live off base we have to get a waiver to do so.
Yikes, sorry to be so long winded y'all.. Just seems this is the center of my everything lately because things are so unknown right now.

You don't need to apologize...this is the Say It thread, after all, and it doesn't matter anyway. Moving across the country is a big deal, spring.
We had CG friends who lived there for a few years, but they never mentioned any problems with break-ins, unexplained health problems, or drama, but we weren't that close with them to know all their intimate details. If you move to my neighborhood, there wouldn't be any drama because no one would ever talk to you! Over 8 years here, and 95% of our neighbors have never spoken one word to us.
The rental mkt is pretty tight, so I'm not surprised. I'm sure you've already looked at all the obvious rental sites like Craigslist, Harbor Bay Realty, OMM, Gallagher and Lindsey, and WeRent.com. There really isn't much else.

so i'm at the Home Show today to see if there's anything interesting, but the only place that had anything remotely DIY was Home Depot!
no Home Hardware, Rona, Lowe's or even the local fab hardware/lumber resource - Copp's Buildall!
*sheesh*

RE: the bolded, I'm not that opposed to such a thing! It's nice to know your neighbors, but sometimes it can be a curse instead of a blessing. I've never met our neighbors here, but we live in the middle of almost an acre and the situation rarely presents itself because you don't run into them at all.
I've checked a few of those sites, but not all so thanks for mentioning them! I had high hopes for Craig's List since it's how we found our current house, but it's more apartment complexes than anything.
Housing is my main worry and once I can get it figured out I'm looking forward to the move now. DH is out riding around Alameda today and is taking lots of pictures and video for me. I got super excited at the big gorgeous Trader Joe's. It's the little things that make me happy.

I'm just tickled silly by the outside chance that your husband may have driven by me in my house today. Note to self: Get a life.
I can almost reach out and touch my neighbors; they're that close. It's really not a big deal that they don't talk to us, but it's kind of disturbing because I know for sure that some of it is racially motivated.

I know what you mean, I'd feel the same way and I *know* I need to get a life.
If that's the case with your neighbors all the better to never speak. I think I'd make a fantastic neighbor for someone. I keep to myself, but am friendly and always have a cup of sugar to lend.

I'd take you as a neighbor anytime, springy. One of my current neighbors is nicknamed "Rat"---- and he's a human being (I suppose).
