Default Does anyone here repeat themselves a lot?

Why do you think that is? Are you just forgetful? Or do you just get "caught up" in a story and accidentally retell it? Or...?

I do. I don't know when or why I developed the habit, but for as long as I can remember I do it. My boyfriend points it out all the time, I think I do it if I feel anxious in the silence or even if it's just a moment that pops in to mind. I know it can annoy others, so I try my best to be mindful.

I have to repeat myself all the time at work. Not because I am forgetful, but because it is a technique I have been trained to use. Repetitive Persistence. Using this technique fairly regularly for 10 years had led to me repeating things off the job.

(ETA: Not only that but I have to ask people to repeat numerous things they say so I catch myself saying... Say that again? Or what? when I perfectly understood what the person said. It's annoying.)

Numerous times when I post here I am working, will put my phone down and pick it back up when I can, rinse and repeat. By the time I hit send I have said the same thing 3 times and nothing makes sense. I've jumped the train of thought too many times.

I do that. Maybe it's just the way my mind works. I dunno! It's a really good question.

ETA: Dedachan, I don't know if you meant to be funny, but your response struck me as humorously repetititive.

I'm sure I probably do it. Sometimes I just forget who I've told something to - was it this colleague or another one, my SO or my kids, my parents or my sister, this friend or that one. I usually try to stop myself and check with whoever I'm talking to before I launch into telling a tale.

This for me, too.

I work with a woman who repeats herself non stop. Drives me insane. It goes like this: traffic was bad this morning. I got in my car to come to work and man, traffic was bad. It was fine until I got to x street then traffic got bad. I thought I might be late this morning. I left on time but traffic was so bad. I thought it was going to be okay but when I got to x street it all changed and traffic was stop and go.

See I'm not THIS bad. Lol. I'll remember what I said two seconds ago, but if its a story I'm unsure I've told you I'll check with you before I dive into the story. Lol

I do repeat stories. I have a great memory but I dob forget who no last told the story to.

I hate when people ask me the same questions especially in the same conversation. I also have a boss who tells me the same stories over and over. I think he forgets he has told me them.

My mil is like that. There's no such thing as a comfortable silence in her world so she talks a lot. If it's the same thing over and over, well so be it. Drives me mad but she's on the other side of the world so it's bearable!

I do on here bc I never know who knows the back story/situation and who doesn't. Some ppl have been on here for yrs and have read lots of my posts. Others haven't. It's kind of a pet peeve of mine when someone posts about something w/o any context, and IDK the context. Like wth are you talking about? How would we know who "he" is or what's wrong w/ your sister or what the issue is at your job, etc.?

But yes, sometimes IRL if I repeat myself for emphasis. Like if I say some guy is hot or I love those shoes, etc. It denotes the superlative form! LOL

I do on the rare occasion, if it's an important story that relates to my life and I've lost track of who I told it to. Otherwise not really.

I work with a lady who says the same things over and over and over again. It's like, really? You just said that an hour ago. And the day before, and the week before, and the day before that. And it's not even anything important.

Oh torture! I had a friend at work like that. She would tell me the same stories and situations again and again and again. And then I'd turn around and hear hertelling someone else. And the stuff was so trivial...little factoids about her childhood and random stuff she and her bf discussed. GTHOOH w/ that.

Sometimes I do, but it is usually because I forgot I told someone something already. I don't do it often though.

My dad does it way too often and most family gatherings consist of listening to the same old stories we've heard a thousand times. I think he does it for attention.
