For those who juice a lot or have cut calories or similar

Like Tree52Likes

do you have any tips about how to trick your body into feeling full until you adjust to the new/lower calorie style of eating? How do you keep from feeling hungry or having cravings? Or is there no way around tyhat?

The only diet i've ever done is Atkins/low carb and that way of eating naturally curbs your appetite and all but eliminates sugar cravings. (But I don't really want too low carb now...and I want to drop a size in a shortish period of time and keep it off.)

use a juicer that keeps the pulp along with the juice. More fiber = feeling fuller longer.

You feel full with Juice, it's just a different type of full. Smoothies make you feel even fuller. Like the low carb, you adjust have a day or two

Roasted chickpeas and cauliflower (1/2 cup each) tossed with 1 tblsp olive oil and spices (whatever you like - I use garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, cilantro, salt and pepper) bake at 425 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes (I like it crispy). Top with shredded cabbage (buy it in a bag), chopped raw kale, mango and avocado and a bit of chopped fresh jalapeno if you like it spicy. Delicious and very filling. Tons of fiber and nutrients.
HG's:
Gel: BRHG mixed with Aura Naturalle Gel or B&A Gel
LI: GVP Conditioning Balm or Giovanni Smooth as Silk,
Organic Virgin Coconut Oil (as a DC, before and after dying grays, and like a serum on dry hair)

Method: Air dry 20 minutes, then blow dry for volume.

2b/c mix waves/curls - coarse, frizz prone, med. thick, porous, at-home color for gray, protein sensitive but I still need it sometimes, glycerin-sensitive (I think) in high humidity, mod-CG routine.
I think working a cube makes me gain weight. when I'm at home, I don't eat at noon and I def don't eat a full meal like I would if I was at work. so i have to keep that in mind. I let my body tell me when it's full.

1) That means drinking water (so the body doesn't get confused) and

2) eating with my stomach and not with my eyes. by that I mean, am I still hungry or is there more food on the plate so I think I should eat it/finish it. I guess I would also call this portion control, but also have to do with timing.

I eat around noon because that is when the cafeteria is open and I'm meeting free. Even if I'm not that hungry, I eat. That means that I am training myself to eat when my stomach isn't sending hunger signals and that's a bad habit to get into.

Thinking of food like this made it easier to adjust to juicing. Plus juice is AMAZING to me. Try kale and pineapple together. YUM!
Yes, I'm a volumetric eater so I tend to eat large amounts, but they're so low in calorie density that there is no adjusting. I've been cooking and eating this way for years. Basically it means I eat vegetables in just about everything. Think "sneaky chef." I could cut and paste the biggest document ever for you if you want.

Fiber and veggies/greens. I have some kidney issues so can't eat a lot of protein, but I try to get in 7-10 servings of veggies/greens a day and usually a serving of beans/lentils. You can buy bagged mixed baby greens (spinach, kale, chard) now--Trader Joe's or Costco--and either cook them or have them in a salad. Throw in some walnuts or sunflower seeds, craisins, blue cheese, raspberries or pear/apple slices...yum. Just use a tablespoon each of the extras and it's not too calorically high. And lots of greens! Now I really want a salad.

ETA: Oh, and those bagged greens are prewashed, too, so you can throw the whole bag in the freezer to cook later. I hate going to Costco, so last time I sent hubby and had him buy four huge bags of greens and froze three of them. They blend up in smoothies really well, too, but I have to put berries in with them because I do not drink green, lol.

Usually when I juice or make smoothies of fruit the are HUGE-or at least to me. My juices are usually anywhere between 6-8 cups. This morning I had oranges I squeezed with fresh blueberries blended together. It made about 7 cups. I started drinking around 7:50am and between classes and whatnot finished by 10:30. At 12:00pm I was ready for lunch. So I would suggest making huge juices if you aren't already.

The problem I see with juices is they have lots of simple sugars and very little fiber (not a good idea for a diet).

Better eat the whole fruit or veggie so you eat the fiber not just the sugars, and will fill you up more.

Ugh I got so hungry!
I guess my approach has been similar to volumetrics method, just by circumstance. I made the decision to follow a plant-based (aka vegan) diet. My decision was not based on weight loss, but on the ethical aspect. I consider the environmental/health benefits to be an added bonus. So I'm still eating a large quantity of food, but what I'm eating is much healthier. I know that vegan is not automatically healthier (foods such as Oreos and pasta with marinara sauce are vegan-friendly), but I decided if I wS going to do this, I wanted to experiment and really try all of these new foods and recipes that were previously off my radar. I'm still not at 100%, but I can see and feel the difference when I'm strict about it.

To me, juice is empty calories, it doesn't fill me up when I can eat a piece of fruit with some peanut butter and feel fuller much longer.

Trick for me is to eat smaller meals, but have small snacks in between so there's always something in my belly. It's a struggle at first, but you'll eventually get used to it. Sounds strange, but when I eat more veggies, I don't crave anything and I feel much more satisfied. Green smoothies are nice, but will make you pee like crazy.

ETA: I read once that cravings are a signal your body sends out to get some type of nutrient. If you don't get that nutrient, you still crave. Don't know how true that is, but it may be since veggies seem to take away my hunger.

I sometimes do veggie juices and they don't fill me up at all even though it does suppress my appetite for about 20 minutes after having one. They have no fiber but you get more nutrients which is in the juice when it's juice only, ill mix some of the fiber in to get the fiber.

I was just going to say.. don't buy ready-made veggie juices. Put veggies in your blender so you get all the good stuff, not in a juicer.

This morning I made a smoothie w/ 3 fistfuls of baby spinach leaves, mango, blueberries and some frozen pineapple chunks. (And a splash of liquid suclalose...sorry, i'm human!) It was great. But I was hungry again an hour later.

So far, I had the smoothie (which was HUGE), an oatmeal protein bar, a small iced coffee w/ heavy cream and 8 large roasted brussels sprouts. It's noon.

Heavy cream is a real problem for me.

Lunch is going to be a bunch more brussels sprouts (they're really good) and an iced green/black tea. I really want a soft pretzel! But trying to be strong.

How am I doing so far? Tell me how to resist getting the pretzel!

You're not hungry. you just think you because you are watching what you eat. I don't see any water listed above. I say drink some water and distract yourself. If you are still hungry, enjoy a piece of fruit.

for the next meal, you may also want to add more brussel sprouts/veggies to help yourself adjust

No pretzel!!!

Need a distraction? I just send you a PM. go forth and read my craziness, LOL

What about adding a scoop of protein powder to your smoothie/juice?

I do frozen spinach, frozen berries, yogurt, water, berry protein powder & a few ice cubes. Fills me up like a meal.

The cream (or any fat) is not really an issue unless you overdo it. You need fat, and it will help you feel full. Add some kind of protein to your smoothies--I use hemp protein (more fiber), but whatever you have is good. I'm not a big fan of protein bars as opposed to "real food" protein. One of my favorite meals is 2-3 cups of steamed greens mixed with a little wild rice (maybe half a cup), some lentils or ground turkey, avocado, tomatoes, and a bit of cheese on top. Plus salsa if I have it. The protein will also help you feel fuller.

Quartered brussels sprouts with a little blue cheese are really good.
