Would you spend more money on the wedding or the honey moon? Theme weddings?

So if you were going to get married, would you rather have a really elaborate, expensive wedding and no honeymoon, or a very simple wedding/no wedding and a super honeymoon? My mom was recently in a wedding, and the bride spent tons of money on the ceremony, with no honeymoon. We both gave her the side eye. lol

Idk if I'll get married, we have to wait and see what happens later in life. I love the idea of organizing weddings and color schemes, some types of themes, etc. But now I'm thinking, I'd rather have a very small ceremony with just immediate family and friends, or just elope, and then blow tons of money on traveling for the honeymoon. We could do and see so much.

Or both, if our finances allow it. I do want a really good cake.

Definitely the honeymoon!

The nicest weddings I've been to have been smaller, simpler affairs. Would absolutely love to go back to Bora Bora.
I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.

Freaken ridiculous!! Absolutely nothing memorable about the wedding, was very canned, like she had chosen one out of a book.

They are now renting an apartment. That could have been a down payment on a house!!!!!

I'm getting married next year and we're having a smallish and simple wedding, and then going down to FL and staying with family plus a couple days at a hotel on the beach. Simple all around for us! I always thought I wanted a huge fancy wedding, but that's just not me anymore. It's not about the "things", it's about the love. If we could be ok in our hearts to not have family and friends at our wedding, we would've eloped already. Part of me still wants to.. but I just can't.

Honeymoon. Maybe elope for the wedding. I would not want a big ceremony.

Actually $30 thousand is that rare apparently.
Average wedding bill hits $30,000 - Mar. 28, 2014

My parents couldnt afford much of a wedding because they were poor.

For the sake of costs and sanity, and because I value traveling and adventures more than ceremony, I'd want small. But still want it to be really unique and cutesy. Not really plain and traditional. I'd aim to pay no more than $5,000 if that's possible.

But another idea I had was to just rent out a floor/room of a tea parlor (or something equally as cute) and have it decorated in a fun, alice in wonderland, fancyfull color schemed kind of way. Have delicious, beautiful food, tea of course, tiered displays or gorgeous little cakes, and a big one, etc.

Or just rent it out and deal with whatever decorations and food they have. lol

I have some other ideas, but I love that one.

Or if my cooking/artistic skills have improved drastically by then, and my husband/wife to be is also very skilled in that way and very artistic, we could just fix up our own place in the decorations I want and cook some things and order other things. That would be cute actually.

What themes or ideas do you guys like?

Oh, I guess basically what I'm saying is I'd want a reception, but not an actual ceremony. I'm not religious and refuse to get married in a church, and I think anything else may cost more money. I could live without a ceremony. We'd go to get eloped, be dressed to Impress, and get our picture taken. Then go eat (always lol) at the reception part.

If I get married, I want a city hall wedding, a party and then a banging honeymoon. I hate the assigned seating, dumb traditions and bland banquet food

We're doing a casual cocktail style reception, loosely 1920's styled at a lovely old racetrack lounge from the same era with a jazz band. People are only encouraged to support the theme in easy, classy ways like fascinator headpieces and suspenders for the guys.

Our ceremony is going to be just outside the location in a cute little park and take all of twenty minutes, we're not religious and we're also two girls so the whole gendered aisle and oldschool traditions would come off a little awkward. We would be fighting over brides maids!

All in all we just want to have a great party with our close friends, and have an awesome night for everyone to remember. I think we priced it out at a $3000, which leaves plenty for an awesome honeymoon.

I also remember when I was a kid (and even now) dreading these multiple hour long ceremonies, a huge gap between the wedding and reception, and being seated in some stuffy arrangement where I barely got to talk to the bride for longer than thirty seconds and poked at cold hall food. All of that AND expensive? Noooo thanks.

I basically eloped the first time around and had an awesome, expensive honeymoon.

Not sure if I will ever want to do it again...but if I do, I guess something a little more...conventional would probably be in order.

Boyfriend wants the whole traditional church ceremony and big fancy reception.

The reception idea sounds OK to me...it's just the first part that i'm having some trouble with.

We had a themed wedding (Disney's Beauty and the Beast), but it was very inexpensive and simple. We incorporated other Disney movies too and had fun with it. We made the invitations ourselves, had the decorations hand made (relatively cheap through this website we came across), and got the rest of the decorations (that weren't included with the rental of the hall) at craft stores.

Then we saved up and went to Ireland the following year for seven days. Since I was in college and didn't have a full time job, we were on a budget. We did manage to do both though. I definitely would opt for a better honeymoon and a simpler wedding. I love to travel and the memories of seeing Ireland with my husband are some of my best memories.
