Warning, if you are pc, this will be offensive. I find the correlations interesting and generally true but I haven't looked at all of it that closely yet. I see that certain countries have a couple of groups as opposed to one (for example England can be in Protestant/Catholic (not sure which one is dominant there) Europe or English Speaking) so a little less stereotyping/boxing. What do you think?

Inglehart-Welzel Culture Map - Business Insider
I do not find this offensive in the slightest. It just maps out the most common religious beliefs and also shows freedom of expression/self expression in those areas. I am not surprised we rank highly in expression, or that it is just under Sweden. We are supposed to.

Now saying secular always equals rational is debatable. Lol. There is more than enough proof to show that everyone loses their minds from time to time.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??

I find the sets a lazy way of grouping countries as it's not by language or religion.

It's an arbitrary criteria by authors who couldn't be bothered to group countries properly.

For example the African countries group includes countries like Ghana who are predominately Christian and countries like Nigeria that are a mix. So dumping them in an African set doesn't show their culture differences. People in the countries don't speak the same language, and regional languages sound different from each other as they have different roots.

Likewise dumping countries in a set called "South America" doesn't tell you their religion or language.

In regards to the UK(England, Wales, Scotland) and Ireland though both are English speaking countries one is Protestant and the other is Catholic. They are also both in Europe. The UK deliberately got it's royal family over the centuries from the Netherlands and Germany to stay Protestant.

I should have added to my post I'm currently doing some economics/business courses and have found this lazy grouping in a few articles when they talk about differences in countries.

I even put in a complaint about one of the assignment questions.

Seems about right to me...not in terms of the "grouping labels" but in terms of where countries are placed along the axes. No surprises to me. Why would this offensive...to anyone, PC or otherwise? (Maybe I don't see it bc I'm not esp PC?)

I don't know much about Japanese culture but I'm surprised it was pretty left on self expression. My Taiwanese friend definitely does not agree with the left placement either of Taiwan.

Nope. No Nanny State worries here

Even if this mapped out areas where the most overtly offensive sayings on the planet were uttered, I would not be offended. There is a difference in the mapping and the doing.

I really do not see why anyone would be offended. Disagree with it, sure, but thats not the same as being offended. Something like this is fairly general and could never account for all members of a population/sub cultures with in a culture.

ETA: Though disagreeing and being offended have become interchangeable since the interwebz. A difference in opinion can now easily equal shattered beyond repair on a wide range of fairly trivial subjects.
