Hoax? Mother and Daughter Come Out about Lesbian Relationship

Like Tree111Likes

“Vertasha and I knew we were attracted to each other when she was sixteen,” Mary Carter said. “But we decided to wait to have sex until she was eighteen, legally of age. We are now going public with our relationship to help others who might be in gay mother/daughter relationship feel confident and okay about coming out. We want the world to know we love each other as mother and daughter and romantically.”

Laws forbid incest mostly because of inbreeding and the birth defects that can often come as a consequence.

“We’re women, so Vertasha and I obviously can’t make children,” Mary Carter said. “It’d be one thing if her daddy (he’s out of the picture) got her pregnant and a baby was born with deformities, but we’re not hurting anyone. We’re a new minority and just want acceptance.”

Vertasha is apparently happy with the relationship as well.

“My mom is still my mom. She does normal mom stuff: buys me clothes, pays for food, tells me to make our bed. We just happen to enjoy sex with each other too.”

I can't fathom this on any level. I am the mother of a daughter. How a parent can have sexual thoughts/acts with their child (regardless of age) is beyond any concept of moral.

The parent-child relationship should never be distorted like this. It's perverted and immoral *Shudders*

Boy oh boy: if this is true, then right-wingers are going to use it to their advantage to argue against gay rights.

I find it rather hard to believe, personally.

"New minority". Dear god, it would be laughable if it wasn't so disgustingly, shamefully wrong.
And good luck with the acceptance.

I'm being like 95% serious here: where is the tolerance?

How are we picking and choosing which things (we might find personally unappealing or morally wrong) to give a pass to and which things to vomit-face?

That is incest - plain and simple. If it were a father saying this about his daughter or son he might be physically attacked by people. Even a mother doing this to her son is a taboo that most societies don't break. This is the same thing. A lot of gay people do not want to br considered perverts so I don't see how anyone who supports gay rights can support this.

In my mind the lesbian part of this is irrelevant , a parent-child sexual relationship is abuse and unacceptable regardless of gender
What criteria are ppl using to decide what is Ok and what is disgusting??? They are two consenting adults. What makes this unilaterally, objectively wrong?

Oh, I doubt anyone here sees this as positive, but it raises an interesting question about morality. I mean, I think it's f'd up, but if I distance myself from the issue and think about it rationally, nevermind if I think it's disgusting, if they aren't harming anyone and it's 100% consentual, how can we say incest is wrong? And yet I still feel like it is.

Since one of them is the mother, I think there is so much room for exploitation. But if they were sisters instead....then what? I don't know. I don't want to incest to be suddenly okay and trivialized, and treat it as just another minority issue or a new kind of sexual orientation or practice, but I also don't like saying two people can't do something that makes them happy and isn't harming anyone.

I think it's a tad hypocritical to judge this so harshly while supporting other nonmainstream or nontraditional types of relationships.

I might find it personally distasteful and at odds w/ my own moral beliefs...but who the heck am I to play judge and jury?

This is the most ****ed up thing I've ever seen. And to all the people calling for tolerance or 'stop judging', i have no idea what the hell is wrong with you.

Adult or not, a 16/18 year old or young adult is still very capable of being manipulated by her mother. Incest almost always provokes universal disgust, that girl did NOT grow up with a normal world view of what constitutes a healthy sexual relationship, and I would be willing to bet my life that the mother had a hand in that only to further her sick sexual needs. I feel sorry for the daughter, I really do. And I feel angered that some people's responses are that she 'consents' so it's okay. The mother has the power here, this was and is ABUSE.

Morals and moral judgement isn't universal or objective. My disgust for this (hypothetical because I don't know these people) relationship stems from my personal belief that incest is wrong and as a mother myself I'm admittedly bias against something like this. I don't like that this article mentions her as being a "normal mother" (whatever the criteria for a normal mother is anyways) because I don't want to be associated with that in any way shape or form.

No I am not. You are letting your "tolerate everything for the sake of tolerance no matter how ****ed up" attitude affect yours. You are making excuses for abuse and it's absolutely disgusting. On a basic human level, regardless of law or ethnicity, children do NOT grow up thinking that it's okay to have sex with your parents. It is something we know by instinct. This is instilled by the parents because they put their own needs before their child's, because they hold the power in the relationship. And who is to say she's even telling the truth about "waiting until 18"? This could have been happening for years before that. Besides she would have been verbally manipulating a young girl into thinking it's normal from a young age most likely.

Making a statement about how girls are married at a young age means absolutely nothing.

It isn't hypocritical at all because I don't believe this was a case of "two consenting adults".

I believe it's a case of one parent manipulating a child into fulfilling their sexual needs, and now the child has grown up and happens to be an adult. That doesn't make her any less of a victim, period. As I've said once, I'll repeat again. Children don't grow up thinking this is normal behaviour, even outside a 'western' society. Almost universal disgust of incest and in particular parent-child incest is biological and evolutionary in nature. Incest breeds defects, humans desire the best mates to produce healthy offspring. And even though this is a female-female relationship, we are human, we can't just turn the evolution switch off.

She is an abused child who has grown up into an abused woman. If this girl was 14 you would all be singing a different story. Abuse victims grow up, they don't suddenly grow out of their chains on their 18th birthday. This is shocking and disgusting, you will not convince me otherwise.
