Show Us Your Eighties Hair!

Like Tree54Likes

I was going through an old box of photos tonight and came across this photo of me in 1982. All I could think was how about that 80's hair! I tried real hard to control my hair back then and it shows!

Show us your 80's hair!! This could be fun!

I am not near my 80s pic's at the moment but I just wanted to say... fantastic idea for a thread! That will be fun.

When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??

It is a good idea for a thread (for those of us who were around!). Not sure I'd be brave enough, I don't like to think of my hair back then, straightened into as much submission as possible!

I can not find my best 80s hair photos right now. If I can locate my 7th & 9th grade year book photos (86 & 89), that would be glorious. I just have a few poor quality, mediocre ones to share, and most of mine involve tragedies of the bangs.

I loved mall hair. My 9th grade photo puts that to shame.

^ I had buzzed in, triangle, sideburns at 11, and a very 80s flower girl dress.

Now this isn't great 80s hair. My hair was mostly straight at this time but can we talk about this outfit?

I have to add this one. It's actually the late 70s, my curl was starting to fade and my hair is not important anyway. My moms however...

Still have not found the good ones but when I was little my hair was my moms experiment. As I got older it was mine. My addiction to Sun In is clear in the top right picture. I either had huge bangs, weird bangs or they were in my face and a different color than the rest of my hair. I was a little skater groupie.

I kind of hate that big hair is always negatively associated with the 80s (not by you), though I totally get why. I still have big hair today (but I wear it curly now in a slightly more contemporary style), and I'm happy to still be able to rock it. I think today's popular hairstyles are pretty cringeworthy, and with the pervasiveness of digital media today, there will be plenty of evidence for them to cringe over in 30 years. I'm actually surprised to see a style we used to wear back in the 80s coming back, where the hair is layered and curling-iron curled all the way around the head If I had time, I'd try to find a pic.

From the very early eighties, with two of my sisters. I'll let you guess which one is me. My hair got curlier when puberty hit.

I know what you mean about being your mom's experiment. I grew up in the Toni Perm era. Can you believe it.. my mother use to perm my hair!! I had the biggest fattest head in town and in my whole school!

Thanks for digging up and posting your photos!

Back then I blew it dry and touched it up where needed with either hot rollers or a curling iron. Now it will be an air or diffuse dry with lots of gel to scrunch out. And no doubt it will be big.. but I will have my mane back but this time it will have lots of shiny silver in it!

I am regressing back to my flowing hippie-ish styles of my teens and will become more bohemian the closer I get to retirement in about 3 years. My hair will be natural and my clothes will be comfortable.

I love big hair but I do see why the 80's gave it a bad name, at times.

I do think DonnitaMae's 80's hair is fabulous. There were several good looks, too.

Yes I believe it! My mom used to do hair so she rolled mine all the time and did protein & conditioning treatments. She highlighted mine several times but did not do a perms on me. She refused. I had to go to someone else.
