Things That Made You Spit Nails/Rip Paper Today

Like Tree17Likes

This is the evil twin of the Things That Made You Happy/Smile Today thread. A place where you can post stories that made you grimace.

While watching the news this afternoon I came across this doozie.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/wo...e-9789499.html

Another source added a bit more information about the girls mother being called in but asked to wait in the lobby while her 5 year old was being evaluated and asked to sign a contract stating she would not kill herself or others because she pointed a crayon and said, "pew, pew"!! Unless she is in a Science Fiction movie, I really wouldn't worry about it. Oh wait... This is straight out of a dystopian sci fi novel. Hence the school recommending further evaluation with a psychiatrist.
When I hear terms like "hipster" I think, who told cliques they could leave high school??

My sister eating strawberries dipped in white table sugar 😟 I tried to tell her how counteractive it was. I just don't get people sometimes.

Haha. I used to do that with lemon wedges as a kid. It was all I would eat in a seafood restaurant. Just give me a bowl of lemons and some sugar. Anything to kill the smell in the air.

That did make my family want to rip paper.

I have came across several things that made me rip paper lately, but I kept forgetting about this thread. I can at least mention the 4 articles/blogs/what have you's where people proclaimed they were "changing the world" or someone else was changing the world. It was always over something minuscule. One was a restaurant review. "Don't just eat here because the food is great. Eat here because the owner is changing the world". With burgers? No one has bought from local farms before? I'm all for that and have been glad to slowly see a return in supporting locals pick up over the last several years. I still don't know how yet another an organic restaurant in the States that will be lucky to not shut down in the first 3-5 years (before you start making a profit) is Globally breaking barriers at this point, but if you say so.

It seems to be a catch all phrase.

^ And it is closing down. All too common. You have to give it a minute before going global.

ETA: I think a large part of the problem with this is the annoying obsession with starting restaurants for "Foodies". First of all, foodies have ADHD and triggers (see SIIDY. i can't stop laughing). They will move on to the next best thing in a millisecond. It's all a flash in the pan and getting a restaurant off the ground is hard enough. Changing the ambiance and obsessing over every last detail has ran some good business into the ground here. #1. Most people in my area don't give a f**k. We love farm fresh food. We like supporting local farmers but the moment you take a good southern dish and try to put some gawd awful trendy spin on it, we are out. We know better.

I don't know if this is the right place to be posting this....but one of my coworkers was really testing my nerves these last few days.

She ordered catering for Monday (I was on vacation) and when she tipped them, she only gave them $5 on a $300 order. Maybe it's just that my husband used to work in food service, but that's ridiculous! How do you expect them to ever want to do business with us again? And then she got really snooty about it. Ugh.

I ordered catering for Tuesday and she was upset that I ordered pizza (at the direction of the Executive Director) and didn't order any salads. I asked the ED if I should order salads and she said no....so I didn't. Then this coworker kept bringing it up. I finally asked if she wanted me to order some and she said no. Then, she was standing by the pizza asking people if they were vegetarians and if they said no, telling them to take the pizza with the meat on it. THEN ATE A VEGGIE PIECE HERSELF AND SHE EATS MEAT! She's just so rude.

Wow! Tipping $5 on a $300 order? Shame on her! I despise cheap, rotten tippers.

While watching The Goldberg's I decided to see how many more schools have banned dodgeball in the last few years and wanted to rip paper. It's a sad state of affairs, curlies. A sad state of affairs. Most schools use foam balls now as opposed to the red, rubber, kickballs. Yet several schools are facing pending lawsuits because a child fell during the game and broke their elbow on the hard gym floor. Or another child running from balls smacked into a classmate and broke his nose. It can't be fixed until he is 18 and his parents "try not to think about it or make him feel different. They let him know things will get better as he gets older." Give me a effing break!! I am so sick of nutty parents. This has been going on for years. Remove everything at the playground that a child has fallen off of or gotten hurt on. Put down foam. Replace everything with foam. Wtf are they doing? I started playing dodgeball in kindergarten, with kickballs. I had already been hit in the face with footballs by my brothers. That was nothing. I sucked at first. I was one of the smallest kids in my class and my feet turned in so I could not run well. I still loved it and before you knew it I would be one of the only remaining kids on the floor, slaying the competition. Did I ever look at Dodgeball as bullying? No. You get rid of the weakest link first. Thats smart. It's good to know your strengths and weakness, work on them, and turn the table.

Anywho, here's a neat article on the demonization of dodgeball

http://priceonomics.com/how-dodgebal...monized-sport/

All that said, apparently some idiots in NY held a game of dodge ball with 100 students and gave them softballs. Softballs. This is what happens when they grow up not knowing how to play the game.

Natural selection is going to bite the over protective parents in the ass one day. Survival of the fittest, not the foamiest.

ETA: The lawsuits make me ponder and wonder... I went to a very old school that was falling apart, aside from the new kindergarten class and library. It hardly had any funding as it was. What would have happened if Carols mom sued when she fell off the monkey bars and broke her arm? We never figured out how she managed to break her arm in the first place. She did not drop far or hit the ground/grass that hard. Some kids break bones easier than others. Some have underlying medical issues.

What would have happened if Davids parents sued when he walked in front of home plate as a classmate was swinging the bat? 56 stitches in head. I held those old brown, sand paper like, bathroom hand towels on his head trying to control the bleeding until his dad made it to the school, picked him up, and took him to the hospital. *I was playing doctor while I did it but don't tell anyone. We were only 8 and the teachers left two 8 year old girls in charge of his care.* Things happen. Kids break bones and get hit in the head by accident (and their own fault).

I remember in sport at school everyone loved dodgeball. It was like an end of term kind of thing where the teachers were just like **** it, let's combine 3 classes and see what happens. It was the most fun, most chaotic. Some people, especially the boys hit the ball hard but the teachers always kept an eye out for people being repeatedly targeted or people aiming for the face. I don't agree with foaming anything or banning something just because it has the potential to hurt you, that could be anything and everything.

My SO inviting a friend to a New Year's Eve party at our place before running it by me.I don't have a problem with the friend, I hasten to add, I have a problem with parties, hate them, find being a hostess very stressful. My SO is very aware of this and I'm so very pissed off at him. I don't really have friends tbh, so it will be all his, a lot of whom to me are just passing acquaintances. Lovely way to spend NYE.
3b in South Australia.
I've seen a lot that makes me want to rip paper today. Not that this wasn't expected or anticipated. Power tripping foam babies with limited critical thinking skills were a given.

I'd rather just do nothing, truth be told. Think I might volunteer to work, pretty sure there's a gap in the roster that night. That's how much I hate parties.

I'm delighted to hear that others share my loathing for parties. I attend only if I MUST, and always leave early, and come to think of it, I hated the last two with especial passion. I never feel like I have anything to do at a party. I usually wind up searching out the host's pet or pets, and spending time with he/she/it. I have done this with lizards.

Also, I feel that if there is cake involved, it should be available from the start, not held back as a reward for "hanging out" for a long time. I bring gift; you give cake. Dealio done! (Unless it's for a child's birthday party.)
