Didn't really fit in the recipe or fitness areas...

Anyway, I have done low carb on and off for years, mostly off. But now I am curious about trying Paleo for a while. It kinda grosses me out that I can eat unlimited cheese and dairy cream on low carb. I LOVE those foods but I think dairy might be keeping me functionally constipated and always 10-15 pounds over my ideal weight. I'm also wondering if there is something in my current diet (like dairy) that could be contributing to my fibro.

Other than fibro, my health is good and I am only 10 pounds away from my ideal weight (not much bc I'm tall). I love meat and vegetables. And I also love fruits but haven't been able to consistently eat them bc I have intermittently been eating low carb.

I am pretty convinced sugar and grains have no place in ~my~ diet...but I understand other ppl can eat them w/out any issues.

I'm confusing myself a little by reading up on Paleo/Primal/Clean Eating/Whole30. I understand the basic concept of Paleo but will probably need cheat sheets.

Plz share thoughts, tips, experiences, anything.

It is very possible the milk is contributing. Whenever I go dairy free for a week or more, I lose about 5 lbs. and just generally feel better. Dairy is an inflammatory, or so I have read in my nutrition research.

I've always wanted to go paleo, but I'm not fond of meat and I need my carbs. So that's a problem lol I did low carb for about a week and ended up almost passing out. Totally wasn't for me, although all my health issues went completely away.

Never done Paleo, so can't comment on that. Other then being REALLY sick, low carb is the only way that I lost weight (30 pounds about 20 years ago.) I'm not quite as good as I used to be, LOL! There's a lot of diabetes in my family, so I continue to watch my carb intake. When we first started, we ate tons of cheese, used around 2 quarts of heavy cream a week and lots of meat, seafood dipped in butter--you get my point. Not only did DH and I both loose weight and keep it off, our "numbers" were great. If I remember correctly, my cholesterol was 140. The important thing about any eating change is that it has to be a "way of life" and not a diet.

I recently found some great low carb recipe sites. This one is my favorite Low Carb Gluten Free Recipes | All Day I Dream About Food

Tried paleo briefly. Dropping dairy was hard, but made a huge difference in how I feel (I have previously been tested and am not lactose-intolerant). I ended up switching to whole food plant-based, so I'm back on (whole) grains and no longer eating meat. I've had better results health-wise since I made the switch.

But maybe they are not. LOL

I love beef and seafood so that's great for low carb and paleo but I HATE eggs, so that has always made it harder.

I'm used to no/low carbs so that's not an issue for me. But the thing that terrifies me is no coffee (w/ cream). I mean TERRIFIES me! If I clarify grass-fed butter, I can still drink coffee and technically be paleo. So I will attempt that. I've already tried it "bulletproof" and it tastes great but I will have to get all of my coffee needs met at home bc it's not like Starbucks or anywhere else I know does that. (I haven't tried it with almond milk or coconut milk added to the butter...but have tried coconut oil). Having done low carb, I realize there are work-arounds for almost every meal/food/dietary craving.

eta - just remembered that "creamed coconut" exists!

So I've switched to goat cheese, and I think it's a bit better for my digestion. I don't know about the inflammatory part of goat's milk though. All I know is it's supposed to be easier to digest. I'm challenged in the digestion area.

I don't love soy milk but have opted for that at Starbucks (coconut milk to be available in the next few days), and Dunkin Donuts offers almond milk.

^^ Assuming you mean the SO Delicious brand of coconut creamers, they do have sugar added to them. So the sweetness is more so from that than the coconut itself. I buy the plain one, and while it still has 1 gram of sugar per TB, it's much less than the flavored brands.

Unless there's another brand out there with no sugar? If so I'd love to hear about it! 😀
I have been eating paleo for almost a week. But I have also been drinking ACV for just over a week (see ACV). So I don't know what to attribute anything improvement to but I feel really good! Far fewer aches and pains.

I have been clarifying grass-fed butter (attempting to, anyway) and adding it to my hot coffee and adding coconut milk to it after it's cold (I drink my coffee iced). It requires less sweetner than when I used dairy cream. And I have been using steia (and tiny amounts of liquid sucralose which I am attempting to wean myself from).

I guess I am not completely paleo since I am using small amounts of sucralose but other than that, I am compliant.

I've been eating low carb for years. I tried paleo for a short time, but prefer primal as it is less restrictive. Basically tho, I just call myself a low carb eater. I've never been a fan of dairy so it's easy to not overdo it. I use almond milk and full fat canned coconut milk as a replacement for milk and cream. I eat minimal cheese, mostly blue cheese for homemade dressing and parm for Italian dishes. I would never give up rice or pasta or cereal completely but have reduced my intake significantly (I used to eat all of these just about every single day, plus bread and potatoes). I don't keep bread or potatoes in the house, but will eat them out occasionally. I do use sweeteners (splenda or stevia) and I do drink diet coke. But I mostly eat clean, buy local, etc etc.

Due to my allergies, I have to stick to shopping the outside of the grocery aisles. So I already know that if it is processed in any way (I can't grow it, kill it, pick it) it's on my list to read the ingredients as I might be allergic. That's how I always looked at it, so Paleo just made sense (meat-fruit-veggies-nuts). It's basically everything that I'm not allergic to.
