Attn: Gardeners - Mystery Plant?

Like Tree14Likes

So we moved to our house last October, when a lot of plants/flowers had died off. My fiance had mowed over some stuff alongside the garage, but whatever was there had already died. Now we are getting sprouts.

Can anybody identify what this is? There used to be a garden in this area.

Much as I love my garden, I'm pretty hopeless with plant identification - do you think it's maybe some bulbs coming through? They could have been dormant when they were mown over so it wouldn't have affected them.

Yes, they are definitely bulbs. I'm just curious what kind.

My aunt is an awesome gardener, sent the pic to her. Will let you know if she gets back to me!

Thanks! Crocus are pretty, I'd be happy to have those! My neighbor thought tulips or daffodils, but they don't look a thing like those.

Tulips would have been my guess, but I'm terrible in the garden!

It looks like I might have 2 different plants coming up? Here are some more that are a couple feet away from the other.

The leaves on my crocus are much finer than those. Snowflakes and narcissi are the first to come through in my garden, though maybe things are different in your neck of the woods.

My cubicle mate at work thinks the first one is daffodils and the second one is crocus.

So funny how everyone sees something different.

I was thinking about your plants (the first ones) today and thought hyacinths, I see cailin beat me to it.

I was in the yard with the dog yesterday at lunch and saw even more greens sprouting up! It looks to be 3 different kinds out there. The third has thinner leaves, which to me looks more like daffodils.

I can't wait for things to bloom!!

They look like daffodils to me but hard to say for sure when they are that small. But yay for mystery plants!

The smaller plant (the second pic I posted) are daffodils, they are finally blooming and budding. The larger leafed one (the first pic I posted) has no buds. I still have no clue what it is!!! I'll take a new picture at lunch and post later.

No idea, that's a lot of foliage without buds. I can't believe how quickly it's grown to that size!

Maybe it's just some sort of foliage that won't have flowers... which is totally lame. Who would plant that there?? I don't understand the daffodils there either, but whatever - I'll replant those.

Does anybody know the best time to replant daffodils? Could I do it now or should I wait until they die off and replant the bulbs?

I'm sure those plants will flower. They could be a later blooming daffodil or hyacinth or something that blooms later in the year. Give them some time.
Daffodils should be transplanted after the flowers are totally done and the foliage starts to die back (don't cut the foliage off right away. Leave it on there till it starts to wilt and turn brown, then cut it halfway back. Then you can transplant. Be careful not to cut the bulbs.)
