What the heck is going on in the world today?!?!?

In case you haven't heard, a 21 yo white male attended service at the oldest AME church in the south for the purpose of "killing black people". Nine people died, 2 were injured, 2 were left unarmed

With all sincerity, bless their hearts. Just asked myself that same question, Scrills.'I woke up for a glass of water, turned on the tv and saw the coverage so I'm just getting the details. We had some storms on and off last night that messed up our satellite signal at work so we didn't watch the 11pm or 5-6 am news as usual. The shooter is 21, I think they said?? I am thankful a person saw his car, gave the info and they were able to catch him fairly quickly.

I'll be interested in what he has to say. Why that church? Why a church, period?

ETA: “You rape our women and you’re taking over our country. And you have to go,” witnesses recalled the gunman saying.

What in the world? Men of every walk have been known to rape, even Preists, Pastors, Ministers, etc... Why say that and then kill 6 women? The guy looks like he is 12 years old. At least police in Shelby took him alive and he can answer some questions. I hate that people are fighting over motives already. The questions of race and/or religion are both valid. You don't have to pick one and fight people over it. He is alive. They may be able to get some answers out of him. I'm surprised we did not get anything over DCI but our system was screwy last night. Shelby is about 2.5-3 hours from me. Scary. They probably did state wide and entered him in the system. Perhaps increased the range of the message but when entered, the suspect info will pop up if the tag is ran. Someone able to watch the news would see the info too.

Watch him, the public or the legal system claim the "mentally ill" card. White male privilege at its finest. *bleh* I'm so sick of this sh*t.

EDIT: Here is a link to the victims' name & backstories. In times like these, these idiotic murderers get WAY too much attention and press, which is what they want.

How could he try to bring the attention to Charleston as a city, in light of the vast numbers of people who have been devastated by this evil ?

Does anyone know if there's a text fund set up yet for the victims?

He also had a "confederate states of america" license plate, and apparently patches for apartheid South Africa and Rhodesia on his fb page. So I think it's fair to assume he was racist and given that and what he said to one of the survivors that this was a hate crime motivated by his racism and could be considered domestic terrorism.

Why this church? Why ask for the preacher by name? Ill will and harm intended because of race alone or did he have particular issues with the charter of the church, or charter of other churches. Had he been in contact with any particular hate groups? What do they have a bias against? Did he have plans to do something similar elsewhere? Do others have plans to do something similar elsewhere? Explore every avenue. For the safety of the public and to conduct a complete investigation they can't park on opposite streets and argue like the press.'

I'll have to look at the article on his background. I know they said he is from Lex. SC but I found it odd that news only listed one school from his freshman year.

My thoughts:

a) why is no one officially calling this terrorism? that's exactly what it is. why aren't they out there trying to smoke out and stamp out white supremacist groups?

b) if this isn't an argument for gun control, (along with the school shootings, Aurora etc.) what is?

I notices the statements from Santorum and those made of FOX are trying to spin this as a result of their "War on Christianity". W.T.F??? Ugh.

Fox is going to get racist Christians all mad, and instead on concentrating on the victims and their pain, these viewers can concentrate on themselves, (and some will get ideas for more acts of terrorism).

ps- I am not insinuating all Christians are racist. I would never ever say that, and I don't believe it in any way. I said Christian only as a response to Fox's programming. Usually Fox tends to forget there are a lot of black Christians.

Really sad. I can't believe he sat there for I think at least an hour and prayed with them! I'm waiting to hear what 'mental illness' he has.

Charleston shooter Dylann Storm Roof was reportedly taking a drug that has been linked with sudden outbursts of violence, fitting the pattern of innumerable other mass shooters who were on or had recently come off pharmaceutical drugs linked to aggression.

According to a CBS News report, earlier this year when cops searched Roof after he was acting suspiciously inside a Bath and Body Works store, they found “orange strips” that Roof told officers was suboxone, a narcotic that is used to treat opiate addiction.

According to a Courier-Journal report, suboxone “is increasingly being abused, sold on the streets and inappropriately prescribed” by doctors. For users, it is even more addictive than the drugs it’s supposed to help them quit. As we previously highlighted, virtually every major mass shooter was taking some form of SSRI or other pharmaceutical drug at the time of their attack, including Columbine killer Eric Harris, ‘Batman’ shooter James Holmes and Sandy Hook gunman Adam Lanza.

Ah. So they've found a way to make this guy "mentally ill" rather than "radical" or "extremist." Didn't take long.

It's a hate crime regardless of what drug he did or didn't take. He planned it, executed it and ran. That's premeditated; he won't be able to get away with any kind of "mentally ill" defense. He should be drowned like a rat.

All that tax money that's going to be spent on his trial and his appeals and feeding and housing him for 20+ years...we could have SAVED all that money.

This person HAD to have been a product of a racist home. He had to have been. If his parents had taught him from his earliest age that every individual has value and that everybody is beautiful, he would NOT have had the thoughts he did. I am sorry for "blaming the parents" but obviously, this person was NOT taught correctly.

Unfortunately, racism and "hate crimes" still do exist in our country. The people who were killed were beautiful, wonderful people. The world is a much darker place because they are gone. I am deeply, deeply grieved.

I'm definitely a "curly" 2c. Sometimes curly and sometimes just wavy upper layer with a ringlety under layer. My hair has been thick and coarse since birth. Strawberry blonde in color that can and does change depending on the type and amount of light.

All in all, I'm happy with my hair type but almost for sure think yours is prettier.

I get it that people don't like Fox but accusing Fox of racism is highly unfair, ESPECIALLY during something like this.

I am a Christian, Conservative, and ANTI RACIST. After the whole "Rachel Dolezal" fake black woman thing, I've been thinking how I can personally work to help "the cause". Please don't think that all Christian Conservatives are racist. I am not sure where that came from but I don't know ANY Christian Conservatives who are racist and I have Christian Conservative friends of various races. I also have family members of other races, too.

I would challenge anyone who says Fox is racist to please link to a clip that has racist content on it. Keep in mind that Melissa Harris-Perry and Al Sharpton come up with some "racist doozies" for MSNBC.
