Which of us are job hunting?

I am so down today I can't even eat It's just like, "Another season...here I am...same exact place..."

It's so hard staying excited about interviews when I don't feel like myself AT ALL. I'm not me anymore.
And this is random, but exactly how hard is it to get a job with the super little kids at day care centers???

I know this young woman who has gotten fired from two day cares in a 2-week span. She's now on her third. She gets fired for being rude to the kids, giving too much information to parents about the kids' behavior (instead of letting the teachers do so) and for wearing too-revealing clothes.

And yet people keep hiring her.

She's gotten all these jobs on-the-spot...she goes and knocks on doors and asks to work there and she just keeps getting hired.

I'm so confused...do some of these day cares just hire ANYBODY off the street??? Because that's pretty much what this girl is doing!

And it's not like I want that job, but I just can't believe we live in a world where this girl gets every job she goes in for and I don't have one.

Not every day care is like this, thank goodness, but they are still stressful and hardly well paying.

The second one this girl worked at offered her $5 AN HOUR WITH TWELVE HOUR DAYS. I told her that was way below minimum wage and that they were trying to pull a fast one on her. SHADY!

That's it. I give up. In light of the Courtney Stodden thread, it is clear the only way I am EVER going to get money is marry an old man and spend my time posting and tweeting about my luscious, pearlescent white-chocolate body and how it melts in men's mouths.

I am rapidly approaching the end of my current contract (and it pays terribly anyway) so I'm ramping up the job searching again.

I only find maybe 5 jobs a week in my field that I can even apply to. There is nothing really entry level out there - everything that requires a degree also requires 5 if not 10 years of experience.

I've applied to 5 or so jobs a week for a year and a half now and netted ONE interview.

It really boggles my mind that I've applied for tons of these part-time positions at the company I work for and only gotten one interview - then last week my husband got a pile of resumes for one of these jobs that he is filling and the applicants make me look like a rock star. How have I gotten no interviews at all!?

I'm not looking forward to starting this junk full time again.

cmb, how do you apply for positions at the company you work for? I mean, do you apply via e-mail? Can you drop off a resume in person? If it's possible to do, in-person seems to me the way to go!

I had a 2nd interview this a.m. for a job I want. He really seems to like me, and I'm trying so hard not to count on it. I'm in competition with one other person. He said it's her youthful energy, vs. my experience and engaging personality, or words to that effect. I have energy! Waiting...waiting...waiting.... I think I need to eat some ice-cream - more energy!

Internally, my husband can't see much more than I can - he can get the HR person's name, but no one else.

The jobs I've applied to since starting working, I've gotten my boss to send a recommendation for me. I haven't applied for any of the part time ones since getting my current gig, since they're not really a step upwards from what I'm doing.

Part of the problem is that because of the economy, job requisitions get created, and before they can fill them they have to freeze them because they lose the money to hire someone before they can even do it. One job I think I'd be a great fit for, and have a recommendation in for, I've been "under consideration" since 8/11. My husband found someone who knew about the job's existence who said that it's basically just sitting there, waiting until they have money, at which point they would do interviews.

I saw my former boss in the street and honestly and to run to a bathroom in a hotel and throw-up I felt so ridiculous. Just seeing his face brought it all back to me I HATE that I'm letting him do this to me and I logically know how wrong I am.

But I just feel so screwy right now, with a self-esteem damaged beyond repair...and he's being celebrated. He's the toast of the town, people want to work with him...despite how he treated somebody who was a great employee like me.

The universe makes zero sense sometimes

I know it is almost impossible, but try not to let him steal anymore of your happiness. Do whatever you can to take your mind off of him. That which we pay attention to grows. Again, I know how tough it is - believe me, I've been there, and it's 100 times easier said than done.

We're here for you, CIBC.

I was SO EXCITED when I got this phone call thinking they wanted to produce me and that it was finally some good news...but, oh no...this guy just wanted to grill me on how to get in with my former boss He's ALSO a playwright and has sent scripts to him.

(I SO wanted to say, "Ah, yes, you're one of those random playwrights who would send him plays that would sit on his desk for two years before he finally handed them to me to skim and write a very nice rejection letter to............")

It just stung so much, because here I was thinking it was going to be something great I earned by being talented, but they JUST wanted to use me to get to HIM.
^^^ That's a bytch! Disappointment you don't need at this time in your life. SMH.

Ughhh I had a dream last night that I went back to the office and had this insane SCREAMING MATCH with the woman I worked with that I never liked. She kept telling me I was a horrible employee and deserved to be fired.
I got the job I was wanting as an Executive Assistant. At first I was thrilled, then anxiety took over. I am so anxious and worried that I won't do well. I really need this job for the money, more than I have ever needed a job before.

I'm not going to tell anyone in my family (although I will tell my friends) just in case it doesn't work out. I was fired from my last job in a boutique for not being assertive enough - this is in an office and I should do really well at it. I'm friendly but I do tend to be timid and shy. I've taken assertiveness classes, but they didn't help.

Meanwhile, everyone else hang in there!!! If I can get a job (66, weak voice, curly hair didn't behave during interview) you guys have got to be in line for something good. I'll keep watching this thread and crossing my fingers for all of you.

That's amazing!!!! Congratulations!!!!!

And I hear you on not telling people...once I get one (if I get one...) I'm not telling anybody for a few weeks.
Congrats CurlyPearl! I know you'll do smashingly! And I completely understand your trepidation. You are going into the unknown, and it's scary, but you CAN do it!

Congrats CurlyPearl! I'm sure you will do just fine. Be calm and just listen to them. Do as they instruct and then make the job your own! You can do this! I am so excited for you!
