Also, now I have it in my head that all the college students are going to be graduating this month and I'm competing with millions more for these jobs of now!

CIBC, I know how you feel. I just keep telling myself that people find new jobs everyday and it's just a matter of time (patience).
I try to believe that I will find the RIGHT job when the time is RIGHT.

I just left a message with The Humane Society about assisting with the animal adoptions at one of their Petsmart locations. I think it's part time, but that would be so awesome! My mom says I should show them the cat tattooed on my shoulder
Anyway, I hope the guy calls back.

Thanks...sometimes I wish I didn't get so many interviews! It makes me feel like, "You are great on paper! But we really don't like you in person!" I sometimes feel like my friends will say that they don't get called in for any interviews, then get ONE and get the job. I go on a ton and don't get anything! Makes me so crazy.
I also try to look at the bright side, that I've been inside the buildings of a lot of cool companies.
(Including to work for Elle magazine last year! Made me laugh. I fit in real well there! I was interviewed by 3 tall women with long, straight blond hair and were all incredibly fashionable. Enter the tiny, wide-eyed brunette. I was so Ugly Betty.)

Honestly, I think the reasons why employers will pick one person over another sometimes are so artibitrary. I doubt you are doing anything wrong on the interviews or that they don't "like" you. There shouldn't be any reason to take it personally.
But, I know! It's so hard not to!

HaHa, I know what you mean. I've been on a number of face to face interviews and even more phone interviews and I always feel like a loser when they don't call back. Kinda like the girl in gym class that nobody wants on their team.
Although a few places have been nice to call and say "You were one of the finalists, but we picked another candidate that was......blah blah blah". Yeah, rub it in.....

Had the stupidest interview today It was on entertainmentcareers.net and when they called me, I couldn't find much online about the company, but I figured it couldn't hurt to go in.
My interview was at 5:15 (weird) and the lobby was full of people my age in business attire waiting to go in. One would go in...for literally, 90 seconds...come out...next! 90 seconds...come out...next!
So I just told myself, "You're gonna be in there for 90 seconds, it's not you, it's just how they're doing it, don't even worry about it."
The woman asked me three questions (my salary requirements, my goals, and what I have been doing since I wasn't working...well, looking for a job IS my job. And it's only been a month!)
She told me she'll be in touch if she wanted a second interview and dismissed me.
I walked away and smiled sheepishly at the poor souls waiting to go in.
Sheesh!!!!!!!!
What a waste!!!!!!! I wish I had other interviews today instead of going up to the city just for that!

I am tired!
I really hate this! My first jobhunt really wore me out and drained and depressed me.
I know it could be much much much worse. I'm not supporting four kids or anything.
It's hard for me to talk to some of my friends, especially the girl that got the first job she interviewed after graduation, and since then, has had two MORE great jobs. She never has gotten fired or laid-off...just seems like she goes, "Yeah, I'm tired of this, I'm going to apply to something new and get the first job I interview for."
It's even hard for me to wander around the city after interviews and seeing all these people going to and from work. THEY all have jobs, why can't I?
I swear, I CANNOT do this for another two years like the first time.

I got an e-mail today that said "This is to confirm that you are coming in for an interview tomorrow at 12:00 pm." I was like.... whaaaaaat? I had just applied for that job last night. Then I realized it had been addressed to Gina. I e-mailed the woman back to let her know she'd sent me that message in error because I wanted to make sure that Gina was reminded of her interview. The woman replied saying her fingers had been working faster than her brain
So, yeah, that was kind of amusing.

I thought that I was going to be able to get an unemployment extension. Apparently my state did away with those in 2003. My unemployment will run out the 2nd to last week in June. So if I don't find a job pretty soon it will be back to minimum wage.
When applying for jobs online I can usually predict which companies will call me back. I had an interview today from a place I expected to call me back but took awhile to do so. The guy said he got 200 resumes and read them all, I was one of the 10 that got an interview. Not sure how it went, I guess interviews are awkward but this one felt really awkward. The guy asked a lot of unclear questions. The 80's decor reminded me of my old job that I hated with a passion. *shudder* I'm supposed to write them a letter expressing whether or not I'm still interested. It would help to know what kind of salary they were offering but of course that information wasn't offered.

I interviewed with the Humane Society last year for a PR position. Went on 2 interviews and didn't get a thanks but no thanks letter until April '07. They must take forever to complete the hiring process.

Ha! Very funny. Then she gave me the whole, "we are looking for people with your background. You are in the database we'll keep pushing for you.
I almost laughed and said "Yeah right!"
Also, my internet is down so I want to send out a million resumes just because I am in a MISSION and I can't.

Question for everyone who mentions sending out "a million" resumes. Are you sending out the same resume for everything you apply for or tailoring it to each position? Also where are you finding the jobs to apply to? Are you using mass job sites like careerbuilder, company websites, sending them to network connections? I'd love to be sending out more resumes but don't qualify for a lot of jobs.

In case you don't already know..you don't have to meet all of the requirements exactly. Even with years experience and things like that. When I send them out('a million') I do look at those big websites and send out the same resume for most of them..but then there are a few or maybe even just one that is something I am really interested in or matches my skills exactly..then I'll take the time to tailor my cover letter and resume(if needed) for that job.

I believe it's best to tailor a resume--as much as possible--to the position/job description. Having one for different categories can help to save time and minimize the need for revisions.
