Which of us are job hunting?

What about all of you? What's the biggest pay cut you'd consider, and just how perfect would the job have to be in order to take it? (Obviously, this assumes you're like me and have a perfectly fine job that you can just as easily keep. If you're out of work it would be a different story.)

But, it's not like I can count on the contract work to be consistent, so we'll see. Any extra helps, especially since I can do the contract work from home and only need about 10 hours per week to bring in a healthy sum.

AND, congratulations, mayim!!

Lots of interview updates...no job...but updates!

I got this email, which made me happy because I felt appreciated and she sounds nice!

Hello Christine,

Thanks for your resume-

I think you have the spirit and go-get-it initiative we like but I really need someone with publishing sales experience.

I will keep your resume on file as we may need an assistant soon in the sales dept., if that is of interest.
i got a job!

it is in my second choice of city, but i still think i'll be very happy there.

i was brave and did a tough salary negotiation with the smaller school that i liked a lot better, and it turned out that they were able to offer me a bit above what i was willing to take as my bottom figure.

the contract is coming in the mail this week. i'm so happy!!!!

Your resume is fantastic! I actually have 2 clients looking to hire ASAP!
Your experience is exactly what they are looking for. Lets not waste
much time, but when is the soonest you come in and meet with me?

But hey look into it, it doesn't hurt.

thanks for the congrats everyone! i'm super excited.

good for you, netg - i'm so happy for you, too. i did the same thing about 6 years ago. i did some soul searching and changed careers, and in doing so took a yooooooooooooooooge pay cut. i did the same thing at first - took some contract work on the side to make up for the lack of $$. it was a leap of faith, but it worked out in the end. i couldn't be happier doing what i'm doing right now (and i'm making decent money again, too).

it is totally worth it to do what feels right for your soul. the money and whatever else will totally follow if you try to live as authentically as possible, in my experience.

1) Had a second interview at the place that gave me the grammar test yesterday. I'm not sure how it went, I know a gazillion people applied for it, so I should be happy to be getting a second interview...but I still don't have a job!

However, the lobby did have a grand piano with a dude in a tuxedo playing Mariah Carey and Sheryl Crowe songs...and what else do you need!

2) Had a phone interview today and sadly, the chick had laryngitis. We didn't talk too long, and she sounded pretty bad, but was nice, and said she wanted to figure out what direction to send my resume in and that she'd email me and let me know who she forwarded it to and who I should expect to hear from.

3) Interview with a big magazine company on Friday. I had interviewed there over a year ago, before I had gotten my previous job, so maybe that one year of experience will make the difference...

In all, I am trying very hard not to get frustrated, but it's rough! I feel like other people are just waltzing in and going on one or two interviews and getting a job. And, several of my friends from my last office quit and moved onto other jobs since my lay-off, and I feel like the sole loser who got laid-off and can't find anything new!

I know I am interviewing with huge companies that get thousands of applicants and only a handful of jobs...just losing hope that I'll ever get hired again!
Please don't lose hope, CIBC. I admire your tenacity.

I know it's hard, but try to put out of your mind thoughts of this search lasting two years. Focus more on what it will look like when you finally get the job you are looking for.

Thanks...but if I listened to you, I'd be working with puppets!!!!
Warning: Negative post. If you don't feel like hearing negative vibes don't read.

I am here just to whine today. It feels like I never will get a job.

I called a temp agency today and the woman said to come in and meet with her. She submitted my resume couple of weeks ago and said the position is not filled yet. Still they haven't called me for an interview.

Honestly this has to be one of the worse thing I have ever had to do in my life. Only because it drags out with no end in sight.
To me this is very scary and I NEVER imagined I would ever be in this situation.
I am glad you girls are around so I can have someone whoe understands.
I definitely share your sentiments violets. I have been sort of procrastinating applying for more things because I'm so sick of the rejection. I know that I will find a job eventually because I could land a minimum wage job today. But I often feel that I'm finding a continuous cycle of low paying jobs. I got a lead from a staffing agency, only to find out that the pay is the same amount I was making before. I don't expect to make a ton of money but it would be nice to be out of the mid 20 range and into the 30s. I really don't think that is unreasonable. I am kicking myself for turning down a job offer I got immediately out of school for $30k. It probably would've been a much better position than the one I had to settle for and I would be much further along by now.

I am still waiting to hear from a few places...and have a few more interviews lined-up...and I am l living at home and have savings...and I really am not interested...

Since I am turning down a job, I AM NOT ALLOWED TO BE A SAD SAC! I am going to look at this as some kind of a game, and keep my spirits up and know I'll keep getting interviews and am capable of being hired!

Honestly though...one thing does worry me...do you ONLY get a job if you know somebody who already works there???
Awww, the cat hosptial sent me a rejection letter. I didn't even go for an actual interview and they sent me a rejection letter. Jeez... just don't call again, I'll get the hint.
