Which of us are job hunting?

So...

First interview yesterday...A LITTLE strange with the questions, but everybody was really nice. It's technically a publishing office but they said they seek-out theatre people because they really mesh with them.

Some of the questions:

"How many thank you notes did you write in 2012?"
"How many minutes per week do you spend looking for something you've misplaced?"

I took the "Thank You" note question that it would make a good impression if I wrote-out a thank you note within a few hours of the interview and left it with the front desk. And if it looked weird...whatever...so was that question!

The second one, all pressure was off because my friend was present at the table and I already knew the man interviewing me. Great interview, but I had to take an HTML test and I tried to memorize codes the night before but clearly didn't do well enough in one day! The guy said to me, literally winking, that he'd let me learn it and see what he can do...sooo...sounds promising right?

I was also asked, "What's your favorite 1980's TV theme song?" at an interview yesterday. I immediately answered "Fame". Now I'm just kicking myself. I could have been so much more creative! Fame doesn't even really count because it was a movie theme song before it was a TV theme song! Why didn't I say Kate and Allie? Or start humming the theme from Highway to Heaven???

He gave me the HTML test to take home, and last night, I downloaded a manual onto my Kindle and read through it and redid the test.

I redid the test and emailed it back to him, and wrote:

I know that I clearly didn't have too much HTML experience, and haven't really used it since we had to make mock-websites in college, but as I said, I'm a quick learner, and I would definitely even be willing to take an online course if that would help. I downloaded a HTML for Dummies book onto my Kindle and tried to read through it, and then redid the test you had me take today. I'm sure it's not perfect, but it's definitely better than it was before...I am attaching it to this email and I'll gladly retake it again if you want me to. I'm sure it gets easier once you're used to it.
That's really all I can do at this point, right?

Why can't people be prompt. If I'm prompt responding to you, you should be prompt responding to me dammit.

Anyway, I have an interview for a temp agency on Thursday. I hope a job follows soon after that because I could really use some income. It's been since August.

Busy working flat out to make photo albums to open an Etsy store. I think I want to make bookbinding more of a career. But everything costs so much, materials alone. Let alone the possibility of further study/courses...

Can i seriously be considering his after running up debt on an illustration course - much as I loved it.

But I also love the idea of working in publishing...
I'm really trying not to stay positive, everyone...it's just so freaking frustrating.

Thank you. I was SO relieved after that last interview because it really felt like I had the job! I just don't get it. And I'm trying to forget that last monstrosity of a job ever even happened by just remembering how nasty and miserable those people were. I used to feel nauseous walking through the door every day because I felt like they were just dying to find the tiniest of mistakes I was making to harp on and not noticing a single thing I was doing right. I felt unappreciated, unwanted and unliked. Why the HELL do I care if they wanted to fire me???????? Because it left me without a great salary, means to move-out and health benefits.
I got my rejection!

He said they're being bought by another company (which he explained to me at the interview) and the new company is in charge of hiring the new assistant.

Same ol'...you're awesome/you're talented/I hope our paths cross again, etc. etc. etc.

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

I was reading the email to my friend when I got it and kept saying, "This guy WINKED at me at my interview! WHO DOES THAT?"

She said to respond to the email with a winky face...haha.
What? What? What? Good grief, D, Good grief!

Well, this is a first.

I had an interview on Friday.

I just got this email:

Due to an internal change here yesterday, we unexpectedly found ourselves needing someone to start this coming Monday. So as a result, we hired someone we interviewed earlier this week. This was an unexpected change and we needed to move immediately, so my apologies for the timing of this. You seem very qualified and I will definitely keep your resume handy.

I've been obsessively checking my email and I've been paranoid that I may not be receiving incoming emails.

Darn it all to heck.
Just had a catch up dinner with my friends. Fab time, but man. I feel like the sad kid of the group. They all have jobs they love, related to illustration. And I have no job, no money.

They're all talking about how they are moving in with boyfriends, getting their first house etc etc, I can't afford to move out. Because I have no money. And no job. In June it will be three years since I graduated and I've gotten nowhere and done nothing.

I could do a little weepy.
Have any of you considered looking outside of the u.s for a job?

Still no job here either. I'm actually thinking a change of scenery is needed because Atlanta and its metro area doesn't seem to be in my favor anymore. Heck, I've lived here 15.5 years, so maybe the city's tired of me.

I've started applying for data entry/office assistant positions in the Dallas, Texas area since I have friends/family there. When I get a job there, at lease I won't have to worry about apartment hunting and being new to a city and not knowing my way around and all of that.

My friend and I were discussing the job markets and she said that it almost seems as if having a BA makes you overqualified for positions. It's like, "What the heck did I spend my time and money on to earn a degree if I can't get a job?!" UGH!

Crossing my fingers for an interview and acceptance to at least one of the jobs I've applied to because I need money.
CIBC - continue to hang in there. You have gone through some crazy things. When you premiere a play about all if this, I'm coming to see it.

Kat - it's hard but try not to compare yourself to your friends. Sometimes your path can be different from what is typical based on what options have available. Look at it this way: if you can survive this, everything else in life will pretty much be smooth sailing. You have gained resourcefulness and the ability to handle a crisis.

Lala - what types of jobs are you interested in? Industry? Experience level? IME, most "professional" jobs require a bachelor's degree as a minimum. However, entry-level data entry and office assistant position may not require any degree. Have you tried networking in your industry?
