Ugh, I need to vent about that girl who wrote the horrible cover letter.
She comes-off freaking ODD, zero social skills, very rude and harsh, and let's just say her clothes/make-up could use some help. (She's one of those young women that I wonder what my mom would do if her daughter was like THAT considering she gives me a hard enough time...)
She got fired from four daycare center jobs in a row. She had one 6-month temp job about three years ago, and she's never done an internship and doesn't even know Excel or PowerPoint.
She got fired last week, and we had this exchange yesterday. At the time, she had no interviews set-up, but she thinks she can have a job by Wednesday.
She is now looking for a full-time office career, with benefits, etc. etc. etc.
I am scratching my head.
What planet is this girl living on and can we all move there and be done with this thread, because apparently jobs are SO EASY to get?
-
Her:
Im just hoping to b able to get a job by Wednesday
it would be kind of okay with my if I went back to work on Thursday, Friday, or even Monday.
not that Im saying its guaranteed..Im just saying, it'd be nice.
- me:
well, hardly any job starts in the middle of the week.
- her:
then it'd b nice if it started Monday. At least I 'll get 3 or 4 real days to relax...
Tuesday, it would hace to start Tuesday-Monday is President's Day
- me:
keep in mind that there are a million people unemployed right now with great backgrounds who are also applying for the same jobs. including myself.
- her:
I realize that..still hopeful i'll have a career-type job by next week.
- me:
But don't set your sights too high. Half the country is out of work
- her:
Im much too optomisitc and ambitious and motivated to think like that
sorry
- me:
I'm optimistic as well, but I am also realistic and have been working my butt off for two years to land a great job and haven't yet.
we wouldn't be in a recession if it was that easy to get a job

I didn't sleep at ALL last night!!! I have an interview at 9 AM. I'm chugging the coffee as we speak.
In the middle of the night, I just start obsessing about EVERYTHING (I SOOOOOOO need to stop that...but, like I said, I really think I have PMDD and this is the week...) and every wrong turn I might have made and feeling like I have messed-up my entire life and it's too late for anything. I even though of that rude man who snapped at me in the library.
I put Joel Osteen on on YouTube and listened to him while I was going to sleep. The one I put on was about how God will right all your wrongs, and even if you feel like things are SO unfair and you're not getting anywhere, God is fair and is keeping score of what you've gone through and the worse you've had it, the more blessings are in store for you. (And that you should actually THANK people for wronging you because they're setting you for a bigger comeback...and that we have to be like palm trees and bounce back.)
It's SO simple and happy and optimistic, and I kinda need to listen to that kind of stuff right now.
Also, I caught-up with a high school friend the other night and she told me that she was out-of-work and going crazy for a long time, and also dating all these jerks, and then she got a new job and met her now-husband on her first day of the job! I'm holding onto faith that everything will happen for me at once.

got my paws cross for you CIBC!! working in the empire state building would be cool!
good news and bad news. my dad got a job opportunity in delaware. if he takes in he will leave tomorrow, make double of what he is making now. but it could last a couple days, a week, or a month depending or how long the job takes. the bad news is he may have broken his foot and because he refuses to get insurance if it is broken no one can do anything about it. and he wont be able to take the job.

I was actually complimented for my work today. That made me feel good. Also, the temp agency from yesterday got in touch with me today so I have an interview with them on Monday.
I'm getting pretty tired right now. My coffee high is wearing off. I really ned to wean off the stuff anyway.
It has been a sucky morning/few weeks for me. I haven't been getting along with my mom and I'm sad because her birthday is today. I have other family issues going on as well. Trying not to cry about it but I'm really sad

Even if she sent this rejection to everybody, she gets points for originality and sensitivity!

Well, she hired one of the people she knew!
The woman from her office called me yesterday and I started listening to the message and really thought I was going to get an offer!!
BUT, it was just to tell me that she hired one of those children of friends that she interviewed (ugh ugh ugh), but, "She thought you were SO SO GREAT, she really did, and she has a friend who is hiring right now and wants to pass your resume to her because she thinks you'd be a good fit."
Ah, well.

Have any of you ever heard contemporary Christian artist Laura Story's song "Blessings"? - she won a Grammy for it last year. Anyway, the words are so appropo for what a lot of you are going thru, though she wrote it when her husband had a brain tumor a few years ago.
I love the song, and the words often help me put things in perspective at times when I really need it.
(screwy site suddenly saved this before I was finished or had even put in the link)
Chins up! Good luck to you all - I try to always remember you in my T's & P's!

Had a talk with the fam and we're doing better, therefore I'm feeling more positive.
I spoke to the executive director and business manager and they said they'll let me know an update tomorrow. I'm glad because the daily commute downtown is expensive and I need answers. I'm really nervous and anxious. I like the mission of the non profit, the staff is cool, but the director has a challenging personality and seems hard to please most of the time. The environment is dry but I can get over that. I've actually gotten kinda used to it
I can't afford to be unemployed for much longer though.

Sooooooo, I had an interview with this company on Wednesday for a book marketing job. Everyone was British.
It went great, and they told me there wouldn't be a second round.
They want to meet me for coffee.
In your experience, do they ever want to meet in person so they can hire you personally???????????

Yea. They offered me the position but said I'd still be trialing because they want to see more of what I'm capable of. I didn't accept it on the spot though. I'm still thinking about it.
I slacked off today because I was feeling sick for a few hours and I was really tired. I really wasn't expecting them to want to hire me but they did. The boss has gotten less intense and less hyper critical, but it is still too early to tell. The pay isn't great and they wouldn't even negotiate, which I didn't like. But they said there will be opportunities for advancement and higher pay, potentially even in the very near future.
I have a lot to think about. I need an income and besides some not so great things, this is a great organization and opportunity.
