Which of us are job hunting?

I'm so sick of the interviewing process. What the hell is wrong with me that I can't find a job? I have two weeks of unemployment left so I'm pretty much screwed and it will be back to minimum wage.

Some temp agencies even offer health insurance.

Another place to check is your unemployment office; they usually have several job postings.
Regarding temp and temp-to-hire agencies,
the candidate must also call and check-in at least once a week.

This shows that you are truly interested in finding a job.

I would register with at least three agencies. Also look into state jobs.

Some agencies only deal with low paying jobs or with companies that don't want to pay fairly...this has happened to me. Eventually, I ask them not to call unless the pay is a certain amount.

My mom suggested that I call the company and so I did. I asked them for my own personal information if there was anything that I did or didn't do. She said that they got an overwhelming response to the ad and they just sort of weeded people out. That nothing bad was said about me etc... Not that it makes me feel any better. While it wasn't my dream job I figured it was a good way to get my foot in the door with a large company, good benefits, opportunity for growth. Now with all the new grads flooding the market I have even more competition.
I haven't tried the employment agencies yet. I think that's what I'll have to do after I get back from vacation. There are quite a few agencies here in my med. sized town; so it's hard to know which ones to try. I don't want a bunch of low-paying offers, but I have a feeling they might have more access to the jobs I would want.

I got a thanks but no thanks letter yesterday. Considering my interview was on the 7th, they must've decided it was a no go immediately. I wonder if the "assessment" test on the computer had anything to do with it. I don't understand what how many fiction books I've read in the last year has to do with me being able to do a job well. Hopefully, temping works out better for you then it has for me. I've registered with several temp agencies since October '06 and only two or three have called me with little bits of work here and there. I only have a couple more months on my unemployment. I've been thinking about doing retail if the situation doesn't change soon.

I finally got a call from my BESB counselor who apparently is trying to set up a job for me at the VNA (although I doubt he deserves that much credit because this was largely fueled by someone who works there). I had to listen to his nasal voice saying the same things OVER and OVER! Ugh. Anyway, I hope it turns out to be a decent job.

Yeah I will probably be doing retail really soon. Love working nights and weekends when everyone else I know works during the day.

I ran into someone I used to be friends with the other day. She was complaining that she only makes $17/hr and bragging about all the crap she gets away with at work. If I made that much money I would have no problem supporting myself. Just proves my point that the shady people are what companies are looking for.

You may want to consider getting a part-time volunteer position (in addition to an interim retail job) in the industry you want. This serves two purposes: you can get the experience you want and you would probably be first in line for any openings within the organization.

You either don't have enough experience, or not the right kind of experience. Most companies don't want to train you and are looking for someone with 3+ years of experience. Once you finally land a job it is probably not in your desired field and the pay isn't great so you either have to live with mom and dad or have roommates.

Perhaps college needs to be replaced with some kind of on the job training programs. Or more companies need to be willing to take on entry level employees. Something needs to change but I doubt it will.
Some updates...still no job...be back later.

Hang in there everyone!

1.) I had one for a job I REALLY would love on Thursday. It doesn't start until mid-August. The pay's not that great, but I think I would be very happy there. I emailed them to thank them (I met with two people) and the guy wrote back, "No, thank YOU! We'll be in touch soon!" please oh please oh PLEASE.

2.) Had another with this complete flake who played with her hair and chompedg um the whole time. It was for a theatre company and one of my good friends actually starred in a show they worked on, and I was planning on dropping his name in case I liked the place, and I really didn't...

3.) Had one yesterday, and I think it went really well, was in there for over an hour, BUT it is waaaaaaaaaaaaay uptown, making my bad commute even worse! I'd like to be able to walk to wherever I am working from my train station instead of taking another train, because that would be more time and another $70 a month!!!
