Does anybody know what a background check constituets? How far back do they go? and what specifically do they look for?

add me to the list!

i'm sending out resumes right now ... i'm applying to all the schools that have listings, and also the ones that don't.

have had two, 'you're a well qualified candidate and we'll keep your resume on file, but we don't have any openings right now.' emails.

i need to get on the stick and just send off my resume to all the schools in s.d. county i can find.

I had an interview today. My friend from college knew I was hunting and sent my resume to her HR head.

It went really well...but, honestly, I wasn't really feeling the company or the position. I'm a little nervous. I feel like I HAVE to take the offer if I get it. I told my friend that I wasn't sure if I was interested (she told me to be honest) so maybe that will be enough.

I just feel like I AM getting a good reaction to my resume and it HAS only been a month, so maybe I should hold out for something I really want. I didn't even apply for this job!

I have another one on Wednesday...

Also, a rant...I am on unemployment. I sent back a form and my resume a while ago, and I got a letter today saying I never sent it back and now I have to go meet them in person!

I definitely sent it in! I hope I can straighten it out tomorrow, because they want me to go all the way to Staten Island.
Good Luck everybody!!

okay so ...

what do you do when you have more than one place interested and still haven't heard back from a few places you've sent resumes out to and want to get the best deal salary wise and find the right place for you, etc.?

what's an acceptable stalling response/time, etc.?

(doing this all long distance)

i've gotten a response from one school that sounds very interested in me, but they are smaller and so may have lower salary and less benefits, but i also get a very good vibe from them and like the idea of a close knit school community (much like the one where i teach currenltly).

the other school is one where they are larger, have an amazing benefit package, likely a higher salary when i become a head teacher, but currently only have assistantship positions open (but on track to head teaching as some will retire soon). they want to know if i'm interested in that. i need to know what i'd be making and how long it would be before i were head teaching. is it too soon to ask that and how do i do it?

i have to consider salary because of how high the rents will be.

help!

All righty...

1.) A few weeks ago, I applied for a "assistant to major NYC author" position. I started having daydreams of how Danielle Steel and I would become BFF. Haha. I got a call for that job today, and it's actually for somebody I've never heard of. (And for somebody with as much bookstore experience as I am, that's saying something!) I might do a phone interview with his current assistant on Thursday.

2.) Interview on Thursday

3.) Another theatre company called me...to be an assistant for a puppet theatre company for a few months. Might just go for an interview because I am curious!

4.) Still feeling iffy about the job I went in for yesterday. I'm really not too interested, but also know it's a good job and company and I shouldn't be too picky. Oh, well...didn't get an offer yet.

5.) I'll hear back from the publishing house with the London businesstrips next week. (The woman's in London right now!)
okay so ...

I'm having a frustrating morning

Just feel like I'm going to go through what I went during my last jobhunt...two years and 9,000 interviews.

I don't want to go through that again!
CIB christine,

Just think, at least you are getting interviews!!!! That makes all the difference. There is hope.

I am waiting to hear from a job a recruiter submitted for me. After she submitted the resume, she made me change it because they said it didn't reflect "marketing experience" necessary for the job. She helped me make the changes so I'll see.

Another recruiter submitted for another job but pay is very very crappy so I am not sure am even interested. Either way I've heard nothing.

Great luck to everyone out there searching, especially Tygreyz who just needs one good break and one or two caring mentors to get her going in a strong new direction!

Congrats to PH on what sounds like a promising new gig

Thanks...I'm just feeling confused right now. I know I might get an offer from my friend's company, but I really am not interested, but feel like I need to take it if they do offer it.

When I got my job last year, I was SO SO happy and didn't have a single doubt about accepting it! I want to feel like that again!

I have two interviews tomorrow, and might have another one on Friday.

Other than that, my phone is once again silence and I'm ignoring it, or else I'll stare at it!

As for that newspaper company that I had a great first interview with and a so-so second...haven't heard back from them I called the HR lady. No word...which might be a good sign, because if I flat-out didn't get it, they probably would have emailed me...
Ok wow..just found out I'll be looking as well. It's kind of a surprise since I just started here a few months ago. Our company is very small though and seems to be very unprofitable..our investors are not giving the resources we need so my boss who hired me(also a former coworker's fiancee) just let me know today that he is starting to look for something else and this company might be shut down.

I'm in a little bit of a shock..I want to move to NYC or Miami ..been wanting to move for a few years and now would be the time. Lots of things to think about.
I'm sorry Josephine

You came to the right place for support! Hopefully, it is a blessing in disguise!

Scratch that, I only have one interview tomorrow! I thought this one place would take me tomorrow, but this is the exchange we just had:

CIBC: Hi, you called about my resume to schedule an interview...
Company: Can 'ya come in today?
CIBC: (thinks...um...it's 4:30...and I live quite a hike away) No...but I can come in tomorrow.
Company: We are booked tomorrow, Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Can you come in next Wednesday between 5 and 7?
CIBC: Sure...Wednesday at 5...

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeird.

Guess I have time to cancel it.
I'm sorry Josephine

Since I've been gone, several people have left, and my old friends there are telling me what a huge mess the office is.

I can be at peace knowing I have a kickin' resume and know that this company looks great on my resume and will hopefully find something good soon.
I am really giggling over the "assistant to the puppeteer" job that wants me to come in for an interview...(I reread the original ad...it said NOTHING about puppets! Just said a theatre/production company!)

One of the tasks was "dog-walking".

I wonder, is that a real dog or a puppet dog?!

I might go for pure curiousity!
