Which of us are job hunting?

It was actually Nickelodeon! (Not MTV!) The HR was on the MTV floor then they took me to Nick.

I'd be working VERY closely with a certain Ms. Dora the Explorer!

I can't believe how long companies take to make a decision. Who is doing the work for that position in the meantime?? Don't they need someone there right away? Baffles me.

well,

i had an initial phone interview today with one of the schools i sent my resume to (the small one). we hit it off very well, and i she wants to call my references and sent me a questionnaire to fill out, but i feel like the position is basically mine if i want it. the only trouble is that i have no idea what to ask for for salary. i know what i make now, but the cost of living is probably around triple there ... i'm waiting on a copy of the most recent salary survey from my professional association ...

i know it will likely be a lot less than the other place i'm in contact with (only hiring assistants, but on track to head teaching, much bigger school, mega great benefits, etc.), but they also seem a lot bigger and less warm and cozy than i'm used to (or wanting). they wanted to know if i was interested in an assistantship position, and i was frank and said it depens on the time frame for advancement and salary considerations. the salary is very do-able as an assistant, and if that's any indication of what i'll make as a head teacher (within a year or two if it works out), i'll be very happy with the potential salary.

have a couple more leads to follow up on as well ...

decisions decisions ...

Mayim can you look at the school's website and see if they have salary info on it? I know I used to see the salary ranges for K-12 teachers on the respective websites for Los Angeles area schools.

And even if you have accepted a job offer you can always accept another if a better one comes along.

Good luck.
I'm having a slight freak-out.

I ducked into an Internet Cafe right after my interview so I could email my thank-yous.

And I realized I got the woman's address wrong I used an underscore between her first and last name instead of a period.

Please oh please oh please...somebody reassure me that I just didn't blow my chances.
Why can't you just send it again to the correct address? Unless the have someone monitoring and forwarding misaddressed email, she won't get the first one.

She really seemed to like me, so I doubt she's all, "Well, I was going to hire her...but she didn't send her thank you note right away!"

i wouldn't worry too much about the thank you e-mail getting there 3 hours after the interview instead of an hour.

I used to snail-mail cards, but found that things move so fast that email is okay.
Yeah, I am searching. I was relying on my counselor from Services for the Blind to help a lot, but he totally sucks so I went the careerbuilder.com route. It is so awkward having to tell potential employwrs that I am legally blind because most people make a way bigger deal of it than it is. I am going to be careful to say "visually impaired" because when I say "legally blind" (to people in general) I think all that gets through is the word "blind" and then that is followed by several hard-to-answer questions. But, honestly, I'm not applying for jobs that I think are outside of my abilities, a lot of tasks can be modified... it shouldn't be much of a problem.

I really wish my counselor would get his head out of his butt and help more. I know, I know... I should call him and light a fire, but I HATE talking to him! He has such a nasal voice and repeats himself endlessly and he is just USELESS! He has been "working on" trying to get me this one job since NOVEMBER even though someone from that company asked about me specifically. Like, how hard can it be to get me in after that?

OK, sorry, that was long.

I have an interview on Tuesday with the American Red Cross. I'd have to move, but I'm okay with that because it would be closer to my family. The only issue I have with the job description is that it's a position that would require being on-call 24-hours a day, and the pay may not be comparable to what I'm making now (and I was really looking for an increase in my salary).

Quickcurl, how many hours are they asking you to work independent of the hours you are on call?
They weren't very clear on the phone about the hours. I'll have to ask about it at the interview.

Well, in either case good luck with your interview! I asked, because I was thinking that being on call would be awful, but if you were expected to work only a small number of hours per week that might make up for it...
If it was a small amount of hours, or if it was for only a week or a few days a month may not be such a bad thing. I just don't want to take something where I'm on call 24-7, 365. No no no no no.
