Default Christmas vs. New Year

Which do you prefer, Christmas (or equivilent) or New Year?

I like Christmas best, New Year depresses me for some reason.

I'm the same way. I find New Year's depressing. I don't know why, I just want to sit around and cry all day. Even on years where I've given big (great!) parties or had really fun plans, it just makes me sad.

Although I'm not a Christian and don't celebrate the religious belief behind it, I still love all the trapping of Christmas. From the holiday movies to the songs and all the decorations. One of my favorite times of the year.

New Year's. My wedding anniversary is New Year's Eve (11 years this year) and (unless dh and I have just been in a fight, which is rare but has happened) it's much more fun than Christmas. There are so many obligations to be fulfilled for Christmas but New Year's is more quiet and relaxed and we can do what we want.

I really prefer Thanksgiving though! It's more of a casual family get-together without the pressure to get perfect gifts for everyone. We can hang out and pretend we enjoy each other's company without getting quite so frazzled.

Hanukkah!

It last more nights, so there are fewer fights about which house I should visit from my control-freak family.

Though I do love Christmas Eve-since high school, I've gone to a friend's house for pierogies every Christmas Eve but the one I was in New Jersey.

Christmas! Although I hate all of the commercialism and buying presents for DH's family members that I don't like, I do love putting up the tree, spending time with family, all of the rituals, the cold weather, seeing family from other states, all of the yummy food, etc. Plus, I LOVE buying gifts for people that I love and seeing the look on their face when they open them.

Fourth of July. It's all about the fireworks, baby!

But for this poll I voted Christmas.

Oh yes, 4th of July!! I love fireworks, especially professional shows choreographed to music. I changed my Other vote to 4th of July. Then Halloween. Then Christmas. Hmmm, then Easter. I've never cared for New Year's not since I was little as it was an excuse to stay up all night. That's fun when your little and bedtime was 8:00.

In this poll i chose new years. I just love new years. However.. my favorite holiday is a toss up between halloween and labor day (for thats when we take our annual vacation)

But new years always makes me happy.

Giftmess? Eh.. I could deal without it thats for sure.

Actual favorite holiday is Halloween.

On this poll: Christmas. I like the decorations and the idea. Hate the commercialism (how original!), expectations, BS.

New Year's just means it's time to go back to work and a long stretch with no holidays.

I have many fond, fond memories of childhood Christmases. Not so many as an adult.

I chose New Years simply because it means that the Christmas season is over. I hate Christmas and everything involved.. I guess thats what I get for growing up in the Bible belt and never celebrating it...

Christmas. Eve over the Christmas day. My family always celebrated the most on the eve. New Years sort of depresses me too, not always, some years, like last it was welcome. But 03 was spent in South Carolina and no offense to S. Carolinians but it just never became home for me. So that year ending...at home, was really nice. Guess it depends on what happens that year.
