How many of you think this will work??!!

I thought and thought and thought and thought and finally I came up with what I think is a decent idea. I am going to be a "greeting card sender," be it sending greeting cards for companies, or individuals.

I have also been good at remembering birthdays, anniversaries and I love to card shop...so....I thought this will be a good way to go.

What do you all think?

I don't get it. People will pay you to buy greeting cards for them? Or to put stamps on them?
Madonna getting upset with her daughter for dressing too slutty is like Mr. T getting upset with his son for pitying too many fools.
PartyHair: hahahaha....Thank You for the encouragement! Your excitement is rubbing off!!

Mazey: To buy the greeting card, put the stamp and mail it...the whole deal.
I think you'll do well. People are so busy with there jobs right now, any kind of help they can get is appreciated. I assume there sending you a list of who to send the cards out too and you write them and mail them? Any service that will give people time to enjoy more of there free time I think does well.

A friend of my Dad's son puts up X-Mas lights for people. He charges $10 and hour to put them up (you supply the lights) and them people pay $10 an hour to come back after the holidays and take them down. He was making so much money, his Dad is now booking his holiday time around X-mas to help son out and there making a killing.

My Dad once said that he rather pay $30 to have someone change his oil in his car than do it himself, even though he can. He works all week and rather be out golfing or something on the weekends than changing the oil in his car or something.

Look at our own Jessicurl. She made a gel and posted the recipe, people didn't have time to do it themselves and offered to pay her to do it for them. She now has her own succesful business doing it.

Anything that can make people's lives easier I think will do well. Good luck to you.....who knows where it could take you!!!

CurlyCanadian: Yeah, it seems like people are just getting busier and busier nowadays. I don't think many ppl. like card shopping either. The biggest task is going to be getting the word out.

Is it legal to buy greeting cards from like Hallmark or somewhere to send for the companies or is that illegal? It seems like anything and everything will get you in trouble nowadays!!
What a creative idea!! Good for you!! I think it will work out great - plenty of busy people that would probably love to have someone to send out holiday cards for them.

Let us now how it goes...

Good Luck,

I think you would do great! It's ideas like that that are a different that usually are the biggest success. Go for it!!!!
Find something that people don't have time to do or that they don't like to do and do it for them and you will be a success. Sounds like you have the perfect formula. Good luck and let us know how it is going. I think this is something you can do all year by having a birthday/anniversary/ special occasion service where you remember for them and make sure it is taken care of. One step further.....send a gift too.

Hmm, I think you'll have to narrow your idea and perhaps target a specific market.

For example, I always thought that targetting men for their wives birthdays or Christmas and Anniversary gifts would be a good idea. Also single professional men that may want to also send cards/gifts/gift certificates to their neices, nephews, mother, sister on special days.

However, this is very easy to do on the internet now adays. You can go to Hallmark and send a card with a gift certificate for 100 of stores on line in an instant. Your idea is, however, do they remember? If your computer savy, you may already have it on your Outlook calendar to remind yoursefl to do it.

Also, with married couples it seems to be a the wife's job to send out this birthday cards to family members. So in this example you would be attempting to target a busy working women or a busy with kids stay at home Mom.

Me? I'd rather get a phone call and a "Happy Birthday" (which all my family does) then a card bought and signed by a stranger. But that is just me.

Good luck!
I am starting to forward flyers and try to market as best as I can. I am also thinking of adding a reminder service, where customers can choose to be reminded either by phone or email of all the important dates they need to remember but forget. ( Who can blame them? :P )

Thanks to those who posted and gave me their suggestions/opinions! I will keep you updated.

Good Luck with your idea but this is something I wouldn't go for.

If my husband can't pick a card for me himself and has a stranger buy it instead, don't even bother sending it to me. What's the point if my husband has a stranger pick out my anniversary card or gift? Maybe to some people it is a great idea and would work beautifully to have someone buy greeting cards for them, but wouldn't be for me.

This is a very good service to provide for professionals who don't have time or are habitually forgetful. They use it not just for family events but for business and social events. The anniversary of their client, birthday of client, etc.

The business I am familiar with offered the service of either simply a reminder - via email of the upcoming event, OR she would shop for the gift, wrap it and send it. She also made baskets and often the gift she made for the client was a personalized basket. This was when gift baskets were just taking off and were still sort of a novelty.

About the event reminder - there used to an internet business that I saw years ago where you put in your email address, filled out some brief information and the bot would send a reminder of the event to you. Lest you forget!

Good luck to you!

I think something like this works better with gifts, especially in the corporate world where people have to send dozens of gifts to clients at the end of each year. I'm really not sure if many people would pay someone else just to send out cards, whether it's to business associates or friends. It's worth a shot, though.
roseannadana: Thanks!

DeCurlo: The card picking is aimed more at companies to send to their clients. For individuals...it's the reminder of birthdays, anniversaries and any other important date they should/suppose to remember.

It's a great idea for the holiday season, mostly. A lot of companies have a "concierge service" that finds gifts or offers suggestions for gifts for busy business people.

My boss told me years ago that his local florist would get men's list (my boss didn't do this) of important dates and give them to him and he would automatically send flowers to their wives on those specified dates. The problem was one man came home from work, saw flowers and asked his wife, "who sent the flowers?"

One question: If you're sending cards to individuals FROM individuals, wouldn't the postmark look funny if you were living in New York and the postmark was from Chicago?

I heard of a service (years ago) that would re-send mail from any postmark in the country so that when that person sent something, it would be postmarked from wherever they wanted it to say.
