When you're Christmas shopping, do you...

buy a few things for yourself?

It's so hard to resist with all the sales!

But I think I'm going to re-read Confessions of a Shopaholic. :D

CurlyCanadian 12-14-2004 03:38 PM

I love Christams shopping, and all the "Girls" in my family are really close and have alot in common. So I tend to get them all the "perfect" gift (something I know they'll love) but then think how much I'd like it and wind up getting it for myself as well

Prior to this year, never. My financial advisor says we all have emotional issues with money. Mine were an inability to actually spend money on myself. I've gotten past that emotional issue, though, so this year there's more money being spent on me, and less on everyone else....

cmb4314 12-14-2004 04:03 PM

My birthday is in mid-December, and I always get birthday money when I see my relatives at Thanksgiving. So when I'm shopping for Christmas presents, it's really easy to justify buying stuff for myself.

Miscellaneous 12-14-2004 04:05 PM

I'm way too busy tapping myself out on everybody else's gifts. Even if I wanted to get myself something, my checkbook would turn me away.

Yes, always.

Especially since we are moving this week - too many cute things out there to pass up!

munchkin 12-14-2004 05:11 PM

If it's a really good sale, I tend to pick a few things up for myself.

Rain 12-14-2004 06:23 PM

Always! I will burn out on trying too hard to please other people. I need to take a little time (and cash) to please myself too. It's important for my health and well-being. I'm completely serious.

CurliLocks 12-15-2004 11:00 PM

I do sometimes. But I usually hand it over to hubby to wrap for me, becoming a gift from him and/or our little son. :D

PartyHair 12-16-2004 07:37 AM

I never do but not because I'm strong. I don't because we're on such a tight budget that I can't afford to buy Christmas presents and stuff for me. Heck, I can't even afford to buy stuff just for me ever - someone always gets priority, whether it's the niece, the husband, the cat, the in-laws, whomever. But it ain't ever me! :D

gemini 12-16-2004 09:05 AM

Yes, I do. I try to hold off until after the holidays when the really good sales kick in.

I also sometimes buy gifts taht I think I'd like for myself. I don't know what my MIL likes, but I took a gamble and bought a velvet throw in baby pink for her (and yes, I bought another for myself!) She is a homebody, so I am guessing she will like that.

I have been pretty good about not buying for myself this year--I ahve actually cut down on what I normally buy at any other time of year, so I think I've done better than usual. I am also done with my shopping, which is odd because I usually end up scrambling at the last minute. I actually started wrapping gifts yesterday.

Last year I didn't buy myself anything, but this year Maurice's was having a great Silver Jeans sale, so I bought two pairs of jeans, and got two shirts for 1/2 price off the summer clearence rack. Oh and a hooded sweatshirt because the weather took a turn for REALLY cold in the middle of the day, and my light 3/4 length tee was not enough! But that was all in one store, so not much shopping for myself. I spent $450 on everybody else though!

Every year I say I'm not going to buy anything for myself until all my shopping is done, then the first first thing I buy is usually for myself and it's usually worse if I'm shopping with my best friend (but that's what they're for).

badgercurls 12-16-2004 04:21 PM

I try not to buy myself anything when I'm Christmas shopping. Usually, money is pretty tight around Christmas, and my birthday is the day after Christmas, so I get a lot of presents at Christmas time.

I do have a blast shopping after Christmas, though! I always get a few gift certificates, and a few items I need to return, so I have so much fun buying things I liked while Christmas shopping at about 1/2 the price! Last year, I had to return 3 Gap sweaters that were too big, and I ended up getting 3 sweaters, a pair of pants, and a belt with the credit I got. :)

frau 12-16-2004 05:02 PM

never. i shop with a purpose to buy only what's on my list or else i'd get distracted and never get my christmas shopping done.

We have to reward ourselves with a little something for all of our hard work!

the doctor 12-17-2004 01:08 AM

Only if it was already on my list of stuff to get anyway. Like last week, I went to Michael's and got a little carried away buying baking supplies. But I have a Yalda party to go to on Saturday, put on by this one group, and every time they do a party I make them a cake and then they want a cake for the NEXT party so - I have an excuse! :) I got red, white and green edible glitter, I'm going to make a chocolate mint buttercream cake and put white trim and the glitter on it - the colors are for the Iranian and Kurdish flags, and also they're Christmassy! :)

Also, every winter I get myself a nice snazzy shirt to wear to parties. Found one this year that was made of black velvet burnout with silver accents, it's very pagan and very classy.
