Something is wrong with my lips..HELP - UPDATE
Yesterday I started having lip issues. They feel very dry, wrinkly, rough, numb and tingly. Occasionally they feel like they are burning. I have these puffy areas on both the top and bottom lips which make my lips look swollen. The puffy areas are slightly discolored (a shade darker than my lips) and have a few small bumps on them which could be why they feel rough.
I've done some research online and it could be, exczema, cheilitis, orofacial granulomatosis, melkersson-rosenthal syndrome, an allergy or who knows what else.
I was hoping it would go away overnight last night but no such luck. I am a chapstick addict but even with chapstick they still feel dry. I have not tried any new makeup or lipstick recently. The only thing I can remember eating, that I don't eat on a regular basis is some pineapple.
It isn't a cold sore. Ideas?

The acid from the pineapple might have created a reaction...

I get this type of reaction when I eat mangos, so it very well could have been the pineapple.

Take a little benedryl and see what happens (assuming you don't have reactions to benedryl).

Pineapple contains an enzyme called bromelin, which some people are sensitive or allergic to. It can make the lips or tongue swell or get little sores. The enzyme is inactivated by heat, so canned pineapple (which is heated in the canning process) doesn't cause this reaction.
I'm betting on the pineapple.

Do you remember how long it takes before this goes away?
What contains benadryl? I have robitussin, sore throat spray, sudafed, nyquil....do any of these have benadryl in them?

Benadryl is the brand name for products dealing with allergies, itching, etc. So no, those items you mentioned won't have Benadryl in them.
It should go away in a few days but the Benadryl could help with your lips feeling numb and tingly.

It usually took a day or two for the discomfort to go away, but my lips would feel rough to the touch for a few days after that.

I agree that pineapple is the culprit. LOTS of people are mildly or wildly allergic to it.
Benedryl contains Benedryl - it's an OTC allergy pill. It helps with skin allergies too. I get alllll itchy from oak down here and Benedryl keeps me from scratching holes in my skin.

The active ingredient in Benadryl is diphenhydramine.

Which is in lots of cold and allergy medicines. Anything that says it may cause drowsiness or is for night time use probably contains it. Check the labels.

It sounds like an allergic reaction, but you should definitely see your physician to make sure of what it is exactly to avoid it in the future and to treat the present symptoms and also to confirm that it's not something more serious like an infection.
Hope you feel better soon.

UPDATE
Well the problem has not gone away nor does it seem to be getting any better. I actually think it might be getting worse. I went to the doctor today and she didn't seem to know what it is either. She thinks it's an allergic reaction or cold sores. I know what cold sores look like and this isn't it. She gave me a prescription for prednisone and said if I develop cold sores to come back. Or if I experience any breathing issues to go to the ER.
It feels like I have a rash on my lips or that they are extremely chapped. My upper lip and part of my bottom lip is swollen. Brushing my teeth and eating causes my lips to sting. This is so annoying.

I didn't see my regular doctor and I didn't like the woman I saw. She was asking me if I had a fever, shortness of breath, wheezing etc... and when I said no, it's like she thought I was lying. Why would I lie? I want to get rid of this it is annoying the hell out of me.
I don't currently have insurance and she's like you didn't get a cobra? In a shame on you tone. Sorry I can't afford $300/month right now. Then I asked her about these weird spots on my arms and she's like well we can do blood tests but if it turns out to be vitiligo, you can't do anything about it anyway.
Some doctors suck!

That sucks. I hate bad doctors..especially since you spend so much money on em. Did you ask for a pharmacist's opinion? Did you try taking any benadryl or other antihistamines?

I took two benadryl on Tuesday night and one last night. I haven't been to the pharmacy yet. My lips hurt and I have no idea what to do about it.

You should ask the pharmacist. They can be very helpful. I might even go to a couple since the doctor didn't help.

Went today. I guess I'll fill the prescription and try that, continue to take benadryl at night and maybe buy some hydrocortisone cream. Unless I randomly developed an allergy to things that I have been able to eat in the past, it must be the pineapple. Or this isn't an allergy at all and that just means I have a bigger problem. Of course this had to happen before I go on vacation.
