Spinoff: Mexico--Where to Go
My husband and I are thinking about going on vacation in Mexico. I have enough miles for two free tickets. Where should we go? I've been to Puerto Vallarta and liked it. If there's a place you like to go, can you recommend a hotel?
Thanks!

Whenever I hear "Puerto Vallarta" I always think of The Love Boat. Helpful, aren't I?

Re: Spinoff: Mexico--Where to Go
It depends on what you like. Do you want to be around tons of other tourists, what activities do you like to do, etc?
Since you have been to Puerto Vallarta before I would choose another place in Mexico to visit.

I voted Cancun, but want to add that we went south of Cancun in the Riviera Maya area, specifically near Playa Del Carmen. LOVED it. That's the only location I've been to in Mexico- I'm sure the others areas are lovely as well.

Ditto. But, there are so many places to stay at in town. Lots of small, intimate hotels. I would go back to PDC in a heartbeat. Beautiful!

Good question, Cehua. We hate kids and we like to do all kinds of sightseeing and other activities. We like sitting by the beach or pool. We like to drink and eat. We also want a romantic place.

Hee. That made me snicker because when my husband and I vacation, we always look for places not loaded with children, or we'll go during off times when kids are in school.

I love Disneyworld, but I hate all the kids. They should have adult only times.

Mazatlan is less touristy than some other Mexican cities because it was a city long before it became a beach resort. It also has a lot of history. Local people and retirees live there—it is not just a tourist town like Cancun. My friend went there and loved it because it had amenities but was quiet and had great shopping.
I would do some online research based on what you want to get out of the vacation. Since you have options, I would choose any place but Cancun. And since you have been to Puerto Vallarta before why not explore someplace like Mazatlan or Cabo (I think there is a Cabo thread too).
Enjoy your vacation. :P

I vote for either Playa del Carmen/Cozumel or Acapulco!

I've been to Mazatlan and Cancun/Playa del Carmen. I loved both. Most of coastal/resort Mexico is nice. Just don't go back to where you have already been. Live on the wild side!!
Are you set on going to the beach? If not, Cuernavaca is really nice. I have spent my last few summers there. It's a weekend get away spot for the rich from Mexico City. Mexico City is also amazing. It would take weeks to experience everything that it has to offer.

Then definately look into Aventura Spa Palace, an all-inclusive, adult only resort (we honeymooned there the first week of April)

well, I can't vote... because I say go to zihuatanejo. It is the most amazing place in mexico so I have heard.... We almost decided on that for our honeymoon, but I couldn't talk SO into it wasn't like 'mexico' (ie, people begging you on the beach to braid your hair, etc)...
My friend Jim went their on his honeymoon and said it was the best place he had been in his entire life.. it is the 'Riveria' of mexico.
If you remember that movie "When a man loves a woman", it is the hotel that Andy Garcia and Meg Ryan go to on vacation when they are at that amazing hotel overlooking the water and she gets drunk and fall in on the row boat.
Seriously, I would go there... Cabo is fun if you are 22, Cancun is ok, the diving is good, but I would pick Cozamel over it... also, remember if you do Cancun the flight is MUCH longer then Cabo givin your Seattle location I assume- so if it isn't a long trip, the flight time would matter to me. The rest I can't speak too, but I get so annoyed in any place in mexico I have been that you get accosted even on private hotel beaches while laying out... that I won't go back.
This is my pick, consider me a pencil in vote

LOL! That's why when we go to a restaurant and the waitress asks if we want smoking or non-smoking, we always say "non-KIDS"! We usually are seated in the bar area after that request!
As for your original question....never been. Can't help ya!

Thanks, guys. I'm taking all this into consideration. I hadn't really thought about an adults only place, so I'll look into that. I also forgot about Cozumel--I have to see if Alaska goes there.

I voted Cancun because that's all I've been to in Mexico. I stayed here http://www.godreamvacations.com/Crow...iseClubCancun/ It was really nice, all iclusive. Right on the beach, lots of activites and places to go. I swam with the dolphins had a great time.

I think you still have to fly into Cancun. Cozumel is just a ferry ride across the way.
