Default I hate call waiting

I hate to call someone who has call waiting. I hate to be dismissed.

Me: Hello...blah bl...interrupted
Friend/acquaintance: Sorry, can't talk to you, I'm on an important call, I'll have to call you back
Me: OK (that's what I say, but what I think is "eff you, don't bother since you didn't even wait to find out if I was calling about something important, you just summarily dismissed me. Why bother answering? You have just been demoted to acquaintance.")

Honestly, how insulting. I'd rather get a busy signal or the answering machine.

I hate it too, but only because I'm a dolt and usually end up hanging up on one or both parties while trying to switch back and forth.

I have call waiting but I never pick up the incoming call. When I'm on the phone with someone, I'm on the phone with them. Not them and whomever is interrupting my call at the time.

Nothing bugs me more than when I'm on the phone with someone who constantly interrupts me going "Hold up. Hold up. Give me two seconds."

Seriously? What did we do before all of this technology came along? We talked to whomever we were talking to.

And I love how Verizon has that little "Riiiiiiing *beeep*" sound so people know when you're on another call and aren't answering for them. Very nice Verizon. Thanks a lot.

Another hater here!!!

What really pisses me off though is when someone calls me, then picks up another call. Especially customers.....drives me freaken insane!!!

I now give people enough time to say "Sorry, I'm on the other line, but I'll call you back later." then I hang up.

I don't even have call waiting on my phone. I find it so incredibly rude that I just don't ever want to be tempted to use it. Anyone who calls while I'm on the phone can go into voicemail.

I hate it too!!
There's no way I would ever want it on my home phone-- I find it pointless and rude

Yea, I've always hated it too. Very rude. In fact I hate talking on the phone in general. Yuck.

I do appreciate call waiting on my cell though. Simply because sometimes I'm "on call" for work and it's nice to see who is trying to call if I'm talking on the phone.

I don't have it and everyone gets mad at me when they try to call and are sent directly to my voicemail.

I don't mind it. It honestly doesn't come up that much, and when it does, people seem to get right back to me.

I suppose if they didn't, I would hang up. That hasn't happened, though, at least not in a while.

I think I have call waiting on my mobile, but I never use it. What I do, however, is ask the person with whom I'm talking to hold on sec while I look to see who's calling me. Then I call back the second person after I'm off the phone with the first person.

It does bother me when people with kids have whole conversations with their children while I'm on the phone with them. I am not someone who enjoys talking on the phone endlessly, so I doubt it's because I'm monopolizing their time.

Lately it seems they're more likely to tell the kids they're on the phone and they need to wait, which is how it should be.

When my daughter was young I felt as though it was important to have it in case she were hurt and wasn't home.

Now people know if they can't reach me on my home phone they can try my cell.

same here.

whenever i get put on hold for call waiting, i really try hard to stay on the line and not be rude...but if it goes on for more than a minute or two, i just hang up. if the other call is so important that they can't tell the person, "hey, i'm really sorry, i'm on the other line with someone else, can i call you back after?" then it will probably be a long wait. no sense in me sitting there with my phone to my ear listening to silence like an idiot.

That's the only reason I like CW. We never had it at home but just switched our plan to a cheaper rate and it was included. Figure, it was more before for basic phone without any bells and whistles, now it's less money for more stuff.

I don't know which is worse, interupting the current call, or answering only to tell that person that I'm already on a call. That's why I make it a policy to ignore that nasty cw sound. The only time I will make an exception is if I see it is my daughters' school. In fact, a few months ago that happened to my friend when we were chatting. Good thing she did check...the school was closing because there had been a bomb scare! Anyway, it used to drive my husband crazy that I won't use it, but he's gotten used to it by now.

It's been a long time since someone actually had me hold while they answered call waiting. When it first came out people did it all the time because it was new but I think most people know it's rude by now.

If, and this rare, I see a caller ID that I really need to take, I'll tell the person I'm talking to that "So and So is trying to call, so can I call you back?" But that would only be if I think the person "beeping" may have an urgent need to talk to me.

It depends on your phone habits and how you look at it. My friend used to find it insulting but now she finds it useful apparently since she uses it. l'll never understand why people find it rude. If someone tells me they'll call me back I'm flattered they even switched over to tell me that. If it's something I have to tell them quickly or vice versa then we talk for a couple of minutes. I'm a person who can talk on the phone for an hour at a time(about trivial crap) and I usually do on my commute home so it's important for me to have call waiting in case someone calls for an important reason or if it's someone I haven't talked to in a while.

I only switch over if it's my parents or someone that's hard to get a hold of by phone.

I think I have it on my cell but don't use it.

On our home phone we don't have it and we have a regular answering machine...if you call me at home and I am on the phone - you get a busy signal!!!! How about that??

But - my SO feels the busy signal does not really mean anything so when he gets it he will then call my cell phone which is in the depths of the closet in my purse so I hear it ringing while I am on the other phone. I have told him over and over - if the house phone is busy - I am on it - calling my cell phone is just irritating.

I have a strict double standard when it comes to CW. When my kids are yakking on the phone they must answer incoming calls. When I'm on the phone, I ignore all of them. Works for me! Turns out my kids mostly use their cell phones, so it's no longer much of an issue.

This is us too-- only its my in-laws who hear the busy signal and immediately call my husband's cell.

Grrrreat...so now we're both on the phone

I don't use it if I'm talking to my friends. If I'm talking to my Mom, I always say "Crap, I gotta get that, but I'll talk to you tomorrow". It's a life saver

My daughter is very seldom on the house phone, but I've heard her LIE about a call coming in to get off the phone! "Oh, my moms getting a call, I have to go".

It's included in my plan and unless I'm expecting a call back from my son's school or the doctor, I never take the other call.

Both my sisters are guilty of leaving me on hold. I do get a bit annoyed because if you're at work and are really that busy, then that's *not* the time to be making your personal calls.
