Adelaide is doing it too and I was going to join in. Now I'm going out and don't know what to do - I usually leave the lights on when I go out at night! Guess I'll leave them off. Ironically we're going to see a light show in the city!

?? Care to elaborate?
I work from home and have to work until 9 p.m. tonight, so I can't participate fully, but I can at least turn off all the other lights except for my computer and halogen desk lamp (very low energy usage anyway). And, we use fluorescent bulbs almost exclusively in our home.
Any excuse to light candles works for me!

the sun is just setting now here, so it won't be very dark in 20 minutes.
i'm hoping enough lights are off in the city closer to 9:00 and maybe i'll be able to see the stars.

Just talked to my Mom (just outside of Toronto) and she says the whole neighborhood is dark except 1 house!!
We still have another 1.5 hours to go, should be interesting!!!

So it isn't lights off in the entire world all at once? It's just 8:00 p.m. for your time zone?

Not at all. I had the same question when I first heard about it. It's just for your time zone. Sydney, Australia did it early this morning my time.
Although, the more I think about it, the more of a dumbass question it becomes.  And, I'm not even sick.

I think if they did it all at once, some people would be sleeping, some would be in the middle of the day and it would kind of lose the effectiveness!

We did it here in the country--- didn't make much of a difference though (pretty much as dark as it always is  )

The Golden Gate bridge is supposed to be dark here, and though I can't quite see it from my house, I can see all of SF from the end of my street, so that should be pretty cool if enough people and business participate. I may have to skip out on work to go check it out.
