Wow. I'm really overly cranky. This does not bode well for the poor guy I'm meeting up with.

Sooooo, new guy I'm excited about. He's a couple of years older than me and *sigh* he's adorable. Very tall (good body ), smart, funny, bilingual, fun and exciting job, family-oriented. All around it's looking good!

First date went very well, I think we had a lot of chemistry and there were no awkward silences. Seeing him again tonight, so we'll see what happens

One thing that's a bit annoying is, because of the nature of his job, he works a lot of weekends, so we can only really see each other during the week. It's annoying because it seriously limits us to what we can do if things go well. Like, on weekday evenings you can only really go for drinks or dinner, whereas on weekends you can do all sorts of activities.

I have said to him that if things progress with us he'll need to book me in on some weekends lol.

I am feeling very frustrated with dating and online dating right now. I've contacted guys, tried to have a more positive profile, and no dice. A few guys did email back and forth, but nothing ever came of it. (Have been emailing the past few days with one guy, but the "tone?" of his emails doesn't feel like anything will come of it). Of the guys I contacted, most of them had also shown some interest in my profile or I was interested after seeing their profiles. Specifically, one guy's profile I ended up seeing because he made me a favorite; so I emailed him in an attempt to get something, anything of a conversation started. . .3 weeks later and no response.

I feel like I know how to do or go about doing so many things, but dating is one of those things that just make me feel so totally inept. How do you move from website to real life? After a few emails? When it feels right? What about giving out personal information, like phone numbers or email? Is it really all that stimulating for the woman to contact first? How do you even get a response?!? Ok, rant over.

If you're not getting enough guys reaching out to you, you probably need better pics. And to join better/different sites. Are you on a paid site? You might also want to focus on one geared towards Black ppl (if you are Black...which i'm thinking you are??).

You might also consider showing us what your profile/narrative says so we can give you suggestions...or consider paying someone who does that professionally.

Also, don't let this be your only option; try speed dating, asking friends to introduce you to ppl and spending time in places where single men go.

It's sporadic really; he does stuff for movies / TV and he has to travel, so if he's working on the weeekends he'll be on location more than likely. If not, I don't think he finishes until really late (11PM or so).

I think it balances out because, as far as I'm aware, he doesn't work every day during the week.

@lolo918 I get your frustration. What's your profile like? Maybe you could paste it here? Could be you're not coming across as to 'approchable' in it or something?

With the adding as a favourites, I get about a dozen of those notifications a day and none of the guys ever message me. I just think they do that to girls they think are goodlooking, and just scroll through a bunch of profiles, clicking that button, not thinking much of it.

How do you approach these guys when you message them? Are you light-hearted / comedic? Do you comment on something on their profile, using whatever they've mentioned as a conversation-starter or a way to show you have things in common? I get the most responses if I initiate conversation with making a funny comment about something on their profile.

Or are you a simply 'hey how's it going?' type of person? If it's the latter, perhaps they're the type of people who don't respond to those messages. I don't tend to repsond to those sorts of messages either, as I assume they haven't read my profile if they can't think of something more interesting / conversational to say.

Moving from website to real life / giving out numbers, it's normally just when they ask. If they say 'can I have your number?' and I feel like we're getting on well, I'll say yes. Same with meeting up. It's normally a few days to a week before I give out my number, and maybe a week-2 weeks before we meet up.

This will be my last post on this thread for a while because I did a lot of thinking last night and I decided that I need to take a break from dating in general right now. My heart just isn't in it right now, probably because so much of my life is up in the air right now. Now I just have to break it to the guy I saw last night...

That may explain about the favorites thing, which sucks but now I kind of have an idea. When I message, I always mention what about their profile made me want to get to know them better or ask a specific question about something in their profile outside of the intro- Hi my name is Lori, and how are you? For instance, this current emails started when I asked if his tagline was in reference to 'You've Got Mail".

I am a bit of a country girl, and I love doing things outside. I've been a runner since high school- I'm slowly getting back from some tendonitis at the moment so it's been slow going. I also love to hike and I love how I feel after I do yoga. I have been on a mission to make myself do more yoga, and be more consistent with lifting as this makes for a more well-rounded amount of fitness. I'm ok with swimming for fitness, and cycling but I don't do either of those as often as I would like.

Indoors, I love to read fiction, and reading to learn about new things. Right now this focus has been on using my chemistry knowledge to further understand taking care of my curly hair (plus it looks nice the more I learn). I have also taken on an herb garden, some flowers, learning about beekeeping, and helping in my parents vegetable garden this summer which has been very rewarding.

-I've done quite a few edits on this. Adding, taking out, making it more compact, and attempting to stay positive in my "tone". In all honesty, I'm not sure what to really say, and my favorite guy profiles actually ramble a little about not really anything. I do know that I am not completely sold on this person who comes through my profile either- I just have to have something so I can't leave it blank until inspiration hits.

Yeah, agree it's not bad but it is a bit long-winded. Spiderlashes is right with the shorter, more concise and fun sentences.

If it's of any interest, this is mine:
Future novelist (let's hope). Amateur foodie. Professional gin-taster (if only). Family-orientated.

I'm Greek, Italian, German and English (I can definitely speak one of those languages).
I'm easygoing, ambitious and funny (you'll learn to think so).
I absolutely rock at Mario Kart (challenge me at your own risk).
I love theme parks (so need someone to go on all the hardcore rides with me).
Michael McIntyre is my favourite comedian (I may quote him sometimes. I apologise in advance).

I'm a bit of a book nerd, with a passion for writing. Right now I work as Proofreader / Copywriter, which means I make a living correcting people's mistakes! But I run a book review blog and I'm actually hoping to eventually sneak my way into the editorial side of publishing.

Music: Awolnation, George Ezra, The Family Circle, Bastille, Kodaline, Imagine Dragons, The 1975, ACDC, Arctic Monkeys, The Silent Comedy, Jack Johnson, Biffy Clyro, One Republic, Of Monsters & Men, Lloyd Yates and Vance Joy

It's quite short and snappy with lots of mini-sentence and bullet points, rather than long explanations. I need to change it up a bit, but it's served me well so far lol.

Agreed not bad. It reads more like you are meeting with your trainer for the first time and telling him your current workout routin, LOL.

things I would add
- humor
- What types of fiction you enjoy? I can try my hand at writing something once I get a sense of your style.

things I wouldn't mention
- I wouldn't mention ailments (tendonitis). As innocent as it is, I don't think that would be a turn-on
- Using chemistry for your hair. We get it. They won't
- your parents. you can mention family but maybe not your parents

How about this:

"I am a bit of a country girl, and I love doing things outside. I like running , hiking and yoga (it's my new happy pill)."

"Ok, so I enjoy beekeeping. I know, I know it's not something to hear every day, but that's me. I love to try to new things and learning is something that never gets old with me. And no, I don't wear one of those funny hats."

Agreed. And you can keep things like chemistry in there, I would just add some humor.

I think I mentioned this before. but I wanted guys to know that I like to travel and I have degrees. I just didn't want to sound like a snob so I worded it something like this.

Life lessons:
Don't eat get the hotdog at the top of the Eiffel Tower. Just trust me on that.

or

I have a Masters in Business, but it was really just an excuse to travel where I learned very important lessons such as don't get mustard on your hotdog while at the Eiffel Tower. Better, yet, don't order the hot dog. Just trust me on this this.

I would leave the chemistry part in there too. I would think that you are highly intelligent. But then pairing that with hair - a previous poster got it right.. guys don't care... plus I think it takes away from your intelligence if you're comparing it to curly hair. I guess you could say something like.. I like to find practical uses for my knowledge in chemistry, like trying to figure out this curly hair on the top of my head. Like scrills said, say it in more of a humorous way of sorts.

If not, I guess you could fill up the space w/ a general description (everyone wants to feel like they're exactly what you're looking for!). Resist the urge to list a bunch of dealbreakers; instead, mention a few of their opposites in the description of what you want.

You can also name a few of your favorite places around town (parks, sights, restaurants, beaches, bars, etc.) Easy conversation starter and freebie suggestions for dates.
