it's been an interesting few weeks on PoF for me.

for starters, i put back the sexy photo as my main profile pic (some of the over-40 forumites will understand what i'm saying) - and to say my view rate has gone up would be an understatement. it has also elicited a lot more email.

including one last night from someone who took it upon himself to analyze ALL of my profile pics!

he didn't say anything *bad* about any of them, it's just weird. and i'm not sure how to respond.

and i suddenly have all these guys from far away (like one back in Ottawa) who seem to think that distance shouldn't be a problem - even though my profile states upfront that i want someone local because i don't drive.

the second guy that i had a date with last month has turned weird - for someone who supposedly isn't interested in anything serious, he is acting like a teenage girl. as in:

oh, i see you're going to the St. Patrick's Day party next Friday, would you mind if i was there?

it's a publicly posted event, WHY would i mind if he was there? what's next? who am i going with?

*sheesh*

it's never a good sign when someone's first email to you includes the line:

"you work for the government, i hope it's not the collection department".

so i wrote back:

as a matter of fact, i DO work for the Ministry of Revenue. and while there are 32 collectors in my office, i personally babysit the retail sales tax auditors.

what do you want to bet i don't hear back from HIM?

"J" met my father for the first time, albeit under serious circumstances. My dad is in the hospital because of chest pains and because of that, I told "J" I couldn't come out his way like planned(which is 100+ miles away) because I wanted to be close in case I needed to be. He decided to come on my end and look after me(my anxiety has been on HIGH) and took me to the hospital. I can tell my dad likes him. It was like I almost wasn't in the room.

Two computer geeks in a room together talking.....geek stuff. LOL!

He even told my dad, "If you need anything, don't hesitate to call me," when we were leaving.

Anyway, his presence DEFINITELY calmed me a bit as I had been very stressed over the last two days. He's a doll for being there. I REALLY appreciated it. More than he probably realizes.....

eccentric_kurlz that is great! to me that's the good stuff about relationships, someone who is there for you when things are tough. it's not just about amazing dates and all that jazz. i hope your dad gets better and things with your guy keep going well.

luvmylocs....My dad is doing better. He has to have surgery next week but is being his normal self. He'll never let you see him sweat unless he's REALLY concerned. And yes, it IS great when you meet someone who has your back. So used to dealing w/folks with their hands out; not used to him always saying "we" and not "me" or "I".

Well, my sister signed me up on match.com for my birthday and finally met a guy last night. It was a bust!

We talked on the phone, he seemed really nice, and I told him we were heading out to a local bar to play cards and he agreed to meet there. When he walked in, I started asking him stuff, trying to make small talk, and could NOT get him to say more than two words to me. After a few minutes, he said he needed to use the bathroom. Well, he calls me from the parking lot, apologizes, and says he's heading home to get some sleep. WTF!!

Another guy asked if he could call me. He texts to say hi, and proceeds to ask me how I feel about drinking and premarital sex. UGH. Are my standards too high?

wtf?!?! i wouldn't let two bad matches scare you off - there are some decent guys online, but sadly you often have to filter through some creeps/weirdos to get to them.

Regular dating is fraught with asshats. Online dating, doubly so.

You'll need a thick skin to get through it. I don't really have one, which is why I've never done much of it. But the other part is, you really should be online dating and shaking up your regular social life at the same time. Do not put your eggs in one basket.

it's online dating - men find that to be like a candy store - and there's always something around with prettier packaging.

Rou, I hear ya! All of my potential men seem to have disappeared as well. I find this to be pretty common with online dating and I'm not sure why, but it frustrates the heck out of me!!
