The Official Online Dating Diaries Thread

It was a good time! He's not my "type" but clearly, my type hasn't been working for me up to this point so...

He's a good-looking guy, good job, no obvious warning signs, very polite and complimentary, we had good conversation, he seems interested, I'm not sure how I feel... I did tell him it was my first date from online and thanked him for making it a pleasant, comfortable experience.

He texted me this morning to say he enjoyed meeting me and hoped to see me again. We'll see. I'm not jumping into anything but am trying to keep an open mind and give people a chance.

Good luck on your dates!
I saw this thing on Gawker and I'm think about signing up. idk

let us know if it works at all.

i tried Gelato last year and they work through your Twitter and/or Facebook accounts, but there was no one in my age range or location so it was a total bust.

OK, I've bitten the bullet and am going to have a go at online dating.

I have no idea what to put in my profile though. I need to do something about 100 to 150 words and cannot think what to write in it.

Any advice?

the thing that has helped me most is that i DO NOT post a laundry list of what i'm looking for in a man. i talk about myself and what i like.

i get a lot of compliments from men on my profile - not a lot of dates, that's another story altogether!

Why am I coming to a complete blank whenever I try to write my profile? Am I that boring that I can't even write a 300 character profile about myself?

people are often uncomfortable talking about themselves. if it wasn't for the fact that i've been doing online dating *forever*, it would be hard for me.

when it comes to blowing my own horn in covering letters with a résumé, i have a LOT of trouble!

do you mind if i ask which site? some have been accused of faking interest in order to draw people in.

totally forgot about this thread and the Gawker dating thing, lol. I'm kinda wary now because of the hacking issues that happened last month.

no, that's usually a function of the pay sites to keep you paying. the free ones like PoF and OK Cupid don't need to do that.

PoF is pretty good about only showing you results from people who have logged in recently, but OK Cupid - well, my best matches are people who haven't been logged in for YEARS!

yeah... i know. what's the point of showing me a profile of someone age-appropriate with similar interests when his last log-on was November 2006?

I keep messages from men who write in test message code. I refuse to answer them. If someone is that interested, they could at least use real words.

Also, even though it's sort of anonymous I've still got to work up the nerve to message a really nice looking and sounding man I've seen on there!

*must stop being a wuss*

you're not alone, laura.

since PoF started the "Meet Me" thing, i've had some interest shown by some really handsome men. i just can't bring myself to write to them.

i'm pretty sure they didn't read my profile and just clicked "yes" based on the photos.

Do you ever wonder if some of the photos are of the actual person? I've seen some and thought, that's not a real life photo.

oh yeah! there's one photo that i've seen on at least 3 different profiles. someone outed one of the guys using the photo on the over-45 forum because it's some actor on a show she watches!

No matter, I'm sure they are just as fabu!
laura, if PoF says that someone was online today, they were indeed online *today*!

(yes, Wile E, my profile pics are mostly the same ones.)
