Quick help with Amazon, please...

I am majorly po'd. I bought a very hard-to-find book on Amazon a few days ago. The description clearly stated it was used, but in "like new" condition. I paid $59 dollars for it, when a brand-new edition would have cost about $65 (the brand-new edition was sold out...hence my need to buy used).

I got it today and it is full of writing. It's in pencil, but I am still furious. I want to write to the seller and complain but I can't find the original description of the item anywhere. It doesn't show up in my order summary or on my invoice. How can I prove that the seller told me it was "like new"? Does anyone know where I can find this info on Amazon's website?

Ouch! Good question. I'll poke around and see what I find.

Looks like your best bet is to contact Amazon via "Help." I checked to see if they had a specific "not as promised" option, but "defective" may be as close as you'll come. Either way, they should be able to recall (via their computer system)the description of the product which misled you.

I would, if I was annoyed. You paid darned close to a "new" price, and deserved better quality. Humphf!

So I'm not sure if I should just complain and leave bad feedback, or if I should try to get some of my purchase price refunded.
Love your avatar, by the way. I wonder what Jim Anchower would do in this situation?

If you complain, they might do a partial refund if you keep the book.
I don't know whether this will help, but I have always had great luck buying used and out-of-print books from here:

I agree that you should see how far you can get with Amazon. Sorry you had a bad experience. Good luck.
Can you go to your History menu and find the URL of the web page it was on? On my History menu, I can sort by date visited. Start there.

Go to "Your Account" and click to see your recently shipped orders. Click the button for "View Order." It will show you the item (though not the description of the condition) and there is a button there for "Problem with this order?" Click on that and it will give you all the steps -- contact the seller first about the problem, and then if that doesn't work, you can file a reimbursement claim with Amazon.

Edited to add: I once received a CD that played but was not in "Like new" condition as described, the cardboard case was very beat up. The seller refunded my entire price and didn't ask me to return it. I think it's quite possible that the seller will give you at least a partial refund on the book. It wouldn't hurt to give it a try. Some of these sellers do a lot of business through Amazon and will go pretty far to avoid a negative review.

That's happened to me a few times. When you order a used book through Amazon, you get two e-mails: one from Amazon and one from the seller. Occasionally, the one from the seller will include the posted description of the book. Do you still have that e-mail? The last time this happened to me, I sent the e-mail back to the seller and he refunded the whole price of the book without my having to send it back (although it's so ugly and beat up that I wouldn't mind getting rid of it).
