Being less emotional

Is it possible to develop a thicker skin and be less emotional? I'm overly sensitive, and I hate it. How do you become less sensitive?
I think you need to understand why you are so sensitive & what you are so sensitive about. You're not giving a lot of info here.

I am an extremely unemotional person, almost cold at times. I used to be hyper-emotional, cried all the time, feelings got hurt at the least little thing, you name it. Then one day I got in a car accident that turned my world upside down and I suffered from PTSD for a long time. It broke me, literally. After I recovered I felt like I had no emotions left. I'm better now but I have acquired nerves of steel, and I rarely cry.

I'm not suggesting that something terrible needs to happen to you in order for you to become desensitzed, but in all actuality it does help. Once something REALLY serious has happened...the little things in life that get you emotional, like an argument or even just losing your car keys...well, they just don't seem to upset you as much.

Move to a big city and get kicked around a bit. That did it for me.
I've gotten much thicker skin with maturity.

In my 20's, you could look at my cross-eyed and I'd analyze it for two weeks.

Now that I'm almost 40, not much rocks my world any more.

But being sensitive isn't always a bad thing.
Depends on what you're referring to...

How old are you? You don't have to give an exact age if you don't want.
It's always taken a lot to make me cry but I've always been super sensitivitive about how my actions affect others. I still find myself overthinking what I say and do. I don't know the exact time that it changed. I just one day didn't have time to care about what people would think of me.
I guess one day you'll become okay with who you are. You'll accept the fact that you make mistakes b/c you're human and the best you can do is apologize for it and learn from your mistakes. You can surround yourself with people who love you for who you are. Be merciful and gracious to others when it's wise to do so and when you fall pick yourself up and keep living. You may always be a sensitive person to a certain extent but that doesn't mean that it has to define you if you don't want it to. You are in control of your feelings. I'm sorry about this being so long. I know what it is to feel out of control because of sensitivity taking control of my life.

Getting older, and graduating from the school of hard knocks toughened me up, bigtime. I'm not sure I would recommend either of those routes though. I have really thick skin now, and not much can hurt me. That's both good and bad, depending on the situation.

I am not sure..I had a mean mom so that did it for me mostly(I think). My sister thinks I have no feelings even though that's not true. Nature has a lot to do with it too so not sure if you can change it completely.
When someone does something that bothers you, look at why they are doing it (fear, ignorance, past issues) instead of how you feel. It's my way of

"dealing with the sickness instead of the symptons"
