Intestinal flu (stomach flu) isn't actually the same thing at all, is it? I don't think the vax helps with that.

I never get the vax, and neither do my daughter and husband. I did have the flu last year and it sucked, but they didn't get it. She's not in preschool or day care, I don't work, and my husband works at home. We are all handwashing fiends and I use a cart cover for her when we grocery shop (yeah, laugh, but she's nearly three and she's had one cold. ROTTEN allergies, tho).

Nope. I've never had the flu. Lots of people around me have and I still don't. Not fixing what's not broke.

I did, because I have a little one and my doctor suggested it (I also have two big performances over the winter and will take any chance I can not to be sick for them.)

I say thank but no thanks.
I only had the flu once. It was pretty bad, I was in bed for 4 days but they have that new medicine for the flu so I will take my chances. I'll just take the medicine if I get it.

Correct, the vax helps with influenza, not rotavirus (or norovirus).

Anyways, all four of us get the flu shot. My husband is immuno-compromised, so the risks of him getting sick (and sicker than the average person) are always higher. My son has a history of asthma and croup, so anything to keep us out of the ER. I know that the shot isn't 100%, but I do think it helps a little. I also try to REALLY push hand washing and all of that junk, and that helps a lot too.

Healthcare worker with asthma - so even though I have to PAY for it, I'll be getting it.

As for tamiflu, it's a wonderful idea, but when I had the flu last year (one of my friends was kind enough to run the rapid flu test for me and verify it..hahah), it started as a little postnasal drip and a funny feeling in my trachea/chest that SORT of felt like bronchitis. I had that for about 36 hours before it really hit me. At that point, the doctor's office was closed and I couldn't get a script for Tamiflu. So I ended up battling the whole damn thing out.

I won't be getting a flu shot. I got one once, back in like 1994 or something like that, but I haven't gotten one since, and that included the 5 or so years that I spent flying weekly.

Now that I work at home all the time I have even less reason to get one.

I know it's a crap shoot as to which strains are included in the vax, but the kids and I are all getting it. If I didn't teach, I wouldn't get it, but my students (especially residents) are just walking germs.

I've never gotten the flu shot & I can't remember the last time I had the flu, so NO, I won't be getting one.

I'm getting one. But I also hedge my bets by using a neti pot every day, washing my hands a lot, taking a daily probiotic, and taking vitamins and Airborne.

You don't have to go to the ER for a flu shot. You can get them at lots of places. You can locate them online -- states may have an on-line clinic locator. Or check Walgreens, CVS, Target, Walmart, local supermarkets, local towns, etc.

People were talking about having to go to the ER if they get the flu, not to get the shot.

I'm getting one. I tutor elementary school kids part-time, and last year, I got every little ailment that one of them had, including strep throat.

Does a neti pot help with allergies and sinus problems?

this means you're going to get one and tell everyone that you didn't, right? XD

i'm not a big fan of vaccines...or needles in general.. and honestly at my age the flu is not going to kill me. so i think i'll pass.

Not only do I loathe shots, but I almost never get the flu. I get a cold from time to time, mostly having to do with weather changes, but full blown flu? Not so much. So no.

My husband works with special needs kids, so he might.
