Default Smokies trip photo update!

As promised, here's a few pics from me and SO's backpacking trip to the Smokey Mountains a few weeks ago:

And for your viewing pleasure, I've included some BONUS pics of our cat's "birthday" (we actually found him and took him in, so it's more like his "found day"). Oh, how I love torturing our little buddy:

Love this one-- his face is so "You will pay!"

Wow, he looks so happy in this one!

Here's a link to the fotki page if the photos don't show up.

Enjoy!

I'm glad you had a good time. Were you on the AT at all? I think I recognize the view in the 1st pick, is it near the N/E end of the park?

Lovely pics. I love the Smokies. One day I will just wander in there for a month.

Actually that pic was taken from the west end of the park-- near the Cades Cove area. Same mountains, just the other side.

And we were just a hop, skip, and a jump off the AT. We were there on a weekend, so we tried to avoid the most popular trails. Instead we went up Rich Mountain and camped at the top, then came down the next day. We only saw a handfull of people, which was great! It was a short loop, but we got started pretty late cause we had to drive from Asheville through all the traffic in the park.

You had nice clear weather. Every time I've been to the Smokey Mountains, they've been...well...smokey. I'm told there are lovely views, but they were quite obscured by fog.

Wow! So envious. I didn't get out nearly as often as I would've liked this year.

The scenery is spectacular. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, the day definitely didn't start out that clear. We were driving over the Blue Ridge Scenic Parkway and it was so cloudy/foggy and a bit rainy. I was sorta bummed since there were so many overlooks along the way, but we couldn't see anything! It eventually cleared up and the pics above were taken late afternoon on our first day or late morning the next day.

Here's a few pics of our first morning driving over the mountains:

Nope, we didn't see any bears, just a few deer. However you could definitely see the presence of bears around the bear poles... some were really banged up! I guess it's possible that bears came into camp while we were sleeping, but we cooked/toileted/hung our packs really far away from our tent.
