How much water do you drink daily?

Do you do it purposefully, with water bottles? Go by thirst? Do you count "flavored water" as water?

I don't count. I drink to satisfy my thirst. The notion that you must drink a certain amount of water to be healthy is false. The notion that it MUST be water rather than other liquids is also false. Our bodies have a very good mechanism to let us know when we need liquids...it's called thirst. Our bodies also get fluids from some foods that we eat, and that counts towards our fluid needs also. This is scientific fact. Anyone who tells you otherwise is spouting falsehoods, often unknowingly. The misinformation out there about drinking water is quite ridiculous.
Most of the liquids I drink is water. I only drink when I am thirsty. I don't force myself to drink more. I agree with RCW.

I drink more than 8 glasses a day. I don't really count, either. I have a PUR pitcher I just bought a few weeks ago and a 20 oz refillable bottle I probably fill up 2-3x while at home. I work out 3-4 days a week and on those days, I drink at least another 20-30 oz. I drink probably 3-4 10 oz glasses at work during the day too.

I'm torn on the whole water issue. I don't think going purely by thirst is sufficient. "They" say that most people go around mildly dehydrated, and I honestly believe that to be fact. In the past, I drank no water. Absolutely none. I would joke that the only water I got was whatever I swallowed while brushing my teeth. I didn't feel thirsty at all, but once I started drinking water and got used to it, I felt soooo much better and now I crave it. If I go without drinking water, I DO feel thirsty. So who knows.

I don't totally buy that we should drink x amount of glasses per day to be healthy, but I do think most of us would benefit from drinking more water.

I only count water as drinking water, but since I don't really count, it's kind of a moot point. Hee. I think the general rule is anything without sodium or caffeine can be "counted" as water though, right? So flavored water, crystal lite, herbal tea, and milk would all count, yet soda/pop wouldn't. That's my understanding of it, but I could easily be wrong.
I drink a lot of water from water bottles. I usually have a bottle at my desk that I refil and I take one to school. I like water. Makes me happy.

I don't really understand flavored water. I see labels that say only 50 calories, with all the benifits of water! I'm kinda like wow. Water has NO calories, AND all the benifits of water.

A good (but old) book on your body's need for water is "Your Body's Many Cries for Water". Someone gave it to me about 10 years ago after I had been suffering for 2 years with various stomach problems. I followed the advice, which says that you should be drinking 1/2 ounce of water per pound of body weight per day. So if you weigh 120 pounds, you should have 60 ounces of water a day. My stomach problems cleared up within days, literally.

I've seen that formula many times since --most recently in a book on weight loss that I have been reading.
I drink anywhere from two to four quarts of water a day. Why? I work in a kitchen. We use quart containers for drinking, and trust me, when you're standing in front of and around 500-degree ovens, twelve burners, and a grill, you can easily down two quarts of water in no time.
When I'm not at work, I drink less, but I do think that if I went strictly by thirst, I wouldn't get enough some days.
I also don't drink soda, coffee, tea, or alcohol. Never on soda, and VERY rarely on the others. It's pretty much water and a smoothie of some sort once in a while.

I drink one huge glass when I first get up then switch to black coffee. I drink maybe 3 cups of coffee in the morning. Not the giantico upsized cups but smaller mug sized.

I switch back to water and drink that all afternoon. I drink a glass or 2 of wine at night but I accompany it with water. I drink 1 or 2 diet pop a week.

I voted 8+. I used to drink less. I have found since increasing my intake I get fewer headaches and stomach problems (cramps, indigestion, etc.).

I have to make myself drink. When I work, I bring a 40 oz bottle of water with me and sip from it all day. I'm really bad on the weekends when I don't have a routine because I just forget to drink. Yesterday was a perfect example. I started getting a headache and feeling dizzy and realized that all I had to drink all day was a cup of coffee in the morning. This was around 4 pm! My thirst mechanist just doesn't seem to work until it's too late.

During the week I do pretty well; usually at least eight 8 ounce servings. I have a half liter bottle I refill two or three times a day at work. At home I do horribly. I almost never drink water at home.

Whether the amount of water we're told to drink is a fallacy or not, I certainly feel overall better when I drink water, and it curbs my appetite as well. They say a lot of people mistake thirst for hunger these days, and rather than quenching their thirst they eat, lending to the obesity problem. I know when I drink more water, I eat less and my weight tends to drop a bit. And for me that's a good thing. I also find the more I drink, the more I crave.

During the week, I drink about 80 ounces of water. On the weekends, barely any. I just don't have a proper weekend routine. During the week, I have a 32 oz water bottle that I sip on all day and refill. I don't plan to drink a certain amount of water. I just do. I think I feel better when I drink more rather than less. I don't really drink anything other than water. I started that habit when I couldn't figure out why I kept getting bladder infections. It didn't help but it seemed like a good habit to keep.

I drink water and tea during the day to keep myself hydrated and prevent false hunger. Sometimes when I think I am hungry I actually need liquids. Other liquids I have are coffee and soup. They do not keep me hydrated but will prevent hunger.


I do not rely on thirst to drink liquids because by the time you are thirsty your body is already dehydrated. It is better to have liquids throughout the day instead of relying on thirst because for some people the thirst mechanism does not kick in until they are extremely dehydrated.

The idea that you MUST drink 8 glasses of water a day is completely untrue. A basic anatomy and physiology class will teach you that in no time. I drink only when I feel the need. This is with meals and snacks. The only time I will drink more is during the summer when I am on the farm and I sweat a lot.

Right now I'm drinking 8 glasses a day because I'm having some digestive issues. Normally I try to make an effort to have at least 6. If I went by thirst, I'd maybe only have one drink a day. I don't care for liquids in general. I'm much more of an eater and I don't get enough water unless I make an effort.
I'd say I probably drink about 6 glasses of water a day. According to my refrigerator, they're generally around 7 ounces.

But, I only drink when I'm thirsty or eating. I like water, but not enough to drink 8 glasses a day if I'm not thirsty for it.

I put 8 or more. I don't count, but I keep a water bottle at work, and refill it throughout the day. I love water! When I drink a lot of water, I don't feel the need for sodas and other sugary drinks. I drink a lot of herbal tea also.

I don't think anyone should force themselves to drink 8 glasses a day, but they should make sure they are adequately hydrated. Dehydration can cause fatigue, headaches, lightheadedness, and more. So I think water is important. It's good for digestion and flushing toxins from your body and to keep all your organs working properly. I think too many people drink too much sugary drinks which cause health problems. Water is just better for you.

I voted for 8+ glasses. I love water! I drink a little coffee, tea, and OJ, but otherwise, I drink water all day. I got in the habit when I used to work out. Now I drink a lot to keep headaches away. I don't have a set amount I have to drink, but I usually feel better when I drink more.
