Have you ever had a pelvic exam? If not, it might be time to do that. You might have an obstruction, like an extra flap of hymenal tissue or something. You really should be able to use a menstrual cup, even as a virgin. My young teen daughter has no trouble.
No. You don't get them until you are 25 over here. I probably exaggerated a little on the brick wall thing. I've used a tampon before fine (though only twice and while it was perfectly comfortable I don't like them) but can only get the very tip of a diva cup in. I may buy some lube or something and try some different folds first and then if I'm still having issues go get things checkout out. Other than a tampon, which aren't particularly wide, nothing else has ventured there lol.

Never bought lube before..... New experiences everyday lol

Did you only try one fold? I don't like the U shape fold. That one is tough to get in.

I tried the punch down fold and I think it was the triangle one. I need to look them up again. I went for the ones that made the cup smaller. I don't like the look of the u or squiggly shaped one, they seemed quite wide.

Yeah, but that's for "routine" pelvic exams, no? I would think if you were having any sort of symptoms, you could get a pelvic prior to age 25. Not being able to insert a cup would be a symptom of a problem to me. What if you want to have sex before 25...wouldn't it be better to find out there's a physical problem prior to a romantic evening?

I was too. I thought it would take months and months for me to get the hang of it.

I suppose girls/women do go for exams once they become sexually active. I believe it is 25 or from age 21 if you are sexual active.

However doctors here seem to be very wary of giving exams to anyone who isn't yet sexually active. Im just going of my own few experiences and from comments ive read online about various things but i think pelvic exams for young women are far more common in America than they are here. They wouldn't do an internal ultrasound on me when I saw a doctor about problems with my periods. And when test results came back negative for thrush a few years ago, my female doctor wouldn't do an internal pelvic exam to try to find out what else it could be. These were my experiences with two different doctors on other sides of the country.

I have actually wondered whether it would be a good idea to go to the doctor and request one, just to get everything checked out generally. But I'm not entirely sure they would agree to do it. Maybe another UK poster on the boards who knows a lot more about these things could chime in?

Also, does anyone with an IUD use the Diva Cup?
I don't have an IUD but I am curious. I remember reading you can't use a menstrual cup and an IUD but it depends on the cup.

First-ever day with the cup (another update to my recent menstrual cup thread).......the full-on, first day of my period.

I put it in the night before because I didn't want to risk a struggle in the a.m. while trying to get us outta the house on time.

I could immediately tell that I got it in a LOT better than the previous insertion. A touch of lube around the rim made ALLLLL the difference in the world.

I made it almost to the end of the work day before I got a leak. I wore a full-sized pad as backup. Even when I sensed the leakage, I wasn't worried about a poor seal--I knew it was probably full.

It was VERY strange experience digging up there while my period was active.....yet amazingly it STILL wasn't the bloodbath I anticipated. In spite of my HEAVY first day, fingers only had a little blood on them. And there was only a little blood on the pad.

The cup had migrated so far up that I couldn't find the stem at all. Thank God the Lunette has a ridged stem because really.....

It came out easily once I found the stem and I was right--it was full to the top. I know it sounds crazy but it was an AMAZING sight.....I never saw the inner workings of my period before; the blood on tampons and pads just doesn't look like it does in the cup. I was like "wow!" Smh.....

I know now that Ill need to empty it at work during the heavy days but I'm terrified Ill mess up my clothes. I'm still extremely glad that I tried this and I credit this very informative and helpful thread. I just hate that I wasted money on my Mooncup bc I can't wear it at all.

Sinistral, I am so glad it is working out for you. Sometimes it can take a few cycles to get the hang of it.

Me too! I think it went well for a first-timer. And the leak didn't occur until about an hour before my shift ended.

So I'm thinking I should empty it after 4 hours at work on the first 1-2 days?.....the flow goes down a lot after that. Unfortunately, I get bowel issues during the first couple of days and I hate being down there (much less digging in my cooter) beyond necessity when that's going on. That made last night's removal more difficult for me.

I actually didn't mind getting up, getting dressed, and leaving the house on a 1st-Period-Day......yall don't know how significant this is, LOL!!!

If I could just get on the damn pill, my satisfaction would be complete.
