Women are so difficult.

Actually, you should look at my old thread again. Besides me, no one on this thread who thinks this joke isn't funny, thought it was funny before. I think you might need to go dig up another thread to make your point.

Wow. 4 pages, guys...
I'm "TechKnockout" now.
Yes, people are discussing what you wrote, and yes, it's currently four pages long. That's what happens on a message board. People discuss stuff that was posted.

Threads here spin out of control into tag-teamed rounds of spite all the time, but that hasn't happened (yet) in this one.

thank you for this history of the word stereotype Eilonwy. honestly i dont remember the word came with so much baggage back in the days(70-80) recently i think when it was used frequently with the words racial profiling that now its become an ugly word...know what i mean?

i think every body has a different sense of humor. some are more edgy than others. i use self-deprecating humor often. i dont think im perpetuating the asian male stereotype though b/c i im mocking myself more than anything. and if you cant laugh at yourself...

What I find most funny is that this has been posted several times before and seems to get different reactions each time. In this incarnation, pretty much everyone thought it was funny. Now, the OP is being accused of perpetuating gender stereotypes and next thing you know will be responsible for the current plight of women worldwide.

Perhaps it depends on who posts it?

Medussa - I wasn't trying to "catch you in a lie" or anything like that. We're all entitled to a change of heart. What I was trying to point out is that the exact same post has gotten opposite reactions here, where the only difference I see is the poster.

OK. I'll agree, it's been somewhat civil, but most of you are taking this whole thing out of context, which is why I find it all so funny. Of course you would argue, "See, that's just the thing! I'm NOT taking it out of context! It's a serious social dilemma involving stereotypes and negative connotations about women! It's for this reason, laughing it at is so awful and detrimental to the feminine societal standing! This represents all the women under glass ceilings, the reason women are portrayed a certain way in the media!" etc. etc. etc. more foaming at the mouth etc. etc. etc.

To this, I say: "IT'S A CHAIN LETTER!" LOL! Written by some anonymous dude trying to get a chuckle. That's all it is. No one takes it seriously, not even the dude who probably wrote it! It's not meant to be taken seriously, it's a joke! I'm not even taking it seriously, and I'm the OP! No one on this thread actually believes this stuff to the extent you guys are making it out to be. You guys are making it an issue when there is none.

Now, if this chain letter was some academic essay then yeah, I could understand all the fuss. But this article is so unimportant in the grand scheme of things, so trivial and subjective, you can only laugh at it. It's stupid, so laugh at it! Giving power to something this STUPID only reinforces why people write this stuff about the "crazy hormonal female" in the first place! It makes feminists look more ridiculous and crazy than they really are. And I consider myself a feminist. And a smart one at that. All of this "dissent" is border-lining the paranoia and oversensitivity.

Of course, if you want to make a mountain out of an anthill, go ahead. I'll continue to watch on in amusement with the others who thinks this whole thing is ridiculous. That's all I'm going to say about it. By all means, keep discussing.
I'm "TechKnockout" now.

And in all honesty, the title of the thread was meant to be sarcastic. I'm extremely tickled everyone is getting so bent out of shape about it.

I also think the difference in Medussa's thread and this is the presentation. This one was presented as a fact. "We never say what we mean. Why do we do this?" and women are difficult. That's a lot of crap in the first three sentences right there and won't leave many readers with good funny feelings.

In Medussa's thread I felt that you as the reader were left with you a choice as to whether this applied to you or not.

I know for a fact that some of the "dissenters" on this thread have disagreed with me in the past. Amneris, MichelleBFT and RCW, for sure. So I really don't think it's because they were concerned about hurting my feelings or think I'm anything special. Although I'd like to think so. Then I could pull out my Sally Field, "You all like me, you really, really like me."

See? Perspective is everything.

I didn't think the OP was funny. I barely skimmed it, it seemed like a time waster. Humor needs to be a tad more sophisticated than that to get a chuckle out of me. A random collection of unoriginal observations based on stereotypes ... yawn ...

When I get an email like that, I delete it without really reading it. And view with skepticism any further emails from the individual who sent it.

Note: I'm not angry. Unless woman + opinion = angry.

^^^ This equation is not as far-fetched as it sounds. A lot of people believe a woman with an opinion is, by default, a ****** and must have some anger issues or something.

Again, yawn ... I'm going to go get a cookie.

Are we done yet? Seriously...I know it was meant as a joke, but it wasn't funny. And it does seem like if a woman rolls her eyes and thinks something isn't funny, then she is considered angry. No, I can think silly, stupid humor is...well, not so funny to me...not really. I do require more thought into my humor.
But it is just a joke, I understand.
And to say that's why you don't hang around with women...I think that is hurtful. We are now seen as *****y and opinionated, right? We can't take a joke.
The reality is...some men are difficult, some women are difficult, and all of us can be difficult sometimes.
Some things are funny, and some just aren't.
I do find this kind of humor juvenile. I expect a teenager to laugh about this, but most of us have heard all this before and we are well rooted in our own identity that we don't have to go "see, look at those women acting this way...and men are jerks..."
To quote the kid on Kindergarten cop "Men have penises and women have vaginas." There, that was fun, now wasn't it?

Speak for yourself. I loathe those emails. "Look, all women are fussy and love shoes!!! Men subsist entirely on fishing, football, boobies and beer!!!"

Honestly, they're rarely funny and always exploit stereotypes. Boring.
