My pets are definitely cleaner and smell less than my son did as a baby.

I have to vacuum, mop, and sweep more often now but it's part of having pets. I'm not really sure if my house smells like I have pets or not. It is probably obvious to someone who doesn't have pets but certainly not a nasty, dirty smell. I clean regularly, spray Petbreeze, and use carpet fresheners.

Our litter box is covered and has a vent on top for an airfreshner. My son changes the litter box everyday if we have two cats inside or every other day if there's just one inside. Our puppy is not house broken, so I breakout the shampooer right after an accident happens (only twice so far) and don't let it settle in. We're going to be tearing out our carpet next year and putting down hardwood flooring but I still want to keep it clean and smelling as good as possible.

Sit down and write out a schedule for cleaning and stick to it.
.I do a detailed cleaning on Saturday and a midweek cleaning on Wednesday. It helps to break it up so it doesn’t become overwhelming
It isn't fun but just something that has to be done.

You are so right about having pets makes cleaning come with the territory. I use a swiffer just to catch those dust bunnies that pop up, but do a good vacuuming about twice a week. I would like to wash the floors using the Hoover floor cleaner once a week, but sometimes it just gets too be too much. BTW - your boxer is adorable. I love boxers.

Yes, your Boxer is adorable. But, I am a bit partial...

-Air purifier
-Making at least the bedrooms and bathrooms no pet zones.
-Vacuum the pet areas daily.
-Change litter boxes daily

How many pets do you have? What kinds? Are the Ferrets de-glanded or whatever you call it?
-Crack a window & get soem fresh air in there.

Get a Roomba and run it every day.

I have 1 cat and my boyfriend's dog is here almost every day. Its a must.

Letting fresh air into the house is a must. We occasionally leave the windows cracked open to get a good cross breeze going while we're at work. Winter + heat + windows shut = musty, animally smells.

Hey Speckla,
What kind of shampooer do you have? Is it one of those small handheld ones? The reason I'm asking is because my son and daughter-in-law are getting a puppy soon...probably in the next couple of months. The apt. they just moved to has mostly berber carpet with tile in the kitchen and bathrooms. I was thinking about getting a little shampooer for them when the "little one" arrives. They are soooo excited! I was talking to my son on the phone today (it's his birthday!) and he caught sight of his neighbor and her little yorkie outside for a potty break and all he could talk about was how cute he was! I thought it was so sweet...they're going to be such good doggie parents!

It's a Hoover SteamVac. It's over 25lbs and I can't carry it up and down the stairs. My husband always brings it up and down for me. I'm 5'1" and the handle comes up to my shoulders and it's a bit bulky. I know that sounds negative but I really do like it. It handles easy despite it's size and does a really good job. I've had it for 3 years and it's still chugging...err...steaming along!

I have two dogs, 3 cats, and 2 ferrets in the house. I have some cats that I keep on my backporch that were inside because of the cold weather, but they are back on the porch again. My ferrets are descented. I have found that it depends on what you feed them that makes them smell. They really don't smell too much.
