OK, this is my first glance into this 5 page thread, which I figured was one of those "topics gone wrong", but it's not, but still about bacon!

Which I love by the way. Indiana Kitchen brand is the best.

Love BLTs, breakfast bacon, a 24 hour salad w/cauliflower that tastes like BLT, a hot cheesy bacon dip, broccoli salad w/ bacon, and I put bacon pieces in my cheeseburgers.

mmmmm bacon

This thread made me go out and buy a couple packs of bacon. I threw a few slabs on the Foreman indoor grill and by looking at a full grease drip pan I can say that after I'm done with this batch I won't be buying bacon again anytime soon.

I wonder if this thread would be good with the EZ Cheese thread...?

me too.

I only looked because I'm nosey. I love the smell of bacon but can't stand the taste of it.

I'll admit I was also lured in by the several pages of this thread.
I like bacon and eat it about once a week but I agree, I think it's one of those foods that smells SO much better than it tastes.

Angry

I tried to stay away from this thread.....................I knew this would happen.......................now I'll have to go out for lunch to find a BLT!

thanks everyone. esp you, xcptnl for starting this thread. Bad hair-twin! j/k

I love bacon too, although I try not to eat it often -- I have super high cholesterol due to heredity, and I get migraines from the nitrates/nitrites. Must find some 'trate-free bacon!!!!!!!! Is it available at grocery stores?

and I like it the way rainshower described the perfect bacon!

Yeah, I've bought Whole Foods own 365 brand, and it tasted like regular bacon but without the nitrates/-ites. Higher, but not that much - 12 oz. for about the same price as a pound. Trader Joe's and other such stores probably have it, too. Seems like maybe I remember that Smithfield bacon doesn't have them, either. If so, Ingle's in the Southeast carries it, probably others.

I'm in CA and we don't have any WF or anything like it here. Weird huh? But we do have a TJs now, I'll have to check. I'll check at the groc store too. Thanks!

So I had a turkey bacon sandwich for lunch, only 2 measly strips of bacon.

Slight Guano...

I cooked up the sliced ham I bought, sweet mother of god it was to die for. It was so thin, thinner than the bacon actually, and so tender. I did hot ham and cheese sandwiches on rye, I swear I saw a tear in my husband's eye as he was eating. Of course it could have been from the pepper jack cheese on his sandwich.

end of guano

Tomorrow I'm getting out the cast iron dutch oven and cooking up a batch of green beans or snap beans whatever they are called in your neck of the woods, with bacon ends. Of course a dollop of lard so nothing sticks. Hell I think I'll go down now and grab a chicken to defrost overnight and just go the whole nine yards. Fresh farm raised, home butchered, free range, fried chicken with green beans and bacon slices. Thank god none of us have cholesterol problems, DH has a bad heart but I'll kill him with kindness. This is a rare meal since it takes forever to do a chicken right and make gravy to boot.

I do too! But I do not like maple flavored bacon. Maybe it's because I only like real maple syrup and a lot of maple flavored stuff is not that great.

Also try your local health food store.

Like you, I had turkey bacon for lunch. Unlike you, I had 5 strips (with 2 eggs over-medium) and I was not well. The nitrates gave me a migraine for part of the day AND I had heartburn way into the evening. On the plus side, I didn't get hungry for dinner at all. Protein can sit in your stomach for hours, it seems.
