Bacon

I love bacon. Just had to share. LOVE IT!

RedCatWaves 01-22-2009 08:40 AM

Probably the single best food in the world.

Burgess Meredith in Grumpy Old Men had it right...

Quote:

Last Thursday, I turned 95 years old. And I never exercised a day in my life. Every morning, I wake up, and I smoke a cigarette. And then I eat five strips of bacon. And for lunch, I eat a bacon sandwich. And for a midday snack?
Bacon.
Bacon! A whole damn plate! And I usually drink my dinner. Now according to all of them flat-belly experts, I should've took a dirt nap like thirty years ago. But each year comes and goes, and I'm still here. Ha! And they keep dyin'.

My favorite food group. Even better in chocolate.

Suburbanbushbabe 01-22-2009 09:47 AM

I'm weird. I love turkey bacon better than regular bacon (even the Irish kind) but only from Trader Joes or Whole Foods

Heh. Brings to mind this thread:

Boomygrrl 01-22-2009 10:24 AM

I love bacon!!!
Oh, it's definitely better than chocolate!
Turkey bacon?!? Blasphemy!!

sarah42 01-22-2009 12:15 PM

Mmmm, bacon. Love it. If I ever became a vegetarian, I would miss it. And I don't really even eat bacon that frequently, but I always know it's there when I need it, like a familiar friend.

Oriental Curl 01-22-2009 12:30 PM

:crybaby:I miss bacon! I nearly died of a heart attack (no pun intended, I promise) when I saw the price of it here not long after I moved to Denmark. It's crazy! That and bread (go figure) are two things that are 3 times the price they are at home, even taking into account the higher cost of living here. So sad.

Boomygrrl 01-22-2009 12:34 PM

I don't care if it's 10 times the cost, you gotta have some bacon every once in a while.

SarcasmIsBeauty 01-22-2009 01:07 PM

MMMM bacon...

There's nothing better than a chicken bacon ranch sandwich, I mean really what's a sandwich with out bacon?!

LisaF1163 01-22-2009 01:48 PM

Ohhhh, bacon, my love. Every Sunday, my boyfriend and I go out to breakfast, and we're very big diner people. We both almost always get bacon with our breakfasts, but the best part? I always ask them to cook mine a little soft so I can have the fattier parts, because what's even better than bacon? Slightly fattier bacon. Which grosses out my boyfriend (who always gets his crispy), and he can practically live off of bacon if you gave him half the chance. I've out-baconed the bacon king.

AND - I just looked up bacon on the Weight Watchers points tracking system, and three yummy slices are only four points! I thought it would be something outlandish, like 15 points - which it is, but only when you add cheeseburgers to it.

WurlyLox 01-22-2009 01:57 PM

:love5:
Ah, bacon! It's ruined many a good intention for me . . . . Even when I just smell it, I'm like that dog on the Beggin' Strips commercial

I don't dislike turkey bacon, but my taste buds DO NOT believe it's the real thing. Sometimes they just must appeased!

Bacon is a very powerful thing. Most anything is better than bacon. When my husband and I are looking for a quickie dinner and we're not concerned about how wicked awful it is for us, we make mac and cheese (the kind from a box with powdered cheese-- I don't care what anyone says, that stuff is farking delicious) and crumble up pre-cooked bacon into it.

Salads? Bacon.

Sammiches? Bacon.

I love bacon.

Guide18 01-22-2009 02:25 PM

I usually don't eat bacon, but I make an exception when we're in the Adirondacks and pick some up at Oscar's Smokehouse. It's the real deal.

scrills 01-22-2009 02:29 PM

I had some bacon today.

My trick is that I bake my bacon. People think I'm crazy still they try it. Cooks faster and it's much crispier

RedCatWaves 01-22-2009 02:34 PM

Bacon has gotten a bum rap. People talk about it like it's poison. It's just meat. It's no worse for you than a piece of chicken...which isn't bad at all. Humans require protein and meat is a good source of protein. Long live the bacon.

OBB 01-22-2009 02:35 PM

from the sound of it if i came up with a chocolate covered bacon combo it would sell like hot cakes.

MoppyT 01-22-2009 04:39 PM

Vosges (a fancy shmancy chocolate shop) sells chocolate covered bacon. Or maybe it's chocolate with bacon just in it. I don't know. Either way, yikes.

I recently had a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich with bacon. It was on this lovely brioche. And they drizzled it with wildflower honey, for the love of dog. While I ate it, I forgot all other food.

In Puerto Vallarta, I noticed lots of little stands in the streets that were selling bacon-wrapped hot dogs.

Bacon freaking rules. I wish I had some right now.
