I just ran across an article from the chicago tribune "Many teens blame Rihanna, say dating violence normal"

It's pretty sad what some of these kids have to say

These kids need some good role models in their life, its disheartening to see that they think 1.Rihanna deserved it and 2. It's normal to be in an abusive relationship. People shouldn't just accept this as a norm, these kids need some real guidance because the way I see it things will not end well for them in the long run.

That is so disturbing, that kids think this is normal. I can't remember ever thinking that was normal or appropriate. Least of all funny.

Kids seem to think oral sex is like kissing too. I don't know if they're minimizing these more or if they're less educated than before, or what...

I was disturbed by that too. I called up my friend (who is my age btw and I am 20) and while talking about Rihanna she actually started laughing. "Dude, I wonder what she did to piss him off like that! Hahaha!" My reaction: ??? Huh???

I think that violence is such a big part of movies/TV that when a celebrity (and I think it has more to do with her being celebrity than anything else) goes through something like this, it is seen as a joke. It's easier to laugh at because she's a celebrity...not a "real" person. It's all part of the TV/movie personality.

If it had been a real person, a friend of these kids, I doubt they would've been laughing.

Yelp...remember that show Oprah did a while back...teen girls were having anal sex rather than vaginal sex so that they would still be technical "virgins". I'm only 29 and soooo not a prude, but I remember thinking in HS that anal sex was sorta the "final frontier". It was amazing to hear thier thoughts on it though...and they honest to god thought they were still virgins because they couldn't get preggers. BUT, several of them had been treated for STDs....go figure.

Well, not quite like kissing, it's more like the general consensus is that it's the "next step up." Like my friend will talk about hooking up with some guy and just say "the BJ was blah blah" like there's just supposed to be one.

And on the technical virginity thing, it's like a friend of mine who did some very "adult" stuff for her kinda-boyfriend but would never have sex with him until the 6 month mark or something, which they never reached. I just kinda did the phone version of nodding along when she told me about stuff - I don't get the point. If you're going to have some kind of sex, why should only he have the fun? I'm not even going to get into how disgusted I am that girls feel they have to do soooo much just to preserve their hymens while boys can go and do whatever and not feel like they've committed some kind of crime - that is for another thread.

From what i've heard...its not 100% confirmed if that is the case...but if it is...i'm sure that will come out at the trail (if there is one).

But....I'm gonna keep it 100% real....if a bytch gives me Herpes (or any STD for that matter)...f)ck beating they ass....all I need is ONE BULLET. Lucky for me...I'm a tad bit smarter than a horny teenager (which is basicly what they are) and before I do the horizontal tango...i need a clean bill of heath from my partner.
