Lent...
What are your plans?
I was thinking about abstaining for 40 days...
Code:
meat, folks..just the meat...

Did this years ago...I am really wanting to focus on some major goals for myself...
What about you?

For the past few years, I have abstained from NC.com. I may have to expand to a few more sites this year, because it all takes up way too much of my time.
No one ever notices when I'm gone.

I thought I knew, but I'm still thinking. I'm definitely giving up flavored beverages, but that's more for weight loss purposes than any thing. I lost 15 lbs last Lent from that. I'm also adding something, probably doing the LOH every day (and on time).
My whole family is participating this year, even the lapsed and non-Catholics. We created a blog to talk about it. Should be interesting.

Crap, I haven't been paying attention to the calendar and I skipped church this weekend, that'll teach me! I have no idea what I am doing for Lent. I would like to say that I would be more community oriented, but I am trying to get this stupid thesis written so I can get done with it and as such, my weekends are spent doing research. I think I will pick an easy one and say no fast food.

I guess giving up no fattening or bad-for-me food, which to me is translating into "sticking to your Weight Watchers points." I haven't been too devoted lately, let's just say.

I like to GIVE instead,so I am hoping to volunteer or something.

What's LOH?
I'm just happy I remembered to schedule a non-meat Demo at work Wednesday. I know about the no-meat Fridays, but I had some belligerent Catholic customers last year on Ash Wednesday because I was Demoing a meat dish.
I had an Episcopalian upbringing and I still like to "do Lent" from that perspective sometimes for the spiritual focus. I don't feel the call to it this year though.

That's hilarious! I guess they had meatless-induced grumpiness.
LOH = Liturgy of the Hours, also known as the Divine Office
It's a liturgical set of prayers and/or readings done throughout the day at set times. Sort of like how Muslims pray 5x a day or Jews have obligatory prayers. The LOH is mandatory for people who've taken religious orders, but some lay people do it too. It's nice to take a break from your crazy day to meditate/pray.
Here's some more about it:

Thank you! I think it's kind of neat to take that time out of your (gy) day to recharge like that.

Ugh, haven't decided yet. Maybe sodas. I usually give up two things, because I still eat meat (turkey) on Fridays. I detest fish.

I'm still thinking. I just realized tomorrow is Fat Tuesday. I definitely want to release something to create a vacuum.

I'm still trying to figure it out. I usually give up meat or drinking, but since I'm going to Europe next month that won't work.
perhaps I should give up swearing....
