Default How long did it take you to get pregnant?

My hubby and I have been trying since I went off the pill in June. I'm starting to wonder if there is something "wrong" or if it's normal or what. Since going off the pill my periods have been more like 6 weeks apart rather than 4ish. Does that mean I'm ovulating later than the normal day 12-18 a woman would normally ovulate with a regular cycle?

When do we start worrying/get checked out?

Have you read Taking Chrage of Your Fertility? I think there's a website, too.

Nope, never heard of it! I haven't done a lot of research on the topic..I'm not one for reading a lot of books etc before starting something. I'm thinking maybe I should now though.

I second reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

I charted and got pg on the first try twice. Even though I had 28-30 day cycles, I ovulated around day 17 or 18, and had a short luteal phase. I would never had know that if I wasn't charting. I would have been having sex too early going by the standard O on day 14.

It's all in the timing (assuming nothing is wrong of course).

I got pregnant right away after going off of the pill (literally 3 weeks later). I read the Taking Charge...book during that three weeks, and started charting my cycles, and ended up pregnant. So, I didn't really know what my cycle length was, other than I didn't ovulate until CD21.

After he was born, I charted again...and I found that I didn't ovulate most of the time until CD21 or later, resulting in longer cycles, my longest was around 45 days, I think. It's just what was normal for me. With baby number two, it took us two cycles, but I was sick during the first cycle, so no nookie during ovulation. But I was also charting, so I knew when ovulation was, etc.

I recommend reading the book, and checking out their site...it used to be called ovusoft.com, not sure if it still is.

Another recommendation for the book! Its really important to know how your own cycle works if you are trying to get pregnant.

My first was conceived in the first month. With my second, it took about 6 months, but I have really long cycles so it was the 4th cycle.

Hmm...I think it was like a stomach flu or something, I don't specifically remember.

+1 on the book.
I also have late ovulation and a short luteal phase, which I never would have known without the book. Got pregnant within about 3 cycles both times.

We got pregnant the first month after I went off the pill.

We had gone to my OB beforehand for pre-conception counseling. He said to come back for fertility testing, etc. if we didn't get pregnant in six months (if you're over 35) or one year (under 35).

Good luck (and have fun)!

It took my parents 13 years. My mom's sister, 10. Their mom had 11 kids. Go figure...

It took me 3 years with my son. I had endometriosis and needed surgery. After the surgery it took me 2 cycles to get pregnant.

With my 2nd child it took me 3 months.

You do really need to know when your cycle is. I ovulate early like between CD9-11. I wouldn't wait to talk to your doctor. Go on in and make sure nothing weird is going on. He or she will also do some testing to make sure you are immune to everything (MMR, chicken pox etc). Good Luck!!!

If you've been trying since June, it's probably time to do something about it. See your doctor for a checkup, and possibly an infertility work-up, and also get the book recommended above, which will really help you pinpoint ovulation.

Also, be sure you're having enough sex. Every day is not too often, but do it at least every-other-day. All through the cycle.

I got pregnant on the first try with my first 3. With my 4th, I was still breastfeeding the 3rd, and didn't get pregnant til she weaned. I got pregnant on the first cycle after weaning.

18 months with #1. 9 months after weaning for #2. 11 months after weaning for #3.

I am the anti-RCW.

With #1 we tried Clomid (including internal ultrasounds) for a while but I didn't like it, and got pregnant 5 months after getting off it.

I am. Those last 2 babies were at ages 35 and 38 too. That's why the old man is neutered.

Now that I no longer need the uber-fertility, I wish I could pass it along to someone who would appreciate it more than me.

Could have said this. Took me about 18 months with both. But we weren't charting or doing anything special just having a lot of fun.

According to the book there are several things you can do on your own or problems you can identify that could possible save you a lot of the big stuff. Always best to try the less evasive stuff first.

One time unprotected sex - two weeks after stopping the pill. It wasn't on purpose. I thought I was ok because I heard it took a while for fertility to return. Yeah, right.
